Again the significance of this new info depends entirely on the context which (surprise surprise) has not been provided. What if we had seen this document and done the correct thing, spoken to ASADA and got the all clear from them? If we did get the OK to use AOD from ASADA it overrides pretty much any other information we have.

Also lol at the inclusion of HGH with the correct context removed. Almost as if the want to make us look like drug cheats.:rolleyes:

On another note, both West Coast and Collingwood have performed well below what was expected of them this year; I wonder if a key part of their training regime was hastily removed one fine day in February?

Whilst the age article is full of weasel words it's still a worry to me that documentation such as they claim could have been in club hands last year. If it was then heads have to roll.

A few thoughts:
  • Even if the club had it in 2012, that doesn't necessarily mean they had it before they started using AOD
  • As usual, the article doesn't provide all of the important details - who exactly had this document ? when did they receive it ? did any 'senior club officials' even see this document ? etc.
  • "If AOD [anti-obesity drug AOD9604] was legal/more easily obtainable, users advise they would use AOD more often" sounds to me like an issue with users only legally being able to source it from a compounding chemist rather than a comment on WADA 'legality'
  • I'm not sure whose heads are left to roll, other than of course the usual suspects Hird and Bomber (who must be held accountable for everything that happens at Essendon)

Never thought I'd say this but I think Hirdy maybe delusional the best thing for him to do now is to step down atleast for the time being till this is all over

I think it's important he stays. It sends a strong message to the players, members, supporters and the public that success is a hard fought battle on and off the field.

Agree with the first two points. The weasel words around "was in possession of a serving 2012 official" were very vague.That could mean Dank had it. Who knows if he showed it to anyone.
Not sure if point three is relevant, if we used it without advice from Asada than I think there'll be trouble.

As to who's head, aside from the obvious press answer (ie EVERYONE!! NOW!!), anyone who saw it and ignored it. As someone else pointed out it could have prompted the club to contact Asada, but until the report comes out it's all just speculation.

"to reduce body fat" - this has already been knocked on the head by Calzada themselves in 2007.
Adelaide Uni study (which ASADA consulted) also said it had no anti-obesity properties.

Also when were these docs seized by ASADA? If you read on they seem to have been seized a while ago.

It almost doesn't matter what it's properties are.

Whether it was legal or not - thats the question.

The risk with the idea behind if you saw it and ignored it you must go is that it eventually leads to people wanting to not know about stuff that might be 'inconvenient': "don't show me that, I'm better off not knowing, that way I can deny I knew about it". It makes managers in particular less interested in seeking out potential bad news - they're better off with deniability.

Putting that to one side, I'm not sure there's much of a smoking gun in that document anyway. IMO the provocative article title and the clear implication that Essendon were told AOD-9604 was WADA-prohibited are not backed up by the quotes in the article.
 
in all seriousness..i feel for any club that is under the microscope like the Bombers..the bloody media always turns everything into a farce....everything is sold to the public out of context.
I hope the Bombers come through stronger, like WCE did post the Cuz situation. All the best from an AFL fan. The comp is better for having Essendon involved.

What muddies the waters is the multiple meanings of 'legal' here - 'legal' in terms of Australian government law (e.g. in terms of the requirement for a compounding chemist to make it up) versus 'legal' in terms of the WADA code.

I think you mean whether or not the body you are supposed to call for advice on drugs in sport told us it was legal. Possibly two different things.

Funny of the day?

A St Kilda player has returned an 'abnormal' test result. This means the B Sample will be tested and if the 'abnormal' result is replicated then ASADA will issue an infraction notice.

This is a REAL case of potential drugs in sport. Not bad governance, no illegal drug dungeons..

I'm not saying it was deliberate or that it has been proven.. but ffs it gets LESS words written about a postive test than about a stupid document from some unknown gym that talks about the hypothetical benefits or a stupid drug that has already been shown to be a in a grey zone of the code.

This shows just how farked this whole thing has become. So Caro shows restraint.. puts in the disclaimers that nothing has been proven BUT STILL finds a way to link it to the EFC investigation.. jesus!!

In headlines today.. player tests positive for banned substance and in other news Hird is responsible for declining literacy standards in Australian schools. Schools have been struggling to keep up with....
 
You have to be pretty dumb to be caught out with a blood test these days with all those peptides that vanish within hours.
