Was thinking along similar lines this morning and almost called into SEN, however thought better of it as I'd probably have more chance of having rational discussion on the matter on the HTB...

This whole thing has supposedly blown up because of a few unqualified questions from ASADA. What information did they have that could possibly lead to them asking these sorts of questions? I thought they didn't know what was injected, yet now they know the possible side-effects? Please. They may as well have asked them "have either of your arms fallen off since the injections?" or "have you started farting rainbows?". I have no doubt this line of questioning was there purely to scare them into an admission against the club. Evidently there was nothing to admit to and that is why we are where we are now. At what stage will ASADA be held to account for the stress this has had on guys like Paddy and Spike? I sincerely hope the club is seeking professional opinions from medical experts about these issues in an attempt to calm their nerves.

Firstly we won't take him to court, we want him to stay and play on. I think he would have to take us to court to cancel contract. If this happens under new rules EFC must delist him immediately. He would then be a delisted free agent and would avoid the draft and could go anywhere. I don't think many in the AFL want this to happen. Brisbane may think its great now, but it sets the competition up to become so uneven and unfair its a joke.

That said we do have a very real and serious obligation to protect our players. I actually do think we have done this and pathetic comments by some hacky ex cop ASADA investigator campaigner don't mean we have breached this obligation at all.

In a sometimes confronting interview, Essendon believes ASADA indicated their was possibility the child could be born abnormal because of the drugs/supplements given to Ryder, in particularly AOD-9604.

Understandably, the mental trauma heaped on the Ryders was unimaginable and Jess has struggled to forgive Essendon for putting her husband and unborn child in such a predicament.

The Ryders weren’t the only Essendon family warned of possible dangers.

Mark McVeigh and his wife were also given the alarming scenario.

Apparently AOD9604. Even though it is now officially safe and WADA legal. Just banned by AFL.

surely the season ends, Ess get a doctor/professional to create a power point presentation showing how there is no possible way an unborn or born child could have been affected by anything, play some happy music over it, then play it to Mrs Ryder.

If Ryder and his missus were that concerned they would of left 12 months ago.
 
How old is the baby now? Surely if there were any 'abnormalities'.. they would have shown up by now.. We are talking about something that happened 2.5 years ago..

Also the only banned substance that ASADA even think they may have possibly even got close to was TB4.. which isn't going to effect a baby in the slightest..

What about Stanton and his first child you don't see him wanting out of his contract it's all a ploy. the real reason is Jessica want's to be close to her family and using this clause is their ticket out of EFC.
 
This is what I think happened:

Ryder: "Really? How, where?"

Pssh. That's bs. Finally starting to reap consistent rewards from him, what a joke.

I see no world in which a guy like Ryder would want to invoke this clause.. his manager is doing his JOB and exploring all the options.. at the end of the day if Paddy leaves it will be for a good trade. Which would suck.. but it happens. If we hadn't had all this ASADA crap.. then it would be a very different slant..

ie.. get used to other clubs trying to poach our talent.. after years of being ignored or irrelevant.. people are finally waking up and thinking.. geez they have some fine players out there at Windy Hill (Tullamarine).. we just have to become more like Sydney.. and make every trade a winner.

You might want to talk to an employment lawyer before making bold statements like that. A breach of duty of care by either party in an employment contract is grounds for teh other party to terminate. The clause was added by the AFL not because they wanted to but because they had to legally, fail to put it in andin the event a player challenge and won the whole AFL collective bargaining agreement would be deemed illegal, which means that everything the AFL does with players collapse and we have a free for all.

actually, you're wrong. The breach of duty of care has always been in the contracts. The only change made by the AFL earlier this year was to make them a delisted free agent if they terminate due to breach, rather than having to go through the draft.

So I've had a busy week at work and basically copped a 'Ryder's GOOOOONNNNEE' text from a mate & just stumbled upon this news in the last day or so - I haven't read through the whole thread ins and outs but seriously, can someone here summarise where we are at so far with Ryder?! Dot points preferred :) Is he in fact out of here?!

Peter Gordon said this morning it would be a difficult things to prove. Contribute things like the player continued to play etc, there are a lot of technical details that may make it difficult. Not impossible but not as simple as some are making out if it was challanged.
