Just how high profile is Hird now? (Legit question, i dont track gossip mags or most MSM). Now that he is not an AFL coach does anyone really care about him? Maybe hell get some attention when the WADA decision is announced, but other than that...

Of course he is. Instantly recognisable to football and non football people, he has a huge public profile.

I'll take your word for it. I find it surprising that people would care that much about a former player/coach when neither he or his wife are really in the 'public eye' any more. Strange, strange world... :)

Suspensions are backdated 3 years already so pointless

Why did players take provisional suspensions at the end of 2014 ? of course it counts.

Intresting that they are pursuing this. Surely AFL is the responsible body. Also any time a player is hurt on field AFL has breached their requirements to provide a safe workplace. Anyway i think its bullshit

Meh, do the crime and all that..... we ran a shitty supplement program that we were unable to categorically prove was not illegal or not harmful.

We deserve the punishment. Take it and move on.

Who is the players' employer? I thought it was the AFL, but if so it makes no sense that WorkCover prosecute Essendon. I doubt an employer can delegate responsibility for employee safety, so I was probably wrong.

Both are the employer, according to contract (and the courts).

Yep, though I will say I can't see any significant fines being added to this since we've already paid 2 million for the same breach (poor governance, though of course under the always welcome moniker of bringing the game into disrepute) in 2013.

And Worksafe is well known to not pursue claims above and beyond those already inflicted.
