Think booing a kid might be a bit over the top...

He made his choice. He's seeing other people, we gotta move on ;)

goes to show that kids/players will choose other clubs over us as long as we are a basket case. The last couple of years have not helped us at all with the way the club has perfomed and the perception is accurate. This club is so far behind powerhouse clubs and even clubs like st Kilda have rebuilt better than us and are 3-4 years more advanced.

Don't blame the kid for going when he has connections with both clubs and could choose where to go.

I don't blame the young fella at all and wish him all the best, I blame passed administrations for the mire we are in. I totally agree with your above statement of how far we have fallen and to let it happen by the quick fix route has not helped our development. We need to get the best young talent and build a side around Bolton that will hopefully have people wanting to make Carlton their home in the future and be successful again.

Look at the amount of time both clubs put in to Bailey and then think about his decision. Sessions at St. Kilda going over game footage and doing rehab for an injury while at Carlton he got a couple of games in our reserves. If anything we failed Bailey not the other way around. If he did make it to Carlton then I would treat him with the same respect and fondness that I give to any f/s selection (Buckley/SOSOS etc) and so should everyone else!!!!!

No qualms about missing out on Bailey who had a tough decision on his hands.

Of course it would have been nice to see him nominate Carlton but there was always one supporter group going to be disappointed that he nominated the other.

St Kilda seemed to put a fair bit more into Bailey over the past few years so it was no huge surprise that he decided to go to the Saints rather than us. Good luck to him.

Good luck to Bailey, I have no issue with this at all. He's a kid.

But if the Saints don't/can't match any offer pick wise, I hope we don't take him. Not sour grapes at all, only want people committed to this club.

I also don't want him here in the future if things are looking up. Or if the Saints are battling. That would prove he's a downhill skier & I think we're finally weeding them out.

This is no loss at all. He's made his Seaford bed & can enjoy laying in it.

This is bullshit. The Saints have done a lot more for Bailey than Carlton has so why would you expect him to choose us over them? The club failed Bailey not the other way around.

Of course. I just think the sentimentality of having the son of a premiership player shouldn't over-ride the overall list structure. I think that Carlton has enough young players who can play Bailey's role so I'm happy that the club can potentially snare a young player who can play a role where we are deficient. No judgement on the player himself, here.

Sorry on my phone and clicked on the wrong message to respond to. It was more for one of the many posts complaining that Bailey chose the Saints over us.

And if we put half of much time into Bailey as the Saints did then he probably would of shown us the same enthusiasm. Loyalty works both ways.
Sure. But there's probably a reason we didn't (I don't know that as fact fwiw). I'm sure if we were desperate for the kid, we'd have pushed harder for him.

Then how can you use the "only want players who want to play for us" line if we didn't want him in the first place. You are basically acknowledging that he made the right decision .....

He still had the choice. Despite whatever efforts were made by both clubs, if he was desperate to play for us (like Silvagni), he would have chose us.

The fact he hasn't isn't right or wrong. It just proves that playing for the Blues wasn't the first thing on his agenda.

What an odd thing to get fired up about. Are you related to him or something? Did you miss the first sentence?

As I said, he's a kid. I'm not bothered one iota. I wish him the best. He had a choice to make & he chose what's best for him. As he should.

As we all do, he has to live with that choice now. And Carlton don't need anyone who isn't 100% committed to us. This is what we are trying to rid ourselves of.

I fail to see what's so egregious about that.

He can play though Aph. Disappointed to miss out on him.

Same but it's not the be all and end all HBF.

If he wasn't F/S, where would he be in the draft order. Top 20?

I actually heard from someone he chose the Saints because of location (close to home).

Think most had him rated early to mid 2nd round (20-25ish), and more likely to slide further than sneak into the first round.
I'd still have him in that range for sure. Quality does dip pretty quickly this year.
