  • 1993 Preliminary Final - we had it won, but still managed to find a way to lose it
  • 1996 Season - We had the team to go top, but a string of injuries just kept holding us back, fortunately someone came along and sorted it out the following year
  • 2002 Preliminary Final - it all just fell apart, always thought we would have beaten Brisbane that year too
  • 2003 Semi Final - We lost one that we should of won and they went on to win it
  • 2005 Preliminary Final - went asleep after half time and never recovered against a team we beat away 3 weeks earlier
  • 2012 Preliminary Final - so close
  • Shaun Rehn's Slip on the centre mat
  • Matthew Robran's broken leg (you could just see how much pain he was in)
  • Andrew Jarman being delisted, the next year after he was robbed of the B&F by Matthew Connell

Thanks for the depression - geez ya know how to spoil my afternoon.:D
Tarrants goal, Fevs goal, Buddys goal, all gutted me.

That game against the Kangaroos in the late 90's where we lost due to a dodgy HTB decision
Watching Rehn and Modra playing for other clubs.
Fitzy's knee
2002 PF
2005 QF - choked against the Saints.
Hentschel's knee
Ricciuto's last game - got injured and went out without a whimper.
Three quarter time of the 2009 SF. I knew we'd blown it.
Edwards' and McLeod's retirement
Last year's QF - hurt far worse than the prelim

Threw away many games last decade. Our fault for choking in so many of those games. 2009 semi final, Round 7 2003, 2007 EF, etc. Choked in 1993 PF against Essendon. The 2003 and 2007 seasons were pure frustration.

But the worst was Last year's preliminary final. Tried our guts out, fought so hard and knowing the outcome of this game would be make or break the team giving the history of us dropping back the following year. If only there was an extra minute to go ..... sucks big time!

All prelims especially last yr, any lost prelim is a massive opportunity missed.

For sure. Never won the flag the year after a preliminary final loss. We have had many chances and we might not get this chance again for a long time now. Time is running out.

My worst would have to be after the 09 semi to Collingwood, I remember actually crying after that game I was so shattered, especially after we smashed Essendon in the first week and looked to be on fire early in the match.

05/06 preliminaries are right up there too, those years are the very definition of ones that got away, we had the wood over Sydney in a huge way back then and would have been a huge chance in the GF had we made it.

I have 3.

Mods in 97 (both when it happened and seeing him on the sideline in the GF.) He was the reason i loved the Crows so much, i started watching footy in 93 and he was my favourite instantly and ever since. Just broke my heart seeing him miss the flag.

Buddy ******* Franklin in 2007. When Torney kicked that goal i thought we had it, a right footer from that angle and distance, it must be our day. But then the true Crow spirit kicked in.

Jack ******* Anthony in 2009. I really thought 2009 could've been our year. We were flying. Everyone was firing on all cylinders and we were a legit powerhouse of the comp. Also it was the first year in quite a few where i was able to actually watch every game that year (thanks to finishing study, and cutting a few other commitments), so i felt even more attached to the team than i had in a while.
I went to a party that night, but they had it on the big screen. We headed to the party at half time, thinking this is all good. When we arrived and got settled Collingwood had already started pegging it back. I thought, "Shit." After a little while Cloke kicked that goal to put them in front, at that point i still had an ounce of hope. Then Brad ******* Dick kicked the goal to go 2 up. That's when i thought, "Actually no, this game is done." Cut to Tippo's final goal to put us a point up, everyone in the room cheered. Not me. I knew we'd screw it up some how. That one hurt bad, took me months to get over that.

****, these threads always get me thinking about the worst of times... Still sick in the guts from;

2006 - Hentschel's knee was the worst thing ever, **** YOU MATT THOMAS YOU MUTT! Follow that up with Ricciuto's Parvo Virus, and Bigland's knee in the QF. To top it all off, a choke in the Prelim. My hatred for West Coast still flows to this day. **** Adam Hunter, **** Ashley Hansen, **** Cousins, **** Judd, **** EVERYTHING.

2007 - Kris Massie special. Oh boy, what a dog of a day... Ricciuto deserved a better send-off than that. Another choke in three successive seasons? Dafuq?

2009 - A no-name, shiny bald headed dud in Jack Anthony ruined my night... WE HAD THE GAME WON! TIPPETT WAS THE HERO! Next thing you know, free against...

2012 - Season was superb, finishing second and ended up a kick short of getting into the Big Dance... ****, I wasn't say, mad or angry, but more devastated we came up so short, after being the better team on the day.

2013 - Tex does the knee... My joy only a few minutes earlier, seeing Tex about to get his mojo back, and next thing you know, our hero does his knee... Felt so ****ing down for the rest of the game. Our pathetic effort for three quarters didn't help ease the ****ing pain either!

Well, I let out my frustration through words here, but these horrors are still making me sick to the stomach...

C'MON LADY LUCK, GIVE US SOME!

Saturday morning (London Time), was the straw the broke the camels back for me and is why I have finally decided to make an account. I've honestly come to the conclusion that this club is being forced to pay the ultimate price, for its next flag.

2006: I was there and around 18 at the time, full of hope the entire year. At half time I was convinced I would be seeing us in our 3rd GF and was completely empty at the end of that game.

2006: Henstchels injury, I will never forget it and I will never forgive Matt Thomas. The fact he nearly did the same several years later, on Nathan Basset.....

2007: Seeing Ricciutio trudge of the ground head down, as Hawthorn celebrated in the background, was a massive slap in the face.

2009: What else needs to be said, Otten marks it - you think we are through and then..... Forehead kicks the last important goal of his career.

2012: We were the better team that day and deserved to win, at which point I am convinced we would have gone on to beat Sydney.

2013: I've been following him since there were reports a kid from Broken Hill, looked like he was going to be really special. That was back in 06/07 and remember posters putting up videos of Taylor here, at which point I was convinced. He is one of the most technically beautiful AFL players playing the game, I don't care what anybody says, but pure ability - he is in the top 3. What happened to him on the weekend has really left me speechless and questioning what else we have to do, to get a flag....

Put it this way, when we do win our next flag, I will run onto the MCG nude - please bookmark this post and think of me as I get carted away into the security pen.

It has to be said, this is a really shit thread. Are we trying to make posters suicidal?

Good thread for opposition fans though.

Too right. Remembering 05/06, 09 and last year just makes me depressed :-(

****, it sure would be something if we could muster a win against hawthorn this week. Who knows, maybe tex's injury will give the guys the anger back.

Some from the early days:
  • missing out on SANFL stars Darren Jarman and Gavin Wanganeen for the inaugural squad to Victorian clubs
  • the 1993 Prelim loss. 42 points up at half-time and in complete control. How the hell did we lose that game.
  • Rehn doing his knee for the first time on the members wing at Footy Park in '95. Was the reiging B/F and emerging superstar of the competition. Never as good again.
And the attacking, exciting coaching tenures of SA football legends Cornes and Blight being followed, respectively, by the dour, defensive Victorian appointments Robert Shaw and Gary Ayres.

I was forced to turn off my TV in 2009 and leave the room in case I had to buy a new TV. Who the **** is Jack Anthony?! Ugh.

As soon as that free was paid I turned off the TV and broke the remote. Stormed out of the room furious. It was a very bad night and we can take full responsibility of the blame for that loss. We couldn't put the game away in the 2nd quarter and simply packed it in and quit in the 3rd quarter. Absolutely dominated this game.

Most years we experience heartbreak of some sort, mostly in the finals.

What saddens me is that when I saw this thread there were numerous moments that popped into my head, but I'd actually have to sit down and think if this thread was titled "favourite AFC moments of elation"
:(

Probably Hentschel & Rehn knee's. Also when Ben heart was delisted, was my favorite player growing up, although in hindsight it was probably the right decision.

The 2003 season was a disaster. Lost that game to Collingwood Tarrant after the siren and I always believed that game was the turning point for the decade full of failures. And to make things worse sat in 2nd spot and then lost the last 3 games of the home and away to finish 6th = and there was not much to cheer about in the Finals, an unconvincing win over West Coast at home and a then a loss to Brisbane at the Gabba. Having won 1 more game Adelaide would have played Port in the Qualifying Final and surely would have been a chance to win that game to earn a home preliminary final. Lost 4 or 5 games by less than a kick and only managed to win once by a small margain.

The 2007 season was heartbreaking from start to finish. After that agonizing 06 preliminary final loss, the team struggled with confidence and totally underperformed that year. A few good wins but some pretty disappointing losses too, never got beaten by any more than 5 goals. Lost 5 games by less than 10 points from memory.

Another heartbreaking moment was the end of the 2008 season, during the regular season Adelaide started the year at 8-3 but suffered a 4 point loss to Hawthorn in the middle of the year in a game they threw away in the 4th quarter and lost 5 in a row during a time Brett Burton went down with that knee. They recovered late and had 4th spot pretty much sealed but St Kilda smash Essendon by over 100 points in the final home and away game to knock Adelaide out of the top 4. Adelaide instead of finishing 4th are now forced to play a home elimination final vs Collingwood, a team they struggle to beat at home. What a disaster.

the day we sold our soul for a scumbag basketballer; and the day we didn't trade him to Brisbane or GC

the day we sold our soul for a scumbag basketballer; and the day we didn't trade him to Brisbane or GC

I'm sure that scumbag is happy Tex went down. Hopefully he will lose a GF this year, that will make us happy. No premiership for you Kurt!

the day we sold our soul for a scumbag basketballer; and the day we didn't trade him to Brisbane or GC
Yeah in hindsight the decision not to trade has got to be the biggest WTF moment. I'd be curious to know who decided against the deal weren't they offering pick 8 and 24 or something along those lines.

2012 Prelim, so close to winning with god awful umpiring not aiding us and Hawk supporters being very arrogant saying we were gonna get smashed by 100 points. We deserved to win and was the better team.

Agree, 2012 prelim is my worst without a shadow of a doubt. The combination of being written off by the media, being laughed at all week at work, the horrendous umpiring, the dying few seconds and bad memories from the G in 2009. I still get the same sick feeling looking at the dodgy umpiring decision youtube video, or the last 5 minutes of the game. Just horrible, we really deserved to win that one.

Beyond that:
  • 1997 prelim - Modra's injury and missing the GF. Tex is almost on par with this one for me, I loved Mods and he is the reason I follow the Crows! I was equally devastated when he was traded to Freo, such a terrible way to treat a club legend.
  • 2009 semi final v Collingwood. Otten mark, free kick, Anthony. Game over.
