Traded James Aish [traded to Collingwood for #26 and St Kilda's 2016 second round pick]

This is all incredibly fanciful. He's uncontracted. If he wants out, he gets out. That's how it works these days. When has Pickering ever been subtle about his clients intentions before when they've wanted out? He doesn't fear "certainty".

Regardless, his decision was already certainly made before Lethal spoke. Seems more likely that that threat was (with Aish in the bag already) simply a warning to the next wantaway type (note the complete lack of outrage from Pickering). A free hit for Lethal essentially.

If he signs, he wants to be here.

How many times has "wants to go to Collingwood" been used as trade leverage in the past?

If you want to believe Collingwood wasn't his 1st choice, that's your prerogative.

I have no doubt Leigh and Brisbane's stance of "Guaranteed no trade" was given to Pickering and Aish weeks ago. Hence, no announcements out of the Aish/Pickering camp.

But when Leigh put that "guarantee" into the public sphere, Liam and James would have known they weren't bluffing.

Pickers never announces until he is sure.

Whether Aish was Collingwood first and Brisbane second followed by the rest

or

Collingwood/Brisbane 50/50

Leigh Matthews made the choice for him....Brisbane, PSD or ND

Mate I hope he does sign for you. You deserve more than 2 yrs service from a top 10 draft pick. It's been a very unusual stance from Aish. Not sure it makes much sense. Maybe the Lions made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

Been one of the weirdest player retention stories for us

Hopefully he signs a long term contract, 3 years plus

Call me crazy but holding a gun to a 19year olds head just doesn't strike me as a good way to negotiate.

Feel free to list cases where ultimatums have worked in retaining an uncontracted player. The Carlton supporter is just disappointed his theory involving Leigh frogmarching Aish into the PSD for Carlton didn't play out.

What kind of a post is that from a mod of this board?

The fact that the PSD became an option, after Leigh's guarantee, did pique my interest, but it in no way has been what i've been posting about. I don't think it will get to that.

What i have been posting about is my amazement that footy fans, especially Brizzy fans, seem to regard Leigh Matthews as just another liar like the normal parade of liars in the AFL. I don't. I guess we'll find out.

To me, when Leigh Matthews gives a "I guarantee that", it means something. But no-one seems to agree with me.

I found/find this attitude interesting. And continue to, even if the team i barrack for isn't involved.

You can prescribe any values to Leigh that you wish but it's the fact of the matter that it's his job to get out there and posture with the best of them.

Leigh Mathews is not part of the footy department, he is a board member. He would have to get the board to agree to issue this ultimatum and that is not a sure thing.

The trade period is one of the mechanisms that allows players to move, for the AFL to avoid a restraint of trade type case. If Brisbane refused to even negotiate they would be leaving themselves and the competition open to a pretty easy court cast for Aish (if he decided to go down that path). If Aish decides to leave to whoever, then Brisbane will have to deal in good faith. Only an idiot gets nothing and if you have read some of the ideas for the game that Lethal has come up with, he may have received one too many knocks to the head.

Roylion told me earlier in the thread when i asked about Leigh's position at the Club, that he is Vice Chairman and Football Director. I think Roylion would know.

This position that Leigh holds informs me that he can/has driven his opinion to become a Board/Club position on Aish. Hence Leigh's "i can guarantee that". Aish and Pickering seemed to listen.

Rubbish that they have listened, they have not said a thing.

Pickering knows they cannot do it, the AFLPA and AFL will go ballistic.

Sounds like Pies don't have the picks to get it done. Two 1st rounders for Treloar it is then....

Give up pies ! Move on , nothing here you you lot , got no marbles left boys treylor got the lot

Wouldn't read too much into Leigh's comments. On 3AW the previous week, he said Collingwood should send Freeman into the draft.

He was just trying to piggy back on this type of feeling. Both Schwab & Swann have distanced themselves from those comments.

Schwab said this morning he is still unsure what Aish is doing. I wouldn't read too much into Matthews' comments.

Pickering has been very quiet so I expect there's a fair bit to play out. Will not be convinced Aish is staying at Brisbane until he holds a press conference after putting pen to paper.

Despite not wanting to count chickens, Pickering's lack of noise is probably the most encouraging sign I've seen with regards to Aish re-signing. He's not averse to getting word out there to stir the pot on his players departing and the lack of leaks over the last few weeks is probably as telling as the earlier leaks about Aish leaving were as well.

I actually agree with you. I think the club has, there's just a lag for BF posters to catch up with reality.

(P.S. you clearly haven't got a girlfriend if you think you can't look in the shop window with no money;))

No - It be this Years 1st and Next years 2nd. Problem Then with Trading next years 2nd that we can't then Trade Next Years 1st

I still hold hope that he nominates Richmond, just to see the absolute chaos that will be created between the lions and tiger posters on here.

and Get off Collingwood Fans Backs
