Why have we cooled on Anderson? Is it because we got the Seed instead?
Who says we have cooled though? For all we knew 10 minutes before the Seed nominated us, he was "bound" for Gold Coast. Until Anderson comes out and nominates a club that he wants to play for, we and the other 17 clubs are very much in the running for his services.

Putting aside Brian Lake's age, ability and body of work, the man is one of the world's great dickheads. Not just the AFL's, the world's. I have not spoken to a player or an official that actually likes him.

Hawks got him in to do a job, that was to fill a spot and help them win premierships. He did it, now he's on his way.

I've heard he was a first class douchebag at school also.

Normally, I'd correct you, but I think Hawks are still in the running for him too.

Which part is incorrect? Because we already offered the elevation deals to both players, and they already accepted them.

We're not delisting a contracted player, and we're not rescinding an already agreed elevation to one of the two elevated rookies. Unless something wildly extraordinary and unexpected happens in the rest of trade week, we're going into the draft with 2 live picks only.

We have recontracted them.

We have not "offered elevation deals", which is a term you've just made up. It was presumed by outsiders they'd be elevated and they may still be, but we retain the option to keep them on the rookie list.

Frankly, keeping at least Rob on the rookie list so we have an extra main draft selection instead of extra rookie selection would make sense. He'd know he'd be upgraded as soon as possible.

Hawthorn should be applauded for their list management strategy for a long time now. Smart drafting when they were putrid (netting guys like Hodge and Mitchell in 2001 and Roughie, Buddy and Lewis in 2004), setting a strong foundation for their club, then smart, tactical trading to keep them a force. Lets hope we can take a leaf out of their book and make this draft a watershed one for us. Not everyday you get a chance to pick up 3 players in the first 30. We shouldn't waste this.

Hawthorn are cheating on the salary cap. Plain and simple. They should not be applauded for anything.

Over the past 5 years they have added Burgoyne, Gibson, Hale, McEvoy, Lake, Frawley and now Carlisle all on serious money (with the exception of Lake who was probably getting paid under the table). They've been added to a team that won the flag in 2008 and had Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Roughead and Franklin already on big money.

"But they lost Buddy". Yeah they did, then they added at least $1 million in players (Frawley and McEvoy) to replace him. And that's before Carlisle's $700k.

We need to admit to ourselves that the cap is broken and has been for years.

We have 9, 13, 28, 32 and 71, and we're currently only going to be using 9 and 13 as live selections. I would hope we're planning on upgrades
If we land both Seedsman & Hampton, losing Kerridge & Wright in the process, then we'll have 2 live picks. Both should be inside the top-15, possibly the top-10.

they probably secretley own Country Club Casino in Launceston, Crown in Melbourne oh and the Tassie government looks after them better than they do our own bloody roads or football competitions

no risk. big call.

so all trades can now be judged against the risk free trade of Lake.

so we ca establish the measure what make him risk free.

the amount of games? his age? his injury profile his attitude?

I'm curious, but excited at the prospect of developing a risk analysis tool.

using what they already had, how would *you* describe the risks?

I think you're way off the mark here.

Half of those players didn't come over for anything like the money you're suggesting; Frawley and McEvoy being the prime example.

Or they are a well run football club?

"elevation deals"

Is a term I made up because it's quicker to type than "we have confirmed with them our intent to elevate them to the senior list during the national draft, and have presented contract terms to their managers, which have been agreed upon".

The language used was the same as the language used in all of our other recent permanent promotion to the senior list.

I don't know if it is still the case but isn't every club required to have at least 3 picks in the draft?
They are, but rookie upgrades count towards that total. Adelaide will be upgrading ROB and Kelly, so we only require 1 "live" selection. We will probably only take 2 or 3, depending on trades currently in progress (Hampton, Seedsman in, Kerridge out, Wright delisted).

Language that wasn't used in our report.
