Bolton so unlucky, did absolutely everything right, you just can't plan for a freakn second army coming out of nowhere like Gandalf and the Riders of Rohan.

But maybe he underestimated Sansa?

As far as medieval battle scenes go, that's the best I've ever seen. Brilliant, so well directed, and all those extras didn't feel like extras to me - I was convinced. Superb.

The giant was MVP.

You know what the Wars of the Roses was renowned for? High casualties amongst the nobility. We've racked up half a dozen kings so far, plus a Prince, three (or four, if you double up with King Robb) Wardens of the North, the heads of two major houses, two Lords Commander of the Night's Watch, and christ knows how many from other minor houses, and that's from a brief, likely inaccurate, count. Normally these dudes go into battle and sit on their horses and ride away if shit gets real Ramsay style, or if the worst happens they'll probably just get ransomed.

So pumped after watching that. Was cheering at the end all through Ramsay being eaten alive by his own mutts.

Shame there's only 1 more left this season.

I enjoyed Ramsay's demise, but I would have liked it more if it were Theon who tortured him. Was riding every blow from Snow, though. Take that you sadistic prick!

Definitely in the top 3 episodes for mine.

I was convinced little finger would rock up with the Knights of the vale to save the day before the battle started but as tormund was getting his face caved in I started to fear that this show was going to **** the Starks again and I was wrong

i wanted to see the end of the bolton army in the field. shame we didnt see it.

Pretty good episode.....can't say it's as good as Hardhome though. We all sorta knew that Little Finger's army would come in to save the day. Hardhome on the other hand caught me off guard.

Doing a rewatch.

Getting strong feminism vibes. Watching Sansa in the war room with the men and her face is saying "these guys should be asking me what I know about the guy and his forces"

Meanwhile Yara and Danaerys are keen to scissor and overthrow the entire seven kingdoms. If they get to the North and meet Queen Sansa preparing to fight the Others, fair chance they will be cool with her.

Queen of Thorns still runs the Reach, Mace or no.

And the Bad Pussy sisters are running Dorne.

And Arya is about to go on a murder spree of all the highborn lords and ladies she can find.

Ok, I'm gunna post something now that isn't really a spoiler from the books. But it IS a spoiler from "The world of Ice and Fire" which is a GRRM sanctioned publication that gives heaps of background info on the world the books are set in. Also, HBO have made mini movies of a lot of this stuff (animated ones) that were on their website. So whilst it isn't spoiling the main series, and has no direct relevance to the main plot, it isn't something that has aired (or ever will) so I'll put it in tags.

I'm posting it because I think a lot of people here enjoy knowing some of the background lore about the various houses and what makes them unique etc.

I believe that's a fair warning, and like I said I'll tag it even though it isnt specifically spoiler stuff. If anyone enjoys it I'm happy to do some more:

The old Starks Kings were so sadistic it would make the Boltons blush. There was one instance where an army from Essos (made of Andals, the Starks are of the 'First Men' to settle Westeros about 10k years ago) landed in the North and started ransacking the place. The Stark King Theon the Hungry Wolf at the time routed them. Then he nailed their king to the front of his ship and sailed all the way to Andalos (in Essos) and burned down all their septs and villages, then he took the bodies home and lined the coast of the North with crucified Andals

And throughout the ancient history period, the Starks have led The North in war against the wildlings multiple times, and against practically ever major kingdom of Westeros. At one point a popular Targaryen King was assassinated by his own brother, so Cregan Stark took his army south, single handedly deposed a shitty King, took over KL, executed everyone involved in the assassination, picked a new King, then left.

Oh and they're the only major House still ethnically "First Men". Everyone else got assimilated by the Andals via being conquered. Not the Starks. And they've had Winterfell for 10,000 years, compared to say The Tyrells and Lannisters who have had theirs since the Targaryens arrived in Westeros about 1,000 years ago, at most.

But the whole thing of them being Wolves isnt just a spiritual/style thing either. They weren't as big on torture as the Boltons, but they are more savage than anyone else and love desecreating corpses, even eating them at times

A Song of Ice and Fire?

Going from the overarching title being A Song of Ice and Fire I think the end game will be a face off against the white walkers involving the dragons. Dany then becomes critical to that and given the hints during this series as to Jon's father being someone other than Ned plus him being brought back from the dead, Jon is also an integral part of what's to come.

Those two are the only characters that I see as indispensable prior to the very end which probably explains why so much time as being devoted to their respective story arcs even when those stories seemed to be plodding along at times

To take on the white walkers Jon and Dany will somehow have to bring the seven kingdoms of Westeros together and there'll be plenty of casualties along the way until that happens

Can also see Yara and Dany getting it on with the sand sisters from Dorne at some point next season as well
