Also a lot of rumours about Pepijn Lijnders as our Mike Marsh replacement.

Ive been reading a lot about him and he is very highly rated. He is our current U16s manager.
I can't help feeling that the promoting-from-within thing could relate to the potential for Klopp to come in. If we sign new coaches we would have to pay them out if Klopp brought his own team in. It may be that BR knows him and rates him, and previously he's complained about the young players not being ready to take on the first team, but I would've thought defense was the main focus of the coaching changes.

Emre Can assist to Kevin Volland (Firmino's team mate at Hoffenheim and another forward I wouldn't mind us having a look at!):

Emre Can vs Denmark U21:

Emre Can vs Serbia U21:

That's 2 excellent performances from Can so far this tournament, he also won the free kick that Volland scored this cracker from:

One of the real positives of the squad we've assembled is the positional and tactical flexibility of the players. Something Rodgers has made a point of looking for in any new signings we've brought in, and something he's fostered in the players we've got. This allows us a degree of flexibility in terms of where we make those major additions to the squad this summer.

Posted this a few weeks ago trying to work out where the gaps were:

But as you can see, you could easily shuffle a few players around - particularly in the final third. For example, drop Coutinho or Lallana back into that 'New CM' position and play Sterling at #10 with a new signing in that LF role next to Sturridge in a front 2 as we did in 2013/14, or go with a straight 4-3-3 and have 3 of Sturridge/Sterling/Ibe/Lallana/Markovic/Milner/new forward in attack.

The fact that someone like Firmino is capable of playing up front, out wide or behind the striker should be seen as a massive tick in his favour. If you ask me it'd be a bit of a waste if we signed an out & out CF for £30m who didn't have the flexibility to play other roles when Sturridge was fit, and forced Sturridge wide or had to sit on the bench.
I dont think Milner is a back up though. Which is why that New CM spot I dont think will be filled. Particularly if we continue to chase Clyne. If Clyne comes in with Gomez too and Flanno returning to fitness, plenty of options at CB. I think Can will be fully released into midfield too which gives us further options in the middle of the park.

I love to sell Sterling and use the money on Son and Firmino, i think it would actually be a large upgrade.

Firmino can certainly play as a striker, can play anywhere in a front three.

A good article on Joe Gomez. Sure it's written by a Charlton fan so you cant take too much from it. But geez he is highly rated.

Heard it all before though to be honest. Coates was young player of the tournament at Copa America when Uruguay won it. Ilori came with huge wraps. Neither have progressed. Could just be more of the same.
Read exactly the same thing from Swansea fans on Allen.

No to Bacca. Turns 29 in September.
Buying a bunch of 20 year olds has worked out dandy

FFS

Fear of buying a player who hasn't reached their prime yet is unbelievable.

I dont want to buy a bunch of 18 years old but 29 seems a little old. FSG wont go for it.

I wouldnt be totally against it if we did buy him. Just seems super unlikely. Personally I would rather someone around 25 or so.

Only time Firmino has ever scored over 10 league goals is 13/14 where he kicked 16, so while he'd be a good signing, he's likely not going to be our goal-scoring saviour!

He's had 11 & 10 Assists in the last 2 seasons though. That should be the main focus as a midfielder, scoring is secondary.

(In comparison, Fabregas had 18 assists, Cazorla 11, Di Maria 10, Hazzard 9, Henderon 9, Sanchez 8, Sterling 7 for 2014/15 EPL)
