Just seen on a preview for open Mike. Done deal to Hawthorn apparently. Hawks backed out so he took the gauranteed FS offer to the lions.

I'm not going to sit here and think what have could been. But interested to hear the full story once it airs.

Well it that draft we took Luke McPharlin, Brett Johnson, Tim Clark, Chance Bateman, Tim Hazell and Billy Nicholls.

Interesting to know where we would have taken him.

McPharlin was a great pick he just didn't want to stay and I wouldn't trade Changa for anything.

Meh.

Three flags since 2008 and every chance at another one this year...not a lot to regret from any Hawthorn person's point of view, be it supporter or (ex) recruiting staff.

LOL. Even when we miss out on certified champions, we still win flags.

We've been kissed on the dick(through hard work).

Spare a thought for teams like Richmond who pass up Pavlich for Fiora....and then their supporters sit through year after year of rubbish.

We are lucky that we can look at us turning our back on Brown and still be absolutely chuffed with the team we follow.

Interesting, though not sure it was an opportunity lost. If we had a monster full forward, we probably wouldn't have picked up Franklin and/or Roughead.

and then we could have taken Tambling instead. Dunno what Brown did to give us cold feet but whatever it was thank god he did it.

Browny has been awesome for AFL in Queensland ... respected by everyone - including league & union fans.
Sad we missed out on him, but we've did ok with many other champion players ... we go ok ;)

We had two picks before he went as f/s at pick 30: McPharlin at 10 and B Johnson at 25.

Had he not committed to f/s we don’t know what interest other clubs might have had in him.

There’s a good chance he might not have been available at either of those picks.

Yeah retrospectively we may not have taken Franklin and Roughead so I couldn't care less. He did say something like it was gauranteed that he would have been at the Hawks if they didn't back out. Not sure how that's gauranteed with a year to go before the draft. You can only assume it would have been the McPharlin pick, which likely means we wouldn't have been able to pick Luke Hodge.

It's like back to the future. Change one thing and the whole world changes forever.

Brown skipped the 1998 draft to be available to Brisbane as a FS in 1999. Maybe we were pushing for him in the 1998 draft.

But don't lose sight of the fact that they have more members than us!!!

I remember being in awe of Jono Brown..especially during the Lions dominant years.

But as a previous poster said, if we did have him it would be very unlikely that we would have drafted BOTH Buddy & Roughy..

Very few Brions people would like to see us equal their three-in-a-row (which is understandable), but J. Brown is one of those few, so he goes alright. ;)
