Its an interesting proposition, if we were to go backwards and finish last in 2017... Would Brendan Bolton be able to handle the pressure and would the knives be out..

I wouldn't expect us to go backwards, I would suggest more a year of consolidation of playing style, improved team performance but a similar win ratio of 7/ 8 wins for the year. With a jump into double digit wins in 2018 and pushing for top 8. That's how I see it anyway.

It would want to be an all time defense given the amount of ball that will be coming their way. Marchbank shares a broadly similar skill set to Plowman and Weitering. A nice get for sure, but a luxury we can ill afford.

If the GWS trade goes as speculated, that will be three years and counting since we have invested in elite midfield talent.

Agree with this, we need stacks more mids.. A look at our list on footywire which list positions.. We have 13 players listed as mids (which includes players like Thomas, Sumner, Tutt. DVR) and we have 6 ruckmen.. http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/tp-carlton-blues

Let's see what late next year may look like........I know this means nothing, but just a trial.

Backline:
Simpson Rowe Plowman
Docherty Marchbank Byrne..........I know, the knee. Tuohy to be traded. Simpson has at least 2 years left. Fingers crossed we hang onto Sheehan.

Forward-line:
CCurnow Weitering Sumner
Silvagni Casboult Wright..............Not earth shattering at this point in time, but plenty of scope for development. McKay to slot in later.

Next year is even more about development than this year was.
This year we learned what we needed to....next year we have to seed those learnings.

Weitering is going to go forward..........I think :)

Lets see how things go over the trade period... if we can bring in some good mids who are composed and can kick... I would have us jumping as high as 9th :)

In the VFL maybe, no way in the AFL, that's just crazy talk and unrealistic. We still have trouble kicking goals, its gonna take a lot more than good mids with good kicking skills, and it certainly can't be rectified over one draft period, Cuningham looks decent from what i saw of him, but it probably won't be till at least 2018 before he is a best 22 player.

We need time and patience, you're going to be bitterly disappointed if you go into next season expecting we'll finish 1 game out of the 8 (or thereabouts)

Given we have such an interest in Marchbank, we have to at least consider that there's a very good reason for that to be the case........but I don't think that the reason would be; "Let's stack our backline to the hilt at the expense of other areas of the ground"

I.

I thought the same about Kristian Jaksch and had the same concerns. Its actually quite alarming how similar they are, both had been on GWS list for 2 years and played 7 unimpressive games. Although Marchbanks NEAFL stats look more impressive than KJs did.

If Stewart comes for chips he surely replaces Casboult until McKay is ready ?

2 bits of "info" or "gossip" i got told today. Take it or leave it only passing on.

Graham and Everitt to Suns for any early 2nd rounder

Marchbank Pickett and a late 2016 1st rounder for Pick 5

After how unsuccessful a similar deal was in 2014 I very highly doubt we would do that. Want to keep 5, going to get a very good player at this pick

Cripps is going to have his work cut out that's for sure. :p

I just see Weitering playing forward.
With Docherty, Plowman, Byrne and possibly Marchbank down back and that we're resolute in playing a team defence, we may not need Weitering at full-back as much as we think we may.

The guy is an aerobic beast, a leader, has a straight kick and reads the ball as well as anyone.......I just see him as forward, going.....forward.
I can't see it Harks. Has the hands to be a good forward, not sure he has the burst of speed to be a great forward.

Plus I'd be loathe to lose his rare talent in defence.

Just regarding Tuohy, there's not a lot of really good small defenders in the AFL, so that does inflate his value. Having said that, I only see him being worth 11 if we give a second rounder back.
