Toast The media....*Nods Head*

Not a fan of Hutchy but today he made me smile. In one fell swoop he managed to give the Crows ambassadors and all the supporters listening on AA a dose of reality. He said that Adelaide basically have no leverage in the Danger trade and that they should just be happy with whatever pick they get. He went on to say that even if Paddy ends up in the PSD he will probably sign a one year deal then move anyway. Panel said that you cant sign one year deals but Hutchy insisted you can.
I rate Hutchy massively. Not a member of the boys club media brigade, strong and logical opinions, and will call out people with agendas as he sees them.

Hutchy is correct on this one. Danger could put himself in the PSD and say his terms are 1 year $1.2mil and see who takes him in the PSD on that.

Shows what a crap thing free agency is. We may laugh at Adelaide and Danger but if we lost a top player for a late pick only we'd be spewing. And there's already the examples of Hawthorn getting 19 only for Buddy and Melbourne getting 3 for Frawley.

It's not like paddy has walked out after doing nothing at the club. Has stuck around for I think 8 Years now.

They can match. Geelong then can better the free agency compensation by offering pick 9. I don't see how people can justify Chris Judd type compensation when a) Chris Judd was a better player b) that was before free agency.

In my opinion the crows are talking so tough in the media that they are gonna have to try to back it up. Geelong will likely offer them heaps but shy of the first 2 picks + player they want and Geelong will tell them to F off.

Geelong will likely come out with pick 9 + player. That is worlds ahead of the compo pick.

Despite all the crows posturing they absolutely cannot lose him for nothing in the psd. They will be worse off then Geelong will. Distinct lack of A grade talent in th midfield if Brad crouch can't stay on the park then it's pretty much Sloane plus b graders.

I watched a Port supporting Brodie Smith and his family morph into one of them before my very eyes.

Bigger Port men you would not find.

All I see is a family supporting their child... I have no issue with it.

And I went to school with a one eyed Crows supporter in Tommy Logan... could argue he is now Port thru and thru!

Us pinching him would almost be worth the 1.2 just for lol factor :D

love how he is now paddy, not clanger.

but that aside, compo system is a heap of shite anyways. the compensation method should be transperant, and the compensation should come from the club gaining the player. it becomes effectively a AFL guided trade. If the club wants the player real bad, and are prepared to offer crazy money, then they are slugged maximum draft pick for him. It would bring the offers back down to earth for mediocre players for starters seeing as a club would want to stay below a threshold that sees them pay more in compo.

The Crows have zero leverage. As I was saying to a friend a few days ago, the way they have handled this whole situation has been shambolic. It was barely a week ago that the same Crows people were jizzing in their pants every time Dangerfield got near the footy against Hawthorn at the G. I think if we were to try and compare any similar scenario, it would be along the lines of if Robbie Gray chose to pack up and leave for Victoria because he needed to get back to his family (for whatever reason). If we make this an equal hypothetical and make Gray a restricted free agent, I would hope that the Port management would come out with something along these lines:

Robbie Gray has today informed us of his decision to continue his football career in Victoria next season. We thank Robbie for his immense contributions to the Club over the past 9 seasons since being drafted by the Club in 2006, and wish him well into the future. The Club will now evaluate its options to ensure it receives the best possible compensation. Until any transaction has been completed, the Club will not provide any further comment on the matter.

Instead, we've got Fagan blowing up a storm saying the club is going to trade with any Victorian club (even though Dangerfield can deny any trade), then we've got Ricciuto barking BS all over the radio, be it that Wingard Hawthorn bullshit, or pouring fuel on the Hartlett non-rumour. And let's not forget the Crows best ally, the Crowvertiser, who have smashed Dangerfield this week for exercising his right to leave as a FREE AGENT.

All I can say is "Thank **** I don't support the mob at West Lakes."

two first rounders and a first 22 player Geelong could buy a top 3 pick and ignore the crows.
You don't think Gold Coast would swap 3 for 9+first rounder next year + say a Murdoch (which is what I've seen mentioned around crows boards).
Carlton or Brisbane aren't going to take him.

This is one of the more baffling posts I've ever seen. If Hutchinson isn't the president of the boys club media brigade then he's not far behind.

Wrinkles' tantrum today was pretty impressive. Started off by calling Dangerfield a once-in-a-generation player, then went on to talk about how he owes the Crows because he never played well enough to win a B&F/Brownlow etc. Couldn't even get to the end of the article without contradicting what he wrote at the start.

Serious? To me he's always stunk like the uncool kid who couldn't crack the boys' circle, and so allowed himself to be made the butt of jokes so he could at least shine their shoes.

Either way back in the dark ages he was one of the only journalists bringing up the license issue and keeping the 5AA propaganda machine on their toes, so as a member of the media who appears to do more research than simply knowing what Jono Brown's favourite beer is I'll always have time for him.

Just as Barrett was the only one giving us airtime and reasonable reporting on our situations in the dark ages, and for that I'll keep an ounce of respect for him.

I find that funny given many of them actually work for him.

Is this a Nick Stevens kind of scenario where the Crows could get 2tenths of F*%#K All for Danger..... depending on what they want in return.

Contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on if a player doesn't have his best interests at heart for the club that he has been drafted to, not unless the player fully understands that his heart is for the game 1st, club 2nd.

The contract is for a time. Dangerfield has done his. One thing is, if they can't already be put into contracts that upon them finishing that the club must be willing to trade them at a fair (AFL independent ruling) price to certain club(s) / state, then it should be able to be. For instance a gun player after 5 years should be able to take slightly less pay on a contract into it been written into the contract that the club will accept a first round pick for them if he chooses to go.

Clubs and players should be able to build more options into contracts.

Who knew Trigg was a trend setter with his "draft tampering" i mean "admin error".
Seems very close to what he did that your proposing.
