I thought I read that weller is not eligible for academy and will be drafted as any other player with all clubs able to select him .
Yes he is training with the Gold Coast Academy but isnt able to be drafted under the bidding system. Goes into the main draft like every one else

As stated above. To be selected under Academy rules you need to have lived in that state for 5 or 6 years. Lach is just short of that. But he's still part of the Academy and has been for 4 years or so.

No way will the Bulldogs draft another midfielder with their first pick. The supporters will burn the grandstand down at Whitten Oval if they don't pick a KPP.

Would love Pickett with our 2nd pick but he will be long gone by then.

I look forward to you burning down the stands.

Pick 8: West Coast – Clem Smith

Position: Utility
Height: 177 cm, Weight: 74 kg, DOB: 03/02/1996
Club: Perth
Projected Draft Range: 8-15
Plays Like: Byron Pickett

Although not the most polished kick in this year’s draft, Clem Smith is exciting and as electric as they come, and he every bit impressed at the West Coast Eagles in terms of his professionals and training standards during his week-long placement as part of the AFL-AIS program earlier on in the year. Smith, who starred as a bottom-age prospect in last year’s 2013 National Championships, has carried on with that form to become a likely top 10 selection this November. Although small, Smith plays a range of roles and backs his speed to offer line-breaking runs through the midfield, off half back or pushing forward to goal. Recruiters will love the fact he’s having a solid output in the WAFL this year for Perth. He has averaged 16 disposals, slotting in seamlessly among and against his bigger-bodied counterparts. Despite averaging 20 disposals, 3.3 marks, two tackles, two clearances, and 7.6 contested possessions, his disposal efficiency from his three games thus far has been just 62 per cent, including an average of six clangers a game, more than any other player in this year’s championships.
Hmmm, all I see is 'short' and 'poor disposal'. We can't afford any more poor users of the ball in our side.

looking forward to seeing the revised draft order now that we are certain to have pick 1
If I was St.Kilda Peter Wright would have to be number one at the moment. Need a tall forward to build the team around. Billings was a great pickup last year, get Wright and fill out the remainder of the draft with midfielders.

Think they need McCartin who is the pure forward other then the ruckman/forward they already have Hickey Longer and Stanley

i dont think wright is the tall fwd we are looking for. he's more of a resting ruck, like a Q Lynch, Hill, Kruizer. We need a CHF. i'm worried he's too slow and top heavy to be successfull

McCartin might be the one we go after.

Just on our rucks:
Hickey and Longer are seen as pure ruckman. along with Pierce who is in his 2nd year and was taken with ~Pick 75. We'll continue to use Hickey as the number 1 ruck and then swap him out with longer when he needs a rest or when form says other wise. Hickeys injury was bad, but the upside was we were able to get games into longer. Long term i can see us trading out one of Hickey, Longer, Pierce at a premium. Clubs seem to be prepared to pay a premium for ready made rucks. We also have holmes developing as an international rookie, who is absolutely murdering the hit outs, just needs to develop his around the ground work.

Stanley is seen more as a forward/resting ruck. He's an agile version of Wright, if we drafted him.

Maybe but I think Wright will develop into a Tippett type of player.. stay at home forward who pinch hits in the ruck more than a ruckman.
With Stanley looking like a good CHF prospect now, do you want 3 ruckmen sized players in the forward line? Or do you go with the 193cm FF?

Depends where you rate those players you mentioned. Longer and Hickey are their best two yes.. but I think you could easily play Wright, Longer, Hickey and Stanley in the same side. Stanley would probably be fourth picked as well. Its more to do with quality than quantity.

Depends on whether you rate Lee or Stanley higher. If Lee you go with Wright, if Stanley you go McCartin as they're rated very similarly.

Bulldogs are certain to trade their 1st pick.

Jaksch and O'Rourke or Sam Reid or Jake Carlisle.

GWS have an oversupply of bigs on the list and will need to rebalance. They will likely move on a couple for list balance especially if they want Durdin.

Dreaming.
Interesting and I don't mean that in a disrespectful fashion whatsoever. We would have pick 5 or 6 I'd imagine, I'd be livid if we did a straight swap for Carlisle with pick 5. I just find it interesting that Carlisle is so highly rated internally that such a high pick would be knocked back.

Contracted, potentially the best key defender in the afl, required player

Wright will be found out in the AFL.
Surely at a minimum Wright could be like a 10cm+ taller version of your club's own Tom Lynch, due to his similarly huge tank (and ginger hair!), which will allow him to likewise roam far and wide to take lots of marks, but with much better and longer kicking for goal, more ability to be a marking threat closer to goal (due to the extra 4 or more inches of height) and of course his ability to pinch-hit in the ruck.

has your mail gotten stronger?

The clubs internal position has not changed. They doubt their 1st pick will get Wright or McCartin and they doubt Durdin and Goddard will be in the elite category. The majority of their midfield group is in their early to mid 20's and they dont want to bring in project talls. Would rather get a ready made key position player that is still relatively young. John Butcher is also a possibility but they may be able to snare him with a second or third round pick.
