Docherty is as good a chance as any of the unproven 400-500k group to make the jump to premo Def status.
(Define premo as you wish, but for arguments sake, I'd consider 95+ a premo defender). I'm not considering the guys who have been there before as part of this discussion (eg. Bartel), but feel free to if you like.

I've currently got Docherty in my team and think he will improve on the 88 average of last year. Like the rest of the players in the 400-500k price range he certainly has a risk but from that group I think he, yeo and KK are the ones most likely to go 90+.
I had Docherty last year, very consistent 85-90+ player..
I rate KK very highly - (as most would know by now lol)
I seriously reckon the extra 20k for Laird would be worth it, which is why I have both anchored with Heater & McVeigh FWIW

I'm personally running a four man backline of Laird, KK, Bartel and Smith plus rookies at this stage. The other three I'm looking at are Docherty, MacMillan and Yeo
Yeo is a no brainer if he looks like he will play midfield for most of the year, but at this stage I'm yet to be convinced he will
MacMillan has a lot of upside but limited history at a premo level. I probably don't quite have the guts to pick him
That leaves Docherty as probably my next in if I decide to change things up. Has had a big preseason by all reports and should kick on I think. I just like Laird and KK a little more. I reckon they've got a touch more upside. I also like Bartel in the backline as a relatively safe option. I reckon he's a minumum 90 average

Already had his break out year increasing his average by 25 ppg.
Cant see him averaging more than 90-92.

I'm trying to be an unbias eagles fan but I like yeo out of the lot as stated earlier his scores where a lot better when not in the backline and with McKenzie brown and even jetta coming in I can't see yeo playing down there much . I believe he will be used predominantly through the mids as eagles don't really have another tall big bodied mid he also has breakaway pace that only shuey has in the eagles mid group. I see the eagles starting mids being nic Nat shuey priddis and yeo .
I know many have been burnt by Daniel Rich in the past and have sworn to never go near him again, but his defender eligibility status (has he ever qualified as anything but a midfielder in his career?) has to bring him into consideration. Ignoring his 2014 season average based on it being only 3 games, he's averaged 85.3 in the last 5 seasons. He's primed for a career best season. Will turn 26 this year, time for him to get his shit together and put together a solid season and live up to some of that potential. All he has to do is average 92+ and he's a premium. I'm going to make up some crap about last year being the first year back from a significant injury and so that's why his average was the worst since his 2nd season. I think he'll be well and truly over any injuries and will put in a very solid 90+ (minimum) season.
The only way is up for a Brisbane team which I think has underperformed considering the quality of a bunch of their players. This means more points for Rich. As the saying goes around here 'will have to watch him in the NAB'.

The guys on your forum seem to all strongly share your views, makes sense to me too. Will watch NAB but he's looking pretty comfortable in my lineup

I can't fit him in my side unfortunately. I think this year You can afford to start without him as there are so many other options. I just hope he doesn't bolt out of the blocks. He hasn't averaged less than 90 since 2005 so he is probably going to be in the best 6 defenders
Yeah he will definitely be top 6 defenders but I think we will get him at 500k as an upgrade target.

I'm picking him due to the fact there's a serious lack of lock defenders.
It's relevant but based on his career id say a 100-105 average this year is more likely.
yes & that 100-105 avg is a lock when it comes to defence IMO
Yes I'm paying 600k now but at least I wont have to waste a trade.
You'll have to use a trade to upgrade your D5&6 too so it's not really wasting a trade.
