That's one of the better ones but I fee St Kilda might be giving up too much.

They get Freeman (via next year's second), a first rounder from Sydney & Buckets. They're getting a lot.

We could kick 45 over to them if it was really that much of a sticking point.

Of course they wouldn't. I mean, they are only getting Carlisle, Freeman, maintaining a presence in the 1st round of the draft AND getting a sought-after F/S player nominate them as his preference. And all for pick 5 and a couple of 2nd rounders.

I'm sure they could flick Hickey and Ross over to someone for sufficient points to get Rice, seeing as they were supposedly good enough players to cover the Carlisle deal, just not good enough for them somehow.

Unreal.

Well if saints need points for rice they can hand pick 14 to EFC and take 24&25...with a later swap to even it out...

How typical St Kilda can't even afford rice...

HAWTHORN would be prepared to restructure its player payments to fit in Jake Carlisle as Essendon stands firm on its trade demands.

The Herald Sun has confirmed Hawthorn has room to accommodate Carlisle in its salary cap with some manoeuvring of other deals, after the retirements of veterans Brian Lake and David Hale.

Unless Essendon buckles, Carlisle will have to reconsider joining Hawthorn or entering the preseason draft, where Carlton could snaffle the big man with pick No.1.

The impasse threatens to leave Carlisle in limbo leading up the 2pm trade deadline on Thursday.

St Kilda is set to secure injury-plagued Collingwood midfielder Nathan Freeman in exchange for a second-round pick from next year’s draft.

The deal is expected to be finalised this morning, adding some much-needed pace to the Saints’ youthful midfield.

On Monday, Essendon sent ruckman Jonathan Giles and pick No.62 to West Coast for pick No.57.

Carlisle’s preference is to join St Kilda and does not want to go back on his word after agreeing to join the rebuilding club on a lucrative, long-term contract.

St Kilda confirmed it was in talks with the Bombers and remained confident of landing Carlisle, adding a prime 24-year-old tall to its back half line.

One theory is that the Saints will hand over pick No.5 and receive some later-round selections back from the Bombers, eventually satisfying both parties.

The Bombers are happy to do a deal with Hawthorn in exchange for picks No.15 and No.18.

Essendon has said it will trade Carlisle to the Saints for pick No.5, but St Kilda has been unwilling to part with its top choice unless it involves getting an earlier selection back from another club.

The Bombers ruled out accepting Port Adelaide’s pick No.10 in a multi-club deal involving Charlie Dixon’s move from Gold Coast to Port Adelaide.

St Kilda remains in the box seat to land the swingman, if it parts with pick No.5.

Freeman, 20, has been plagued by hamstring injuries which have sidelined by the speedster for the past two years, but he is primed to begin pre-season training on time.

That's interesting. You would think if Clarkson has already spoken to Carlisle and got the message that it's Saints or PSD then they would have walked away by now........oh.......unless......is this why Dodoro is so confident?

It just seems like the Saints are too focused on positioning themselves post trade and not concentrating on simply Carlisle. i.e what is he worth...just like the Hawks have done. Crazy stuff! Saints are going to stuff this up for themselves and walk Jake straight into Waverly.

This wouldn't work for the Swans. You can only use the amount of live picks you have in the draft for academy points. Can't go past that, so a club couldn't stock pile low draft picks.

I doubt we would be able to use 63, or even a 40+ pick for that matter.
 
I think the StKilda board must be full of either dodgy salesmen, Conmen, scammers or wives.
Because the typical argument is for Essendon to take what we are given because we "have no choice" ie PSD

We just want a fair deal.

Yeah have to use the picks in order - getting 23 & 25 from EFC for pick 14 with some exchange(s) in the later rounds could work though.
