At this stage of their careers we would choose Shiel.
I am not sure that it would come down to that particular choice however.
Nevertheless we would need to give up a good player and pick to get Shiel.

STEP UP SUCKERS.

Sshouted from Thailand for all to hear.

Cats supposedly all over him, as he's from there....If we lose Lake by years end, then we should be targeting this bloke as a priority replacement for him.
Agree
If he is on the way out, there will be quite a few clubs keen
Big guys who are good both forward and back are like gold

Do you mean "That's Gold Jerry, Gold"

Anyway back on track - Let's look to GWS mids as a trade otherwise lets draft a 1st rounder ourselves.

Players like Shiel & Treloar who are among the first picked for gws every week won't leave. They'll get a taste of finals this year and you don't have to be a genius to recognise they're the most talented list ever assembled in the afl era.
Gws' premiership window will open in 2016 and barring something truly calamitous will remain open for 8+ years.
It'll be much easier to land a Gold Coast A grader, there is a real stench emanating from that club.

That's what people were saying about Gold Coast last year.... That's what people were saying about Poort last year!

Still reckon the most players to move will be Carlton mature recruits.

They are rubbish as a team, but there are pretty good individual players. You put them in a system like Hawthorn's, which doesn't breed rubbish, has good structures and good leaders, and watch them play well.

I honestly would be happy if we could pick up a Murphy or Henderson for cheap. Fact is, you can bend Carlton over a barrel, as players will want to ditch Carlton by years end, like rats flying out of a sinking ship.

That being said, GWS will still lose some quality kids. Their list is too full of quality talent, that some are just going to miss first team ops, that would get them in other teams. The fact that Kelly isn't getting many games, is already a good indication of that.

Would prefer Kelly over just about anyone at the blues.

Dude. Same here. I rate Kelly very very highly. He's an absolute freak. I seriously doubt GWS will let him go anytime soon.

I'm just thinking realistically, Carlton are going to have a firesale end of this year. As such, they're in a position to get ripped off a little, as they just don't have the bargaining power. They need high draft picks to kick start their rebuild.

Despite a lot of their players getting slammed by media and this board alike, I still think there are good, experienced players in their midst, which would be good pickups for our side. Murphy isn't captain material, but put him in a good side, where he can concentrate on clearances and extraction, and you have made a pretty good deal out of that.

They are a crap team. But enterprising teams will realise that good individuals in their side have now become underpriced owing to their teams poor performance.

Think like the inverse of Clinton Young. When surrounded by a good team & structures that win, Collingwood threw a lot at him. Now in a middle of the road side, he's pretty average as far as it goes, and we see his individual quality was overpriced by the Piies. Like that trade in reverse ;)

we signed him to a 2 year contract extension (effectively 4 years) after his second game.
I used to speak to his mum occasionally and she said he was really enjoying it.
The offer would have to be something remarkable for us to trade him.

Yeah I honestly agree. I remember watching a couple of his first games last year. Guy just had immense composure for such a young player. Oozed class with his clean disposal. Honestly reckon he'll be a top 10 player in a couple years.

Suffering the second year syndrome thus far, but went back to the NEAFL and had more touches than Robert Allenby at a Hawaiian strip club the last 2 weeks.
Gets his chance back with Whitfield out crook this week. Hoping he finds his form from last year.

Murphy is not someone I'd want at
Hawthorn. Soft, unaccountable and not that flash in the skills department.

I would love Henderson I wouldn't mind Yarran as he has some toe and good skills. He would need a good kick up the arse though as he has lots of bad habits.

I'm hoping Leon Cameron photocopied a page or two one night when he was working back late at the Ricoh centre!!

Are you saying that Leon Cameron has an Excel Spreadsheet?

I'm sorry but Murphy is better than Yarran. Yarran makes no defensive pressure at all. Guy is lazy and always plays selfish football. Rubbish mentality.

Murphy at his best is a superior player but his best is rarely seen these days. But it's probably irrelevant as neither will be at Hawthorn.

Yarran is playing like a man who wants out this year and you can't blame him.

W/A BOYS got over the S/A BOYS today by a point in the U18 Champs....11.7.73 to 9.18.72....Shocking goal-kicking by the S/A LADS.

Luke Partington 4 S/A bog....All the details in the Championships fred stickied at the top of the drafts/trading & free agency board.

Interesting Jake Carlisle is refusing to even talk to the Bombers regarding his contract
I know WADA may make up his mind for him, but I found that interesting

I would love to have one of Murphy at Hawthorn. The only problem is his age really doesn't fit when we already have an ageing list. Shiel, Treloar, Dixon or Dangerfield would be great. However, it is doubtful we would have the cash or assets willing to be traded to acquire any of them. Our best bet is to go for someone that hasn't reached their potential, a player the hawks coaches think can develop into a good player. The new Hale or Gibbo.
