Anyone else catch 30 minute thrillers last night? It was the 'Salem game' from 2014. Dunn played a blinder at full back and Kent kicked one of my favourite goals in recent memory to give us the lead. Bloody Zaharakis nearly pinched it single-handedly.

The score was 60-48 at three quarter time. Nowadays I'd have full faith in us mowing that deficit down in a couple of minutes, back then it was a huge effort.

Oh and Milkshakes was subbed out at three quarter time and Hibberd had a few fumbles at critical stages. Just sayin, just sayin...

I had completely given up at half time of that game, almost changed the channel
Couldn't have 2 more opposite halves, Kents goal was incredible and Salems kick was as good as I've felt watching melbourne

A key moment that was missed was Daniel Cross going back with the flight and getting cleaned up.. **** I loved crossy

I watched that game at home, and I had a guest who was a rabid Essendon supporter over. I was cooking Thai food.

He was in such a shit mood he practically choked on his green curry. Awesome day.
Maybe you're just a crap cook?

I remember being at the ground standing behind the seats at the Punt Road end and thinking that we couldn't have played much worse in the first quarter. Thought the same in the second quarter too but thought that they still hadn't put us away. Half time came though and I literally walked out of the gates convincing myself I had better things to do than watch us kick 3 goals in a half and watch essendon kick 5.12 in a half. Thought we would get steamrolled. So I walked out, got down the steps towards richmond train station and MFC guilt took over. Little Homer Simpson-style devil voice in my head saying 'you'll won't be able to go to the footy for 6 months after the season is over and you're leaving a live game?'

Glad I went back actually

I was convinced Kent was going to miss that goal, but he buried it. Was the day I converted to the church of KENT.

As usual for Dees/Dons clashes, I went with a bunch of mates who support Essendon. I was expecting us to get belted after the 1st quarter, and even in the 3rd when we started coming back from 33 down I didn't believe we could do it. Wasn't until Bellchambers missed from the tip of the square I literally turned to one of my mates and said 'OK thats enough, we're going to win now you've pissed away this many chances'. Walking out of the ground that night was probably the best I've felt watching us play in my short lifetime.

Good to hear the date went well :thumbsu:

Best MFC game I've ever seen live. There was hugging and tears in the members. I may have kissed people.

Dom Tyson is the real hero of that game IMO - as soon as he starts winning the ball at the stoppages we start coming back in the second half.

How they can justify that deliberate against Gawn I have no ******* idea
Hayden Kennedy can EAD.
"Did the player do everything in his power to keep the ball in"
He missed a bloody handball.
I almost think the Tyson one is worse. How can they even have been sure Darling didn't get a hand in and hit the ball towards the line? I watched it over and over and I can't tell so how the hell do you ping Tyson? Wet, slippery, 2 blokes contesting so let's ping the bloke the crowd want pinged.
The least Kennedy could do is wear the error. The continual justification of these sh*t decisions is doing my head in.

I didn't like the Tyson one, but I thought from what the umpire could have seen, I can understand the decision. The Gawn one was a flat out joke though.

Both were wrong decisions and Kennedy should say that otherwise don't bother with the ridiculous segment if he's going to just give everything the tick of approval.

If they were correct decisions then Hurn should have been penalised 3 times earlier in the game for not attempting to keep the ball in play!

Yeah agree.
Unfortunately though, you couldn't hear our fans calling for the free.

I hate the segment. It's purely a response to general unrest that there is no transparency in umpiring - but it totally doesn't work because its pretty clear it is designed to invent retrospective explanations to justify every umpiring decisions, no matter how strange.

I thought the same with Darling. I was at the game and originally thought Darling hit it. As you say, I have watched it a heap of times and I can't tell who actually does to be honest.

I would have penalised Darling for dangerously sliding into Doms legs :straining:

If you listen to what Kennedy doesn't say, I think it becomes a bit clearer. Says he's comfortable with the thought process of the umpires in paying them, but he doesn't actually say they're correct.

All i will say for them, when you watch them a bunch of times in slow motion from a few different angles, they're very tough ... when you watched them live in real time for the first time, they look pretty deliberate. That's what Kennedy is getting at, there are reasons why they're paid, but when you look at them a couple of times, they're stiff.

I didn't see the game but saw the Tyson one tonight on Talking Footy. Looked pretty deliberate to me. He wasn't trying to pick it up. It was s knock to the boundary. There could have been lots the same the other way (sounds like Hurn did it a few times) but I reckon Tyson's was deliberate and should be called every time.
