Who are these players with VFL form?

In fact I'll go a step further.

Tarrant last year gets a gig on the back of pretty much nothing. We play him underdone and he ends up out for the year.

We play Lachie off the back of 4/5s of FA and allow him to work his way back at AFL level because he has creidt in the bank whatever teh f*** that means.

Mullet has a couple of decent hit outs why is the above not applied to him? we have some under performance from the plethora of half backs we have.

The team selection is a bit Orwellian.

Some in the team are more equal than others.

Maj should have played last night.

McMahon it won't matter how well he plays, should have got the nod over JMac against Hawthorn.

I agree Maj should have played last night, he would have been a far better selection than Wood. I wasn't going to write this, and it's probably out of line..... But does anyone think that Maj is not getting picked because of the court thing?? I mean he has been removed from all promotional material, he was not allowed to go to the family day... Is it possible he is destined to play the year at VFL level until this is the court thing is completed? I guess this week will be telling. Wood was diabolical, Waite may be injured, and Brown probably won't come up. If Daw isn't picked it is an indication that he won't be imo.
McMahon by his own admission was really shit in the VFL until 2 weeks ago, so this great form he had pre Hawthorn game, did not exist. He could be included at the expense of Ats or Luke this week, or Mullett and Scott could come in for both of them.
Dumont has been solid in the VFL but hasn't been as good as he was late last year, he plays a very similar role to Spitta and Cunners so I can understand why he wasn't selected. In saying that he should have started last night, we had nothing to lose against the best midfield in the Comp, at least he could have been given an education up close as to how the best go about it.

Like I said I don't know that the reason he didn't get picked is court, it just seems to be a possibility.
JMac isn't the reasonwe lost to Hawthorn, McMahon was horribly out of form in the VFL at the time by his own admission. JMac played a good game last night, soooo he was better for the run against Hawthorn, played pretty well against the cheats and showed that he is getting better each week last night.
Froggy has been good, but hadn't been banging the door down. Last year he regularly got 35+ and kicked goals and couldn't force his way in. So his 25 possession games not forcing his way in have not surprised me. He was a no brainer inclusion for Spitta and it blows my mind that he was the sub.

I love how if you're not an extremist you're cast as a 'Scott lover'.

For what it's worth:

- In 2012 we couldn't compete with the big teams. In 2013 we rectified that.
- In 2013 we lost a billion close games. In 2014 we rectified that.
- In 2013 we were far, far too easy to score against. I'm 2014 we changed our defensive structures and tightened that, being one of the better defensive teams in the league.

You're so blinded by rage you can't see the actual and practical positive changes the team has made.

I've been very critical of Brad Scott's game day coaching and selection over the years, but **** me - it's not his fault we got reemed tonight.

- In 2015 we are back to 2012, but our list is more experienced.

This is a great call actually.
We always seem to get smashed in this stat in losses. This could stem from lack of work rate from our much vaunted running defenders. Mullett, Atley, Luke and JMac and further afield in our dreams Garner and Harper would provide this run and overlap. Last night it was virtually non existent. With Thompson, Tarrant, Hansen and Spud on the ground almost 100% of the time are we robbing ourselves of the overlap options? Is it more about stopping the other teams uncontested ball or raising our number of uncontested ball???

He's an upgrade on the injured Black that we made play out 2014 hurt, which has put him behind in 2015.

It wasn't Back he kept out of the side in round 1.

Before a game was played this year, did you think we had a good list?

A good list is pretty vague.

Do we have a good list to be mostly competitive barring bad injury runs? Yes
Do we have a list that can take us to the top 8? Yes
Do we have a list that can take us to the top 4 (3-4)? Unlikely
Do we have a list that can take us to the top 2? No
Do we have a list that can win the flag? Not even close

We are short on class, especially around the middle, especially younger players. We all like to think Boomer is going to play until he is 40+ at the top of his game but reality is he has year by year being getting worse, that is not his fault, it is amazing he is still playing at his age.

The problem for us, is that it is hard to gauge expectation from players who haven't played a whole lot. Each year we expect more players from the 20-24 group to step up. Lets have an honest appraisal of our players: * denote close to that age.

McDonald 20, 29 games. Shows a lot of heart, has not shown any of the ability by foot he showed in the juniors, we are doing him a disservice by not addressing it through the VFL. Optimistic.

Garner 21, 2 games. (2012 Draft, R1-15) Has taken over JWS' role of permanently injured. Unsure.

Wood 21, 6 games. (2012 Draft, R2-41) Has shown some promise, not being played in the role he was developed. Optimistic.

McKenzie 22*,22 games. (2011 Draft, R1-18) Hasn't shown any signs that he will make it. Not optimistic.

Brown 22, 17 games. (2013 Draft, R3-47) Has been good, is developing well. Optimistic.

Atley 22, 94 games. (2010 Draft, R1-17) Has progressively gone backwards since 2012/13. Not optimistic.

Harper 23*, 40 games (2010 Draft, R2-27) Will struggle to get a new contract. Not optimistic.

Mullett 23, 48 games (2012 Draft, R5-91) Has been plagued with injury problems since 2013. Optimistic.

Jacobs 23, 54 games (2012 Draft, R2-37) Has heart, lacks polish, not really seeing signs of possible upside. Not optimistic.

MacMillan 23, 68 games (2009 Draft, R3-37) Has been up and down with injuries since 2013, optimistic outlook.

Cunnington 24*,107 games (2009 Draft, R1-5) Has issues with Swallow in the same side, playing the same role. Optimistic.

Bastinac 24*, 111 games (2009 Draft, R2-21) Has been developed poorly imo, should have been forced to bulk up more, add core strength and power into his game, add acceleration, focused too much on endurance which was already a strength. Largely getting games due to not recruiting more midfielders. Unsure.

Daw 24, 14 games (2012 Draft, Rookie) Has been poorly developed, played mostly ruck in VFL, expected to come in and play mostly forward, isn't picked in games like when Brown is injured. Not optimistic.

Ziebell 24, 108 games (2008 Draft, R1-9) Best position is half-forward, with rotation through the middle. Isn't played that way, is hit or miss as a pure midfielder. Has been poorly developed imo, has dropped weight, lost his power. Optimistic (with a better coach).

Black 24, 48 games (2009 Draft, R2-25) Had a strong 2013, was meh last year but we apparently played him injured all season rather than fix him up, has been mediocre since, would rather watch Hawks vs Swans than his own team play. :stern look I am not optimistic that he will be around long-term.

Wright 24, 92 games (2008 Draft, R2-27) Has been mostly disappointing up until late last year, particularly during the finals, has been disappointing this year, decision making and execution not of the same standard, has the capability of playing better, playing the percentages better, he should be dropped when he lets his standard slip too far. Unsure, someone at 24 playing close to 100 games shouldn't be borderline best 22, basic decision making and execution shouldn't be as bad as it gets.

We just have too many players near abouts, not enough taking the bull by the horns. I am optimistic about a lot of players, especially if they are better coached and developed, by someone else. That recruiting 2-3 years ago looked like it would set us up for a premiership tilt but at this stage it is looking like half of them are going to bomb out. We wouldn't be bringing in Dal Santo, Waite, Higgins, etc if these players had lived up to expectation.

What we are really lacking is that 4-5 mids looking to become elite, we have 1, possibly although unlikely 2 with a few destined for the flanks. We just do not have enough engine room power and drive that has class with the ball.

hopefully someone to develop the players and stop guarenteeing games to a select group. we do not have the stepin players like the top teams who have players floating around in the reserves just waiting to stepin and steal a spot. with a coach who basically makes changes due to injury calls only, its pretty hard to get a break.

I know this because Scott tells us so repeatedly, which makes me feel great.

Why he hasn't bothered to fix these easily rectifiable problems in the last 3 years I am not entirely sure though......umm, maybe BS was just talking BS again and actually has no idea how or what to fix?
