what I am saying is, it does not matter who out Maj or Brown is a better footballer, but what do we need more a relief ruck or third tall?

Adding Wood as a marking forward muddies the waters further.

Had my usual catch up today and the club doesn't share the views of a few posters on here. I'm just a worry wart is all:)

Exactly!! I'm not potting Brown the forward, shit the guys less than 50 games away from being 'it'

Will play against Carlton and hopefully * as well.

I'd rest Goldy this week, Brown next week and give Maj the 2 games so he's ready when needed later in the season. I think he's capable of playing a significant role and gives us spark, defensive pressure, ruck dominance and is a goal kicker. Has lost heaps of weight and ran out the game well on Sat night after playing on ball most of the night.

Who rucks when Goldy is benched then? I don't think bringing Daw in this year is a possibility.
That's a very good question.. Drew ?
Brad must be toying with the idea of playing Daws.. Haven’t we been down a rotation twice this year & still run the game out? Could Daw's play 5 -7 mins a quarter ?

A reliable shot for goal is our Majak.

Edit: was at work when I managed a quick look at the footage- didn't seem lost or out of position to me. Interested in others thoughts? Haters and non believers need not comment, as we get it, you don't need to rehash the same, " Majak won't make it remarks".

Yes what a mature way to engage in a discussion/debate about the merits of a player being in the side: "anyone who disagrees with my point of view need not comment."

Look pal, I hope Majak proves me wrong and eventually does make it because it would be a tremendous story. Not just for his side of the story, but also for our club sticking by him while he learns the game and develops through the off field issues that he has endured. I'm not saying that these were his fault(aside from the drinking while injured bit) but I reckon there are many teams in the AFL that might have washed their hands of him long ago.

You are entitled to your view that you are virtually certain he will become a champion of the game, just as I am also entitled to opine that I do not think he's demonstrated enough consistency in his performances at either AFL or VFL level over six seasons to suggest this will be the case. Six seasons is a bloody long time, remember. It's the length of Scott's tenure thus far to put it in perspective. Posting a few You Tube clips of his highlights doesn't really prove your argument either. Everyone, including our coaching staff and opposition staff, are fully aware that he can produce unparalleled acts of individual brilliance at times. Equally they are across the fact that it's his consistency and often going missing for large chunks of quarters that is the issue preventing him from being in demand for a regular game at North or any other AFL club. Ultimately, I will continue to back the view of our coaching staff who keep him in the VFL(barring Goldstein getting injured/rested). They know a lot more about football than you or I and are watching him more closely each and every week, as opposed to attending the odd VFL game or watching a You Tube clip.

Ha! Please show me where I stated Daw will be a champion ?

You state he goes missing for large chunks of the game? Which forward currently on our list doesn't?

Benny Brown who's playing some bloody good footy forward averages 12 disposals per match. Yep touches the ball three times a quarter. Would suggest that allows for about 20 minutes per quarter for thumb twiddling.

Drew Petrie- averages 12 as above

Waite averages 17 and is our best forward by a mile.

Nick Riewoldt averages 20 disposals and 11 marks.

I have no issue with your thoughts ,well I probably do but TBH I can't be ****ed wasting my time with negative campaigners! My issue is I'm discussing Majak's latest efforts and you're still running with the 'he won't make it for all these reasons'.

My main question I'd like answered is, why do you need to continue to state he 's not good enough? It's not likely we'll ****ing forget your opinion anytime soon.

As for the way our club has handled Majak, I can't complain. Your insistence that Maj won't get another opportunity elsewhere is wrong. All but last season three- four clubs have enquired about his services.
Anywho I'm engaging a certain button for the first time- so no longer a problem.

get a box man, maybe then I will care about your opinion that you hope is wrong.

We are totally over-reliant on Goldy and his willingness to play injured/hurt/ill.

If he goes down during a game we really have no back-up ruckman at all, unless Maj is sitting on the pine or playing in the forward line.

Is it possible to do a couple of Denis-style rotations so that:

- any 3 of Drew, Ben Brown, Waitey and Maj are in our forward line and the 4th man is on the pine
- when Goldy needs a rest, or is ordered to rest, during a game Maj takes over in the ruck?

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Drew is a spent force as an AFL ruckman and Ben is currently canon fodder in the ruck. There being nobody else, now that Concrete Hands has gone, it's a case of "Majak Daw, come on down."

You're quite brilliant, Naturally North. You really are. Someone disagrees with you and you tell them not to respond and then ignore them.

The fact that you rate Majak as a forward option shows how naïve you are on this matter and most likely football in general. Clearly he is regarded by all at North as a ruckman-forward and not a forward-ruckman. The best football that he has demonstrated is in the ruck. If one those players you listed above(Waite, Brown or Petrie) suffered an injury then Black would come in. Every day of the week.

If Goldstein suffered an injury, then Daw comes in. If Goldstein suffers an injury during a game, then Brown and Petrie would share the ruck load. It's pretty simple and I think our coaches have got this pretty well mapped out. Yes in an ideal world we would have an extra specialist ruck on the ground somehow, but adding an extra tall to our side simply wouldn't work structurally. The balance is fine as it is. Hence we are 7 & 0.

That's spot on and Daw simply doesn't play unless Goldstein is rested or injured.

If Goldstein is not fit he shouldn't play and Daw comes in, if he is fit though then he continues to go one-out which gives us a significant advantage compared to other teams.

It's a definite no from me MrR.

The mid going out of rotations to accommodate 3KPFs and 2 rucks is a far greater loss than the benefit of extra support to Goldstein IMO

Thanks, V2J - I'll take your word for it. I just see the revolving (or is it rotating?) door and every so often one of Goldy or one of the tall forwards goes through it.

It doesn't ease the concern if Goldy goes down early in an important match, especially if the other side has good ruck strength.

That's the amazing thing about the big fella....he simply doesn't go down, early or late in a match. Just ask Dan Currie.

Your suggestion has merit no doubt I just can't see it happening. Scott loves sticking to structures even when not working due to faith in them, and accordingly it seems clear Daw is not a part of that (for the time being at least).

Fact is Goldstein doesn't need anything more than minor help, of which Brown is adequate. Losing a mid rotation for a game just because Goldstein might get injured and/or to accommodate Daw's ruckwork for just 10% of a game doesn't seem a wise choice for mine.

In saying that we are coming up against the * and who knows, Scott might look at something like you suggest - like the talk on changes thread about Dumont, Clarke etc.

I see Daw as moving from being Goldy's understudy to taking Brown's position as forward/relief ruck when Brown takes Petrie or Waite's position as a regular forward once either retires.

The question then becomes when either of them retires, and if at that time Daw is still at the club at all (traded or delisted) and/or whether any of our young tall stocks (e.g Durdin and McKay) have come through by then.

The reduction in stoppages due to the deliberate out of bounds interpretation means that Ben Brown's 2-3 minutes in the ruck per quarter are much less of a liability than last year.

Plus he's a little less stoopid in the ruck this year. My god watching him ruck in 2014-15 was....let's just call it weird.

That's it in a nut shell yes.

McKay is a very special talent. Just needs to get his body right and AFL ready. The talent and game sense are both there with this one, which is the main thing. Let's not forget it's easier to turn a footballer into an athlete, as opposed to the other way round. I have every confidence that he will be playing a key role in our forward line from 2018 and beyond. Black would be next in line for a spot up forward should Drew retire before then.

If Daw plays well for the rest of the year in the VFL, then I reckon we will rookie him again. In the unlikely event of another club pouncing, so be it.

I can see Petrie and Waite going on for at least 2 more years, which means Daw could be 27 or 28 by the time he gets closer to locking down a spot in the forward line.

I hope and pray you are right that those two keep on delivering for two more years!

Yep and that is the conundrum. Daw's manager if he's worth his salt won't allow his client to do that. Interesting times IMO. Lets not beat around Georges Bush, Brown is a liability in the ruck. The poor bugger has zero core strength ( not my words) and we put Goldie back in the ruck when the Saints charged and won their first last quarter of the season.
