Harsh. One of the few tolerable footy pundits around at the moment.
He really is. I like Dunstall as a commentator. He is also very fair and reasonable when analysing the game.

Perhaps, but then he wouldn't have a need to hit anyone because they wouldn't be hanging on or chopping his arms and how good would those 4 games be to watch.

What a stupid postDunstall. Was captain for four years which tells me he was a leader.
Based on pure playing exploits it's splitting hairs.
The impact of a single player is very overrated in footy - I can't think of a single sport where any one man has less influence.
If you're a leader that makes multiple players better however, the ultimate influence can be enormous.
Settle down.What a stupid post
big difference, locket played in shit sides most of his career, lower quality midfield supplying the ball lessDunstall. Machine.
Lead out. Chest mark. Kick a goal. Kick a goal. Kick a kick a goal.
On field and off field a better player.
One of the few brilliant full forwards not to be completely batsh*t crazy.
Quoting Brereton gives no kudos. He played for Hawthorn and is close to brain dead. We also had Loewe and Winmar in our forward lineof all the all time greats these two are the most similar. I'm not sure the poor team argument means much as we've seen with Fev and others, bottom temas often only have the on avenue to goal which can lead to good goal tallys.
Brereton said if you want a guy to watch and marvel at his feats: Ablett. a full-forward to win one game: Lockett. A full-forward to play for your season: Dunstall. Seems reasonable to me.
give Lockett the ball supply that Dunstall had, how many more goals would he have kicked?, many hundards more, than he already from dunstallDunstall would win you Premierships. Lockett would win you games.
JD>Lockett.
So you believe Richo was better than Lloyd? Dunstall was still kicking bags of goals even when Hawthorn slipped down the ladder.give Lockett the ball supply that Dunstall had, how many more goals would he have kicked?, many hundards more, than he already from dunstall
im sure he did but lockett did most of his careerSo you believe Richo was better than Lloyd? Dunstall was still kicking bags of goals even when Hawthorn slipped down the ladder.
hawthorn had champions like Jarman( noted for being one of the best kicks ever), Plattens, Pritchards, etcQuoting Brereton gives no kudos. He played for Hawthorn and is close to brain dead. We also had Loewe and Winmar in our forward line

This.Who was the better footballer as an individual? I'd say Lockett.
As someone who could play as part of a wider team set-up? Dunstall.
I don't rate Brereton much - but did hear a comment I quite agreed with
You look at ablett at applaud his indivdual brilliance, you'd back lockett to be the one who would be the best on any given day, but you'd pick Dunstall for a bloke who over an entire career would perform and win seasons/premierships year after year after year
It's fair to say though that everyone's impressions of fooballers is coloured considerably by how that bloke goes against your side - as that is the game you see most often. Hence for me I've always rated Lockett - we needed to play 2 blokes on him and he still managed to kick 6.
People often rate Carey, yet as a WC fan - he did play some great games, but on the whole Jako had his measure, particularly pre-knee. As such, he never had the GOAT dominance that others may have experienced from other sides.

Dunstall played in a golden era for the hawks, mid fielders winning the ball constantly, much more supply of the ball, & better delivery
Lockett was the machine, how many more goals would he have kicked it he had a midfield like dunstall had, many hundreds more!
I'm fairly sure Plugger kicked 100 goals in 13 games returning from suspension in 1991, that's pretty consistent! This.
Geez Plugger could tear a game apart when he got going. Dunstall was a consistent performer week in week out.

No doubt and he's the one I would pick if I had to, I'd feel pretty confident in a grand final with him my the team. My point is Dunstall would do it almost every week, every year. Both champions.I'm fairly sure Plugger kicked 100 goals in 13 games returning from suspension in 1991, that's pretty consistent!
Lockett also missed footy through injuries and they were in his prime too.Dunstall had better forwards to compete with and quality all around him kicking goals. Dunstall also missed a heap of footy at the end with 2 knees and a skull fracture.. He was ahead of Lockett before the first knee iirc.
Can't split them personally as they were very similar on the whole. Lockett more imposing, Dunstall better defensively and probably more rounded as a footballer.
Dunstall is one of the biggest morons to ever grace the AFL
What a stupid post
