Would you want Collingwood flag chances to decrease so we can pay for a plastic female franchise to wear our colours?

It's not like the girls won't be able to play if Collingwood don't buy a license.

Of course if a female team can financially supporter themselves (mostly) then it would be silly not to have a dip and see how it goes.

Play it in summer to give the footy nuts some AFL to watch in the off season and it could be a success. I would watch a few Womens matches I'm dying for footy in December/Jan

I would like us to have a women's team. I have two daughters who so far have showed little interest in footy because they see it as a sport for men. As for our flag chances I don't see how they would be decreased by having a women's team.

Well I guess I will have to just accept that my daughters will barrack for the Doggies then.

I can only speak about my own situation but my daughters show more interest in sports that women take part in. We live in Footscray so I will no doubt be taking them to watch the local women's side. Would much prefer to be taking them the Victoria Park though.

I'd say we're behind quite a few clubs in this instance. I know the Geelong team is up and running and they will be very strong as of next year.

That's there senior AFL team... easy mistake to make I know!

Is there actually any money to be made in Women's footy? This may be a reason why the club isn't pushing harder for a license, it seems like a lot of resources will be needed to be put into the team without much reward.

Unless I'm mistaken the Collingwood Football Club is a not-for-profit organisation so all money's earned need to be ploughed back into the club. Salary cap now in place for players and coaching staff. Have to spend the surpluses somewhere.

I wouldn't mind a women's team but I was just stating why the club may not be active in pursuing a licence. I don't think it would bring in many supporters though, since a women's league would probably be a similar size to the VFL and girls that follow football will still support the male comp. However, I guess another Collingwood team to support isn't a bad thing.

Let's be real here, a women's AFL league isn't going to get a huge support.. It will be much smaller than the VFL, it isn't going to get a generation of young girls to start following AFL... And I think the girls who are interested in footy are following it already.

The majority of the small viewerbase would be males anyway imo, not young girls looking for an AFL team to support.

Yeah okay, lets all just crawl back into our caves then. Times change and we either accept change and move forward or fall behind. I'm sure they were saying exactly the same about women's cricket yet it's exposure and acceptance grows year by year. Will women's footy ever challenge the men's game, probably not but I'd certainly be interested to see a few games, particularly if they were scheduled as double headers with the VFL games.
