How is your team tracking?

Who are the standouts?

Who has a new role?

How many are on the track?

Any new focuses?

How are the players and coaches going in their quest for preseason cliches?

For West Coast:
- Redden, Sheed and Schofield won't be with the main group until January. Numbers very good overall. Cavka and Waterman out long-term.
- Tommy Lamb has won the award for off-season bulk up.
- we're apparently just tweaking things from last year.
- Jetta has suggested that our game plan is much more complex than Sydney's.
- Giles has been lied to (has been told that there is a spot for him Round 1 if he impresses in the off-season).
- we're short on cliches, no reports of biggest/best/hardest preseason ever.
- limited reports so no idea of changes to player roles. Apparently we're still unsure what role Gov will play next year.

"Player X has had the best pre season of his career and will have a huge (insert year here)- every coach

Morabito is flying on the track, Weller has bulked up more than anyone. Bennell struggling with calf issues.

New recruits Tom Bell and Ryan Bastinac are training well especially in endurance running (one of the main focuses this year). Gardiner, Beams and McGrath are set to comeback into full training after the Christmas break. Draftees are settling in well, and several 2-4th year players look to be in the best conditions, especially within the likes of Nick Robertson who is training the house down.

the lions have a new head of conditioning in damian austin ex swans.
i have been to a few training sessions, they are doing a lot more running, austin said in a recent interview between 8 to 13 km every session. the standouts in the running have been tom bell, ryan bastinac, mitch robinson, nick robertson. i think a bit concerning that 3 new recruits are among the standouts doesn't say a lot for previous training set ups. other points i have noticed.
1. josh schache- never seems to miss a set shot at training.
2. rhys matheison- team doing a fair bit of contested ball work, he looks very impressive getting ball out of congestion.
3. allen christensen- looks in fantastic shape, and is a leader on the field in drills etc.
4. craig lambert- has probably along with damian austin been our best off season recruits. lambert's off field stuff has been fantastic, just one example, he hosted a weekend get together for 1st and 2nd year players families recently. plenty about this on lions.com.

overall impression is that nearly all players look fitter/leaner than they have been in the past.

Isn't he the new singer of Queen?

We're apparently relatively healthy compared to this time in recent years, with most presumably in full training or thereabouts. Billings and Freeman a couple of exceptions who are not due to start full training until after Christmas, as they are eased into their preseasons. Freeman had a minor setback last week, but was due to start running again by yesterday, so it's probably only set him back by a couple of weeks and he can make some of that up over Christmas.

Hasn't really been any talk about who is leading the way on the track from an individual POV (although those in their 2nd and 3rd years are apparently "making a statement"), but with someone new in charge of our fitness this year there is apparently more of an emphasis on running this preseason.

In recent years we've done a 2km time trial, but on the first day back this preseason the young ones (those in their 1st-5th years) were sent out on a 3km one instead and they busted a gut doing that, only to arrive back to the surprise news that they would go back out and follow it up with a 2km one, just to give them an idea of what to look forward to for the rest of the preseason! Newnes won them, as per usual.

At the dogs Tom Boyd has slimmed down, Bailey Dale has bulked up, Matt Boyd is still a fitness freak and Liberatore looks good early.

Bontempelli hasn't trained yet and looks worrying

As for new positions/roles, Riewoldt has been over in the US and also with the Australian side who took on Ireland, but has apparently been running more than he has in recent years and has or is expected to shed a bit of bulk, presumably in anticipation of playing up the field more next season. A couple of our best performances this year were with Nick playing on the wing and there's a fair chance we'll see a fair bit more of that sort of thing in 2016 and beyond.

Nakia Cockatoo apparently looks big and strong and has dramatically improved his running. The fact he didn't have a pre season last year has me very excited.
Joel Selwood has a dodgy foot, but the last time he missed a chunck of pre season he nearly won a Brownlow. Not too worried.
