How do you rate Shepard as a coach .
To be honest from what I've seen he has struggled with the way he approaches his roll .
I understand Fremantle has positions they want players to be played in and with so many injuries so far this season he has had problems trying to win games with depleted numbers and not a great deal of Peel players from past seasons available but I'm more concerned with how he communicates with the players and how he doesn't move players who are being beaten on the day .

I notice also the reserves aren't doing well so pressure for positions in the league team aren't what he would want as well .
It makes it a hard ask for a coach to drop players that are under performing because the Ressies are no better than the guys already there .
I listened to him being interviewed on Sports Radio last week and he stated that the Club was happy with how they are going and "we are building a strong culture " but from siting in the stands and being out on the ground when he was addressing the players I wasn't inspired by him and I don't think the players are getting any" Pearls of Wisdom" from him either .
How would you rate him or for that mater if there is anyone on our board that knows him ,I'm interested in your point of view .

It's great to see a young guy take up the challenge and do everything in his power to be knocking on the door for selection .

It constantly amazes me that a guy like Sylvia seams to think that he can come to a new club and be an automatic selection where the kids accept the challenge ,put their heads down ,work their butts off without expecting any favours and are prepared to be overlooked till the coaches are prepared to give them a game or two in their first season knowing its par for the coarse .

Sylvia if he's not careful is going to be overtaken by Ballard and it will be his own attitude that lets him down .

In the short conversation I had with him during his suspension he was disappointed with himself but I think the club will be running out of patience with him soon and his AFL career could be over before he knows it if there isn't a vast improvement in his output .
I'm hoping Sylvia is still building. It's still early in the season and he obviously needs more game time after being out for the last two. He could still be a very good weopon to have up our sleeve. Don't write him off yet by any means. He is a proven AFL player. Just saying wait and see before...

I rate Cam Shepherd the same way that I rank Brad Sheppard.

I think Marc Webb or Simon Eastaugh should take over effective immediately.

Anyway, Sylvia was great by foot yesterday, but his handballs never hit their target.

To me we got another She-rod Wellingham here, however we didn't give up pick 17 to get him and he isn't on $465,000 a year.

He is great at reading the play and has good pace and uses his body well, there was a lot to like about Sylvia yesterday.

But at the end of the day he didn't do enough to push his way into the side. Brendon Jones and Matty Brown do more than just about anyone in the Peel side, and they aren't on our list.

Ibbo and Kepler are ready to come into the side as they both had good games. Griff is getting there and only a couple of games off and Josh Simpson was very good in patches.

Matt Taberner and Tommy Sherdian were okay, but not that great.

Great 3rd quarter by Peel.

Where would you play Simpson in the league team ,I suggested that he be groomed for Walters FP but it might take quite some time to get him up to it .

I agree with you on Simon Eastaugh , when I was sitting on the bench at the Swans game he was taking to the players and giving good guidance to when ever they were interchanged and before they went back on .
The instructions to the followers were spot on . He also has a very good relationship with the group he talks to at the quarter time breaks . When the time comes he could be a very good senior coach IMHO .

I actually think he'd be way better running off of half back. He's got phenomenal agility and lateral movement, speed and a very accurate kick. I'd like to see him running the ball out of the back fifty and delivering it to our half forwards and full forwards lace out.

I thought we got Sylvia for around $300,000 but Karl Langdon was banging on about him being paid $600,000!!

I agree with you but Steven Hill when fit fills that "ROLE "as well as Duffield ,Ibbotson and Clancee so he would struggle to get a games .

Duff isn't getting any younger and Ibbotson plays more a hybrid 3rd tall/intercept marker role. Honestly, I haven't been that impressed with Sutcliffe this year. I'd imagine Simpson could eventually squeeze him out at least of the backline. Hill does go between Wing and HB with some time as an inside mid. As Simpson grows over next couple of seasons, he could potentially interchange with Hill between, Wing/Mid and HB.

At this stage I would play Simpson as the sub for a few games at least. He is a burst player with great speed and ball skills. He is almost impossible to tag too.

I can't believe that he was given a 50m penalty for smothering that kick off the boot of Cale Morton on Saturday.

Kenny just about threw his hot dog at the umpire when that happened.

Pretty hard to dominate AFL when you don't get a game.

He kicked 2 goals in his first game this year. Then was dropped 1 game later.
I hope Taberner doesnt turn out like another Ryan Murphy who dominates WAFL but offers very little in the AFL team.

He is a developing tall in his second year. The 2 goals he scored were against a team with 1 key defender.

Bottom line is he was brought in to replace Mayne and he kept his spot when Mayne was brought back in. Ross maybe shouldn't have brought Mayne back in for the Sydney game but we can't structure up with 3 talls and Mayne so unless Taberner was going to push out Clarke or Pavlich he was going to be dropped.

I think I'd like those attributes in our forward half to be honest. Still don't have too many fellas able to nail a pass into our forward 50. PearceD had something like 7 inside 50s against the Slime... from memory I don't think the majority went to advantage. He doesn't tend to have as much of a problem in our back half, but his radar seems to go a bit skewiff kicking longer forward-of-centre.

If Simmo had 7 inside 50s I reckon he'd have done more damage than Pearce, who has been really good pressuring, winning the ball, running and disposing of the ball through the midfield.

I'm tempted to change my stance on where he's best played now. Hard not to agree with that post. Can we clone him? Then we can have a Simpson in both the back and forward half.

Lovely thought. Another option is to work like hell to draft his good friend and fellow speedster Jarrod Pickett at the end of the year... but the odds of him sliding to our first pick are slim to bugger-all frankly. :(

That is the lot of other young players at Freo. It is not just him.
It is hard to break in and consolidate. Probably better for them in the long run anyway.

We should be looking at what Hawthorn and Geelong have done. Their players seem to do a 3-4 year apprenticeship in the VFL before they get regular games.
