Always interested why this is something so commonly thought. We usually talk about how it often takes players 50 games to really learn the ropes of AFL footy and big players/ KPFs take longer

Here is Frost around 50 games, and 50 games where he was given big tasks from day 1 and not eased in, but now he has got a bit of experience we believe he can't improve. Doesn't make sense to me.

My opinion of Frost has changed in the past month, said to my bro he's going down a similar path to Presti. Presti was our biggest spud getting regular games in our spoon year in 1999. In 2000 he was the most improved player in the AFL. Frost's past month has seen rapid improvement. There is hope yet.

I read an interesting article about Keeffe on the AFL website a couple of weeks back.

Something like from 2012-2014 he had 92 one on one contests and only lost 18.5% which ranked him in the top 10 in the AFL...

In 2014, Keeffe made a significant difference to the Magpies' lineup. In the 18 games he played, Collingwood allowed 82.6 points per game and won nine of those contests.

Interestingly, in the three games Keeffe was left in the VFL, the Pies conceded 97.3 points per game and lost two of those matches.

A deeper look at the numbers highlights the positive trajectory Keeffe's career was heading in and the way he fitted snugly into Buckley's side.

From 2012-14, Keeffe defended in 92 one-on-one contests and lost just 18.5 per cent of the time. That ranked him 10th in the competition of the top-100 defenders for contests defended, according to Champion Data.

In 36 matches across three seasons, Keeffe never conceded more than three goals to any opponent.

You make sound like he was on some performance enhancement regime.
Clen is predominantly used for weight loss, something Keefe definitely needs...., unless it is combined with a cocktail of easily detected banned steroids and used long term.
None of which were in either kids system.
Both should have gotten a fine from Police and allowed to live their lives sans the intrusion WADA.
I have no issue with either coming back in form allowing.

That was a hypothesis at the time because neither of them had any other idea how a performance enhancing drug could have made their way into their system (who knew that coke was lined with PED? Not me until I saw this play out those years ago!).

The weird thing here is that Keeffe wasn't going to be used as a defender if the sanction never happened, he was being lined up as the third tall / ruck relief (the role that Gault played for a bit this year and last year, and that Cox currently plays).

I seem to recall a statement was made by the club detailing the fact that both boys realise that the drug got into their system through their illicit drug consumption - I may be wrong though.

Whilst I'm telling a story, I reckon both lads were given their rookie spots to make sure they didn't reveal the other players involved. 12 months later and Robbo breaks his story about our drug culture on the eve of the season. Meanwhile we have two non-playing rookies in the middle of an injury crisis.

The club definitely implied that, not sure anybody has unequivocally made an announcement though

Bottom line its none of our business and did not mitigate the punishment. He still copped his full whack regardless of the circumstances.

Doubters are entitled to doubt and believers can believe. Either way it doesnt change the facts. The facts are the players are two years out of the game and have been passed. It will take a monster effort for either to make successful comebacks but good luck to them. They are as good a chance of any other rookie of making it though. Rookies invariably have a poor hit miss ratio. Worth a punt keeping them.

So he hoped he could cover it up...Shit.."Collingwood player turns out to be human" is never going to be a headline that sells papers.
If, and say only if he was actually taking Clen as part of performance enhancing regiment them you have to look at the entire club.
Where does that leave you?
Do you stop following just Collingwood or the whole game?

WADA/ASADA paint every human with the same brush the color they decide and solely on the basis of dangers they concoct.
They are dictators of their own morality. Nothing more and nothing less.

The weird thing here is that Keeffe wasn't going to be used as a defender if the sanction never happened, he was being lined up as the third tall / ruck relief (the role that Gault played for a bit this year and last year, and that Cox currently plays).

I thought he had a fair bit going for him as a key defender (especially in his earlier years), but when played up forward he seemed to have no idea. I think he played there in the 2013 finals loss to Port Adelaide and struggled badly, so I was dismayed at the idea that they were planning on playing him in the role you've outlined.

Assuming he's still on our list next season he will be well worth watching to see what he has to offer. I think many people on here (including me) felt he was struggling when last playing (Champion Data obviously don't see it that way), so it will be a remarkable effort for him to play good football again after two years on the sidelines.

The fact they got 2 year bans based on that fact just goes to show what a totally beat up the Essendon saga really was.
The hype created by the ACC and then ASADA should have warranted life bans for every player and official.

I think that Hird and the Essendon PR machine added fuel from the oil fields of Iran and Iraq combined, that created free popcorn for all non essendon footy followers falling from the sky to enjoy that lasted for three years. Keeffe and Thomas, the media build up burnt out slowly in the middle of the Simpson Desert, with no oxygen for it to breathe.

To keep Keefe, I'm happy enough going through the two years.
If it works great. If not, not.
I don't fuss too much re injuries, if we over relying on rookies then our injuries are so bad than not much can save the season, in my view.

"Send a message to the playing group" is a really nauseatingly overused and much abuse phrase, which when you think of it should be replaced by "get the players to conform to my thinking" in most posts.
