Why exactly is that woman there? She doesn't really offer anything that seems to be of any use.

I think you know the answer to that...

I doubt they would have covered it up if that was the case, they would play on it if anything.

Does anyone know how they can guarantee an AFL contract?
Has a club committed to taking the winner if noone else wants him?
The AFL has guaranteed it. No need to worry about something as trivial as a club! But if no club wants the player I presume the AFL will just pay a club to take him and most clubs would take a free player if they were half decent.

Power rankings:
1. Johann Wagner - continues to play well, has AFL athleticism and age on his side
2. Brendan Goss - 23 so young enough, skilled enough and 80 goals in the VAFA indicates he'd easily be a good VFL player
3. Chris Moreland - 24, seems to do a lot of things well
4. Waylen Manson - skills are there, but little indication fitness or commitment to AFL has significantly improved
5. Ryan Semmel - Solid body, skills look good, but again at 26 unless he's got the talent and fitness to play right away he wont get picked
6. Bradie Foster - 204cm, 24 years old, has the athleticism but physicality seems a concern
7. Ryan Smith - decent size, ok skills, but haven't seen enough to know if he's a true contender
8. Nathan Jackel - Hard, tough, but short and questionable skills and at 26 unless he can play right away I don't think clubs will be interested
9. Reece Maxwell - about to turn 24 so hardly young and whilst the potential might be there it will take a couple of years just for him to learn VFL footy
10. Mark Cisco - 205cm but passed over by other US rookies in recent times and we haven't seen enough of him
11. Padraig Lucey - we've just haven't learnt anything about him yet

Really I'm just guessing because we haven't been shown nearly enough footage or got enough details about their physical details.

I found it interesting that Padraig wasn't in the bottom 3.

I would suggest that there seems to be a bit of an overrating of the hard working, good bloke, dime a dozen midfielders. Right now, I'm not ready to put a line through any of the converts, but I am with four of the experienced footballers.

I thought Collingwood have agreed to take them if no one else wants them. The show is funded by Eddies connections so it makes sense.

After last night I’m glad DJ has gone. Skill wise I’ve got no doubt he was one of the more talented potential recruits and mentally seemed stronger than other recruits but his attitude was poor and in the end really rubbed his team mates up the wrong way I think. If last night proved anything it’s that talent alone wont get you the contract, hard work and dedication is super important and something I think Voss as coach would like in a player as well.

I know my rankings are similar to the rankings of master bate before but I thought I’d pick apart the last 11.

On current form I think Wagner deserves the contract. Already had exposure at SANFL level and even if he doesn’t win the contract he will have gained some valuable exposure to club recruiters over the show.

Who makes the final 5: Along with Wagner I like Brendan Goss, Chris Moreland, Waylen Manson and Ryan Semmel.

Goss is only early 20s and if he doesn’t happen to win the competition or an AFL contract will be a very good VFL player.

Moreland has the skills you need but is also young enough to come under serious consideration as a mature rookie where as Jackel and Semmel in particular are both the wrong side of 25.

Manson’s the real interesting one. On raw talent alone he wins or gets a close second to Wagner IMO but doesn’t seem to be willing to put the hard work and dedication in to play at a higher level. If he was to win or gain an AFL contract than that’s great because he’s such a smooth and natural player but for me he would struggle with home sickness too much and not last the distance like a Dayle Garlett of recent times.

Semmel is a guy who could end up with a rookie contract at GWS or a team looking for a hard, midfield worker with a solid body and skills but at 26 I think his just missed his chances.

Bolter: Bradie Foster – Foster’s athletic ability is his biggest asset, not coming from an AFL background won’t assist his case but if there was a club that could develop him on a rookie list than why not.

Which leads me to Ryan Smith and Nathan Jackel. Personally I reckon Voss would love Jackel and his determination to put in the hard work, but his skills aren’t great and like Semmel is on the wrong side of 25.

Smith I haven’t seen enough of to make a fair assumption, if he shows more in the next few weeks than he could be a top 5 or bolter threat but right now I haven’t seen enough to be contract worthy

Next 3 up for delisting: I see the final 3 next week being between Reece Maxwell and the 2 international recruits Mark Cisco and Padraig Lucey with Cisco getting delisted early and possibly Lucey and or Maxwell during the show. None of these 3 are genuine chances unless they lift a lot.

What I thought initially was the winner was only offered a contract with GWS. If no other of the 17 clubs bids for the winner than I guess the player goes to GWS?

Sorry if I'm being repetitive, but can someone fill me in on why Wagner isnt already on an AFL list. I mean I think he clearly stands above the others but how did he fall through the cracks?

His bio on the website says he was involved in a bad car accident. It must have happened around his draft age to miss out on getting picked up by an AFL club. But he's good enough for SANFL league level as he's on Centrals' list.

Matthew Wright had something of that ilk happen to him to miss out on being drafted, albeit his involved in being glassed at a party and suffering a fractured skull, so he didn't get picked up until he was 20.

I don't get all the Reece Maxy hate - he's got some pretty elite speed and running capabilities and from the footage we've shown hasn't looked out of place.
i hope he continues to make it.

Really felt for Hutchy in that episode, you could see how much it meant to him and so harsh to cut him like that.

Wagner, Goss and Waylon really stood out that episode. Semmel and Jackal are brutes who will continue on and make the top 5 or 6 and deservedly so but I think one of the classier players will win.

When are we ever going to get some footage of Smith? Are they trying to fly him under the radar? Maybe he's a jet

I was honestly really cut up with Hutchy saying his goodbyes, he was a good bloke who didn't deserve that.
No not at all and that is where the "Reality TV" part of the show is dodgy, he was never going to win in but they wanted to make his exit dramatic so they treat him like shit.

To set up parameters that they have one player cut each week then go haha we lied now F off, is really terrible form imo.

Bit harsh to judge Voss' entire coaching tenure on mistaking two West Coast players - I have no doubt he would have known who their number one defender was when coaching and it could have just been a slip up. Would have been interesting to see how he went as a senior coach after 5 years under his belt and a proper board behind him. He seemed to be finally getting it together to a degree.

Yeah, except I wasn't. I was using a singular example I remember fondly, on top of other times his lack of knowledge has been noticeable. On top of which, I mentioned his terrible commentary and frequently he comes across as a total moron.

Exactly. If you're going to make rules, you should at least follow them. I thought the whole point of the elimination process was to weed out the guys who weren't able to get to AFL level and decide who was, so why single the guy out and not even give him the fair opportunity of competing within the set parameters of the competition? It is a reality TV show, so there are always questions regarding the integrity of the competition, but that sort of thing just invalidates it further.

It's not only being dishonest to the players, but it's being dishonest to the viewer, and it's frustrating to both compete in and watch something where the rules are constantly being changed for no real reason.

We were led to believe the actual competition would have 12 players, with one being eliminated through a set process every week. Instead, we had a final 12 that ultimately consisted of 15 players, and apparently the elimination process actually means nothing because at any time he likes, Vossy can tell you to piss off.

I don't watch reality TV usually, but I imagine even most of those shows have more integrity than this. Like, I'm pretty sure that, unless they've done something really wrong, no one has walked up to one of the Big Brother contestants and said, "nah, we just don't think you're gonna win. Pack your bags and get out. You didn't lose the vote or whatever, but we just don't want you here. Get out."

Maybe it would help if the final three was picked by Vossy and the rest of the coaches as opposed to the players, which is an idiotic concept because, as the coaches themselves stated, the players are looking for different things than they are, and it is also open to exploitation through the guys forming alliances and trying to keep the weaker guys in and the stronger guys out. On a show like Survivor, that may be fine, but I don't see how it helps when you're aiming to find an AFL player.

Would expect little else from Eddie.

Yeah don't forget how 'reality' TV works.

This is the show where they film the recruits running onto Etihad, forming a huddle, having a great inspirational speech... Then cutting, having them all shamble back down to the rooms because the game doesn't start for another 30 mins. Filming the crowd 'cheering for a goal' - also before the match is starting.

Havent seen one decent footballer yet, now they throw a couple of extra clowns in from overseas. Honestly, the number 1 sport in the country and we cant find even a handful of decent players?

Waylen has been dominating for Beaumaris in the VAFA, while Goss is an absolute star and kicked 5 goals on the weekend. Remember its a reality TV show, not a documentary.

A reality show full of spuds. It's a shame, I don't care much that it's a reality show, fair enough, but at least put good footballers on the show, you already know about 10 that have no hope, and whoever does win, has got absolute buckleys of playing a senior game. They might make a list, but they'll still be playing VFL for the rest of their career.

Added to that Voss was a massive fan of his attitude. Something which might or might not come out on the actual show.

It's interesting that Chris hasn't really been shown much footage wise during the games they have played yet still seems to be highly rated by the coaching staff.

Would seem he's been playing CHB in games. They seem to be focusing more on the forwards and nuggety onballers in the footage they show.

Moreland is a classy onballer in the GFL (arguably Victorias strongest country league) yet he's also hardly been sighted in game footage meaning he might be being played in a position that doesnt produce the highlights.

Terrific to be in such esteemed company where people can call every player rubbish,be critical of a Michael Voss for his "lack of knowledge ",call Ben Dixon soft and on and on and on.
Love bigfooty.

There is going to come a time when Voss looks at the three voted by the recruits and thinks: "There are guys standing behind them that I would delist in front of all three of these guys." I think Hutchy fell into that group.

Putting in tough and hard performances are going to win the hearts of the recruits but short big bodied midfielders with suspect skills under pressure aren't exactly in low supply.

That's why I think this show was always going to be geared towards X-factor players.

Probably would have said that about Pearce Hanley, if he'd won The Recruit in 2007. Or Blicavs in 2011. Or Pyke in 2008. Or Mumford in 2006...
