What amazing coincidences have there been in football?

How about this one:

In 1993, Essendon and Carlton play a draw. A Carlton player wearing number 4, has a shot with the scores level, and is unable to register a score.

In 2014, Essendon and Carlton play a draw. A Carlton player wearing number 4, has a shot with the scores level, and is unable to register a score.

Anyone beat that?

In round 11 2004, Essendon beat Hawthorn 24.10.154 to 12.8.80 at the MCG

Later that night at Docklands, North Melbourne beat Richmond 24.10.154 to 12.8.80

The game score of 154-80 has only happened twice in the history of football, and both of those occurances were on the same day.

31st of August, 1996 -
Andrew & Darren Jarman play their last AFL game together against St Kilda

31st of August, 2014 -
Matt & Brad Crouch play their first AFL game together against St Kilda

The only sets of brothers to play for Adelaide, and there is exactly 18 years to the day between the two occurences, and St Kilda being the opponents each time

1900 Melbourne win premiership..... 100 years later (2000) Melbourne lose Grand Final
1901 Essendon win premiership....... 100 years later (2001) Essendon lose Grand Final
1902 Collingwood win premiership....... 100 years later (2002) Collingwood lose Grand Final
1903 Collingwood win premiership....... 100 years later (2003) Collingwood lose Grand Final
1904 Fitzroy win premiership....... 100 years later (2004) Brisbane Lions lose Grand Final

It was destiny...

Steve Alessio and Adrian Gleeson played in the first draw.
Their nephews Matthew Watson and Martin Gleeson played in the second draw.
Joe Daniher's father played in the first draw.

:drunk:

At least Fletcher didn't get to play in both games.

Round 14, 2013
Port Adelaide def. Collingwood by 35 points.

The late John McCarthy wore the #35 for us, and incidentally that's how much we beat his former side by.
Reminds me of this one.

Collingwood defeats West Coast by 13 points, 5 days after McCarthy's passing and Sorrento (McCarthy's junior club) wins by 13 points on the same day.

Funnily enough, was reading yesterday the last Carlton players to retire having played in that game were Bradley and Ratten, in 2003.

11 years later, one of ours is still going.

Fletcher debuted in that game. I remember it well.

Was selected as a ruckman.

The only two clubs in the competitions history to drop out - University and Fitzroy - played each other in VAFA Premier B in 2014... exactly 100 years after their previous meeting, University's last VFL season, 1914.

Must be a record for time between games played.

Every time Chris Judd misses the target, and that's most of his possessions, the commentators always refer to it as an "uncharacteristic turnover".

That shit is freaky.
More so with Ablett than Judd. Ablett's ball use is a fair way behind Judd's and never gets criticised by a commentator for it... drives me nuts.

Fitzroys last win was against Fremantle
Fitzroys last loss was at the hands of Fremantle
Fitzroys last game was against Fremantle
Fremantles first ever AFL win was against Fitzroy
Fremantles last two games of 1996 were against Brisbane and Fitzroy respectively - keeping them each to 10.11.71 (We also scored 10.11.71 ourselves in R20)
