Not sure about losing his spot to Jed as they play different positions but on that performance you'd think Doc would be at BHH R1
Not directly role for role. The team is flexible enough though that Duryea could go out for Anderson and someone else would play that HBF role. If we're talking GF team however, Duryea was sub so it could literally be a straight swap. Anderson has enough class to play at either end.

It is great to have the best team in the AFL back playing footy. Unfortunately I only saw the second half.

Points of interest
  1. Ceglar seemed to school Grundy in the centre bounce ruck work. Made all the more evident when Grimley was thrown in to relieve him. I thought Ceglar was very clinical and seems to be running more/better
  2. Langford may just reach such a damaging level that sees him tagged. His ability to win a scrimmage is awesome and he seems to be reading the ball offensively of the ruck really well.
  3. Mitchell is likely to play for at least another 2-3 years.
  4. Bruest spent less time in the forward half than normal
  5. Miles looks a likely back pocket

James Frawley was rusty and struggled with the tempo of the game. He should improve during the next game or two as he starts to get an understanding of our game-plan.

I hope so. Only a practice match but he was woeful. Needs to pull the finger out and show us something more.

I don't know who was worse, Grimley or the "all-star" commentary team of Dwayne, Dermie and Jono Brown?

Liked the games from the team. Was an experience test combined with some proper game play. Dan Howe is going to be alright. Quiet achiever.

It was amazing at how with Mitchell in the contest we looked the better team, but without him, we struggled. One player in a pack of 10. That just shows why brains beats brawn.

Backline was shithouse the entire game, basically lost it for us with too much kids down there and no cohesion, as per usual for us in preseason really. Besides Teia Miles he looked surprisingly both composed with the ball and hard at it without it. Frawley criticisers should remember the last few guys we signed who didn't light the world on fire at first. The Gibson reaction after his NAB cup game was like a witch hunt.

Mitchell was the best by far, not even close (predictably), followed by Anderson who did the next most damage around the ground and has to at least get a few games this year out of any of our kids.

Langford was a 7 out of 10, definitely didn't carry the midfield like someone said though he was pretty good in the contest, Mitchell and Anderson were involved far more in the times we actually scored goals. He won the ball really well but didn't use it well enough to make something happen, which helps when you have more midfield stars around him I realise, but I want him to be able to consistently create goals by himself, like big game Langford does! So I'm being a bit harsh, but because of high expectations.

Shout out to Howe who showed some nice things even though he screwed up early and didn't have a lot of it.

Jed: big tick
Mitchell: well what I can say, still all class
Langers: tick
McEvoy: tick
Ceglar: tick
Breust: made some bad decisions, unbecoming of a 2-premiership & all australian player - dissapointing, more pre-season games required.
Gunners & Shiels: see comments about Breust, ok he is not all australian (yet!)
Dissapointments: Hartung, Woody, Simpkin, Grimley, Lithers, Frawley, Stratts, all need more pre-season games.
The newbies: Well Box Hill beckons.

One has to ask, has the pre-season training been good enough to prepare them for NAB games?

We don't prepare for NAB games, we prepare for the season

I don't recognise hardly any posters here, how come you blokes come out kicking and screaming when we lose? Clarko couldn't give a rats arse about today, he through out a freshman and sophomore team with a sprinkling of vets.. Meh.

Be good to see some more of you guys post more regularly on the board, naisayers getting all chirpy in Feb :-/

All great players yes, but 4 of them in the twilight of their careers, Personally Nab cup aside, i thought your younger players looked average, all similar and nothing extraordinary to continue the point of difference over the rest of the comp. Still though, the hawks will be flying when it counts this year.

Lol f uck off. Round 1 nab cup means zero. I used to remember the years of 04,05,06 when nab cup meant so much. See Brisbane early 00s, geelong' preseason glory period as well speaks volumes.

Keep wobbling ;)

What did people expect from this game.
Hawthorn are 4 weeks behind in their preparation.
When you play so many 1st gamers at once you totally lose cohesion.
As some have said Collingwood wanted to win far more. Any win against Hawthorn is good after their recent shellackings.

Might be like comparing chalk and cheese but Buddy had a tough start at $ydney and took some weeks to find his feet. Hopefully same goes for Frawley. Not that Frawley is anywhere near star status but he will get better. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

More like comparing coke and speed

Seriously, when you have about 6 senior players playing with 20 kids how can you expect them all to dominate?

Get a grip people, its hard enough for a talented youngster to make his way in AFL football when they have a full team of senior players around them let alone with bunch of kids.

Anderson - freak, best 22, could win the Rising Star if eligible

Hartung - disappointing tonight but is the type of player who will play well when the senior players are there feeding it out to him in space, particularly at this point in his career, I think people are expecting too much.

Woody - won't make it for mine, nothing stands out about him, small, not athletic, average kick, can find the ball but so can a lot of others.

This years draftees shouldn't have even been out there, don't expect to see any of them in 2015.

Sicily - good in patches, has the tools needs to find consistency and will do so with experience.

The senior blokes were taking the piss for the main part, Frawley looked average but will be a different player when we have a full squad in.

Watched the game.

Jed is a star.
Sicily is a star.
Ceglar is a star.
Hartung had a bad game for the same reasons Breust did (no space) - only Mitch is good enough to deal with that.
Brand looked likely and will come back.

The rest are so hard to judge it's too hard to know yet.

Forgot it was on. Even then, it barely registered on my radar.

As long as there are no injuries, that's all I need to hear.

Brand dislocated his shoulder.

Didn't need to hear that then.

Spose it went something like this...

Did Collingwood come out like they were playing a finals game?

Did Clarkson barely rotate his on-ballers and have a backline comprised of 'try-outs'?

Looks like I made the right call in going to the cricket! Thanks for all the comments and analysis, sounds like a few shining lights in an overall pretty ordinary performance. Never mind, only the pre-season, and I'm sure what we did tonight was all part of one of Clarko's cunning plans so I'm not unhappy, especially as I'm another one who had a small collect

You can almost feel the Collingwood bandwagon coming, Buckley over 10 minutes with his pressy.

Master coach leading a talented, hungry side with their eyes on the main prize.

I've bagged Collingwood all season but the tackling pressure they put on was impressive.

Even though the Hawthorn hierarchy wouldn't give a rats arse about the game I can see why people are disappointed.

Half the team were basically in job interview mode and they were soft, didn't tackle and messy. I was quite surprised at how bad Woody, Simpkin and other fringe players were. I was also surprised at how bad some of the youngsters were. Not tackling g or chasing tackles was quite freaky. I was however blown away by Jed Anderson and seriously impressed with Billy the Kid, Gus, Siciliy, Howe, Ceglar and Duryea...
