My first attempt at a "poll" for a while.
Somehow, I don't Think I got it quite right.
Probably should have been "Who do you think???"
Oh well....carry on I suppose
Ah, my favourite time of year is the lead in to the draft to hear the pontifications of The List Mangler.i voted for terry wallace
Great post - not sure why he's not rated higher.I don't feel comfortable writing about who should take over from Leppa until he is officially gone but now that we have a thread up about it i guess its open slather.
So a name no one has mentioned as far as i am aware is John Blakey. Ex royboy who won Premierships with Nth Melb in 96 and 99. He coached at the Lions as one of Lethal's assistants from 2003 -2006. So he has tasted success at the club in 2003. He also coached the club for 1 home and away game when Lethal was unavailable. He joined the Swans at the end of 2006 and has been their ever since. From what i can find he has coached both the forward line and the back line and is now head of development. If one club can be praised for its development of players it is Sydney.
So here we have a guy who has a Lions background as a player with Fitzroy (135 games) spent 4 years with the club being an assistant including the 2003 Premiership. Has now had 10 years at the Swans doing almost every role. 14 years is a decent apprenticeship i would have thought? I reckon but can't be certain he may have coached the Swans in a pre season game or two.
Now the big questions are would he be interested? Would he be a good head coach or would he a better person to have as your main assistant coach to say a Stewie Dew?
For me John Blakey should be head hunted. He should be one of the first people we interview for the job if he is interested. Dew is another i think we need to look at closely. Comes with big wraps and has been a major player like Blakey in the Swans development and success.

Wont be Brad Scott. Spoke to my mate who is a mad Roos supporter and provides $$$ to the club. States the club is more than happy with him.We can't have another coach who has been involved with the club. We need to have one that has no ties with the club. Would also prefer a coach that isn't a newbie either, we need an experienced coach. Brett Ratten is my pick, didn't do too bad in Carlton plus has been assistant for the Hawks for a while. We need a coach who knows what it takes to rise the ladder and most of them come from assistants/coaches from successful clubs.
Question - Why can't we have another Lion as head coach? This gets trotted out a lot and I'm curious as to why?
Do people perceive that we are too soft on ex players? Based on merits if it came down to it, I would have a coach who understands our landscape because of experience, and who will settle in and adapt far quicker to our circumstances than a Victorian who's never seen a rugby league game before.
Given what we did to Voss and may do to Leppa I can't see much evidence we're too easy on ex's...
