List Mgmt. 2015 Draft. Rookie Draft on Friday

Clayton obviously has good contacts at Coburg so maybe that Hartley would be a good prospect.

I have previously talked up Mitch Brown no end and would need to use pick 29 if we were to get him before the lower Melbourne clubs use their 3rd rounders.

I also think Ben Cavarra would be worth a rookie spot - A guy I know who's son played with both Cavarra and Petracca at Eastern Rangers told me 2 things:

1. Petracca was a gun (before anyone rated him a top 10 pick)
2. Could not understand how Cavarra could not be drafted - he's a leader and has dominated wherever he goes. Obviously his size and disposal must have held him back but this guy is a pure footballer who's unwavering commitment to his craft means he finds a way to make a difference as his CV suggests

This is the best mock I have seen for our needs.
Knightmare has Francis coming to us at 6. He then has Mitchell Hibberd coming to us at 16. Now trying to pick who is going to go 16 in this draft is nearly impossible as has been evidenced by the wide variety of players that have been touted to come here. What is exciting about Knightmare's draft is that if say, Hawthorn pick up Hibberd before us, there is a wide variety of class all around our pick that we could very well snaffle.
Ryan Burton is tipped to go lower, so he is the one I would pick but there is also Balic, Tucker, Bonner, Collins and Partington all within three or four of our pick 16.
It is uncertain which way Clayton will go with this pick and it largely depends on who we get with pick 6, but if we end up with Francis, Hibberd could release KK onto a wing or maybe Hibberd could be the tall wingman we have never had. Burton is the multifaceted fwd we have never really had. Collins looks like he could slot in for Thompson or May should they go down immediately. Balic, Tucker and Bonner all seem like class mid's which you can never have enough of and there is also Ben Mackay who could develop (or not) into a dominant KPP.
Overall, I am more excited about our draft situation then I was a fortnight ago.
I would be very surprised if Mitchell Hibberd goes that late in the draft. It seems to me that every man and his dog are wanting big-bodied, tall midfielders (Fyfe, Bontempelli, Cripps).

Mind you, Hawthorn still have Angus Litherland in the background, and I would be surprised if there haven't been talks about turning him into a midfielder - if you watch his games, the Hawks play him in defence as a role-player, but he seems to shine more as a tall, speedy, big-bodied on-baller. I can see them passing on Hibberd simply due to having a player that can fill that role already in their ranks.

Who do you think smashed the beep and the 3k time trial that wowed the Suns camp?

I instantly thought Mitch Hibberd given he was top 5 in the combine in both those tests, but when they started talking about him hiring a running expert I didn't think they had any in Tassie ;)

The only other guy they could be talking about is Schonfeld (?) who won both those tests but he is not even rated in any mock drafts I've seen.

Maybe, but his speed and agility aren't really questionable. Sheehan did say Hibberd interviewed really well at the combine and impressed with his professionalism so maybe it was him though. He definitely has a lot of desire to overcome those injuries and never give up on his dream to play AFL.

We do have running experts. He probably hire Jack Hale :D

Not sure I totally agree with you there Ben, but I want to agree! Would be great if we could get him at 16 instead. There are many mocks that have him going lower than 16 so we might be a chance.
Francis and Burton = Happy Greendogg!

On last years talent he'd be top 5
If he conitinued progressing would go top 3
His I jury's definitely hurt his draft stock
But 3years into his AFL career whoever picks him up will be laughing the asses off for the next 10 years..

You could well be right Ben but there is a lot of "if's". you could probably make that many if's about the top 20 talents. Hence why in my opinion, 16 might just be the spot for him. Drafting doesn't just revolve around pure talent though, it is combined with whatever the club needs and I reckon Francis is just what we need. However, Burton is just what we need too, we definitely won't get Francis at 16 but we might just get Burton.
6 is too high for Burton, especially if Francis is on the board. However, I am often wrong, just ask my wife.

Didn't mind burning that bloke on his own in the goal square at the end of these highlights

Good article

Would be torn on taking him at 6... lot of pros and cons

Pros

Has confidence / self belief/ arrogance that the best forwards have
Definitely have a spot on our list for 3rd tall forward with X factor
Has played seniors at such a young age
25% chance he becomes a star of the comp
Wouldn't think Adelaide will let him go past pick 13

Cons

Strong family ties and strong ties to Crows = flight risk
Outgoing, cocky and been the best all his life - probably would love to strut around Adelaide as the big man in town = flight risk
75% he flames out and is off an AFL list in 5 years - might be all or nothing for this kid
Jack Bowes who we are getting next year sounds like he plays that 3rd forward role
Will he recover from the injury to be the player he was going to be

Sort of balls out decision that can make or break you as a recruiter if you take him at 6. Would be easy sell to Crows supporters if they rolled the dice on him at 13.

I can see you point.. But
Francis has the same ties to S.A
Unless we're after someone different all together

Problem is all the mock drafts having him going to Adelaide at pick 11 or whatever they have.
You can only use what picks you have.
Supposedly Francis wants to stay in S.A so unsure how keen Claytons would be on him if available at 6
Burton may also want to stay in Adelaide, so many permultations, glad it's not me making these decisions. I reckon you got to back yourself in re: perceived flight risks. For all our problems this year, we haven't had many guys wanna go back to their home state that have harmed us. Josh Caddy, but that could have happened to any team. It's strange actually because our facilities are terrible and our culture has problems but most want to stay, this should only improve as said facilities shed their shed like appearance (that was for you exxy) and we start winning.
I want to go all in for Francis and make him a Gold Coaster. (hopefully Burton too).
