Seems like the week break hurt Glenorchy. Still think the are a chance, but losing the home grand final makes it tough.
Well done Bombers have to be called September specialist

AFL Tasmania's Future of Tasmaniam Football Forum commences today in Launceston and concludes tomorrow. Anyone keen to predict what the end result may look like? I would like to think it delivers more answers than questions but may be wishful thinking

No doubt it will focus on the one thing AFL Tasmania has no say over, AFL matches and the hopeless wish for an AFL team.

Other than that, probably a rebranding, an announcement that a report will be delivered, and nothing of substance regarding the game in the state.

I reckon probably the tas u/23 amateur team.

It's an under 23 jumper. I played in that game that year 09. It was a team made up from ntfl. Ntfa and sfl players. We played adalaide and lost. Tsl players wernt eligible, it was an amateur team. i just took a picture of it next to my actual state jumper but can't post it. Different number colours and where the tfc logo is on the u/23 one there is the number on the state one.

Thanks guys for the information.

Dont forget to add that they wont bother seeking any opinions from club members, supporters or sponsors.

Heaven forbid that the people who pay for the games get to voice an opinion.

Anyway, who's the clown who said that Australian rules is the game of the people?

Bloody idiot:rolleyes:

Listening to Coach Proctor on ABC, seems to indicate they have some injury concerns. Id be surprised if Glenorchy werent a bit sore also, but nobody limped off that I saw.
Will the 4 hour bus trip affect Burnie? Will the travel on friday?

Team of the year announced. Usual queries on a few spots but its all opinion based and hard to line up when its not possible to watch all sides each week. Did the Clarence trio have that good a year ?

In todays Mercury

THE party is almost over for players banking big bucks to play second-tier football with an audited points system and enforced salary cap on the way for all community league clubs.
The inaugural Future of Football Forum in Launceston yesterday agreed it was time to stop lower level clubs from outbidding the premier competition – the Tasmanian State League – in the race for players.
Within two years, the TSL will offer the best pay to players, with a descending capacity in terms of player payments down through the community leagues.
“Imagine it like a waterfall – the top competition pays the most, the second-top competitions pay a bit less and so on down through the competitions,” said AFL Tasmania boss Rob Auld.
“I don’t have a precise dollar value on a player or per week basis other than to say as long as it’s transparent, contracted, enforceable and able to be audited, then a salary cap and points system serves the purpose of a balanced frame work.”
A points system should be in place for every second-tier competition by first bounce next season.
Each club will be allocated a total of 40 points per game, with homegrown players worth one point and the most experienced imports costing the maximum six points.
The aim is to encourage clubs to focus on homegrown product and less on forking out big dollars on recruits.
“The current challenge that clubs and leagues face is sustainability, with the veracity of competition for players,” Auld said. “You end up with an unsustainable economy that clubs continue to feed and you run the risk of driving clubs and leagues into extinction if you let it go ungoverned.
“For clubs with the capacity to pay players above the salary cap, you encourage them by way of the points system to reinvest that money back into really strong junior programs because players in future years who have come through your junior program attract the least amount of points.”
The TSL will not be subject to the points system. Its salary cap is not likely to increase on its $85,000 level next season.
The funding that went to Prospect Hawks will be used as a “special projects” fund that clubs can apply to access.
Auld said this might include coaching development or infrastructure.

The points system was always going to be part of the changes that all regional footy needs.
The salary cap became a joke. AFL Tas seemed happy to ignore it for some clubs.
It'll work as long as is applied to all footy leagues. Including Interstate leagues. The VFL seem happy to take players & pay SFA. Also if TSL clubs have a fairly even development areas. Maybe even have open areas where its up to clubs to show some interest & help out with junior development.
I still think it should be an 8 team comp to make it as elite as possible for TSL footy. Clearly they havent got the guts to sort that out.

I think the points system in the lower tier leagues is long overdue but why won't they introduce it in to the TSL. The abuse of the salary cap that has been going on for years has now been given the green light to continue. What do others think about this ?

Big fan of the points system which has been introduced this season in Victoria metro and country. Points total set deliberately a little high this season
to allow clubs to fulfil current contracts with players but will gradually lower over time.

One disappointing outcome, although not widespread, is wealthier clubs without strong junior programs recruiting and PAYING under age players to allow them to reduce the players' individual points (as a 'homegrown' junior) when they reach senior level.

Hopefully AFL Tasmania discuss the pros and cons of the Victorian system before they implement and structure the rules.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for that.
A points system will really only work if it applies to all levels of football outside of the AFL.
Currently the VFL is hoovering up as much Tassie Talent as they can get. If their is to be a penalty for recruiting players, it should be across the board.
I can already see some clubs planning to circumvent the points system.

Pros and cons. Like everything I guess.
It was badly needed in the SFL after the debacle of the past few seasons when you had two teams a clear 20-25 goals better than the nearest teams.
I believe that they introduced some form of a points system in the SFL this season and it seems to have evened things out to a large degree, even though Lindisfarne only dropped one game throughout the roster season they haven't been recording 150-250 point wins week in, week out like what was happening the previous three years with Claremont and New Norfolk.
I strongly believe that had that been allowed to continue much longer the whole viability of the SFL would've been thrown into question, as it was, there were rumblings last season and the crowds were staying away in droves.

If anybody interested, there is about 100 photos on the Examiner website. These are from 1988 to 1991 of the old statewide competition. A lot of good memories of players that I had forgotten about. Well worth a look

FYI - 2016 SFL Player Points System (which was year 1 of a phase in and trial, so may be tweaked).
Cap was 35 points per SENIOR TEAM on each matchday. For each year of service the player has his PPV is reduced by 1, (to a minimum of 1). This is in addition to the SALARY CAP.

Points will accrue for each game of the season he plays for during the same year. i.e. 1st game 3 point. 2nd appearance 6 points etc etc. A Senior Community Player must have played more Senior games over Reserve and Colts during either of the last 2 seasons.

Category 1
1 point
Home Player
Player who has only played at that club or has reduced his points by being there for a period of years.

THERE ARE ALSO VARIOUS EXEMPTIONS, and appeals can be made to tribunals to re-value a player if unfair.

EXAMPLE EXEMPTIONS.
i. If a player returns to an SFL club directly from the TSL, after leaving the same SFL club to go directly to the TSL, then he should be classed as a Home Player = 1 point.
ii. If a player returns to an SFL club directly from the TSL, after leaving an ‘aligned junior club’ or acknowledged ‘junior feeder club’ of the same SFL club to go directly to the TSL, then he should be classed as a Home Player = 1 point.
iii. If a player returns directly to his original ‘home’ SFL club, after leaving a club that he directly moved to, then he should be classed as a Home Player = 1 point. The PPSC will adjudicate on a player returning to his ‘home’ SFL club after a stint interstate, as there may be special circumstances surrounding their playing background that may need to be considered.
iv. Players who played at junior level with a particular SFL club (or it’s nominated junior club), but went on to play underage, reserve, or senior level at another SFL club, and then choose to return to the SFL club that is aligned to their junior pathway, may be eligible for an exemption from any points over the ‘home’ player level.

ADDITIONAL POINTS LOADING (PENALTY)
6. Additional player point allocations:

6.1. If a player transfers to a Community Club and will be competing in the same Competition and against their former Community Club, (except Category 2 - Development Community Players) an additional one point penalty will apply.

6.2. If a player has transferred to three (3) or more different Community Clubs across the previous 36 months, one additional point will be applied to that player’s Player Points Allocation. For the avoidance of doubt, player movements under an arrangement e.g. to a State League, TAC Cup, under local interchange agreements, where their home club is classified as a Community Club, will not be penalised under this clause.

6.3. A Community Club may make an application for a re-assessment under clause 7.3 to SFL PPSC in relation to a player’s additional point allocation.

This pic from Devonport sums it up really..

The original state league produced some great high standard footy. The Burnie v Devonport games always drew 5 to 6 thousand people and the large crowds really added to the atmosphere. Those games were highly anticipated on the coast and were always played on a Sunday to maximise the crowds. Sadly the days of big crowds at local footy are gone.

Good old Days could listen to the Game on ABC Radio Graeme 'Dreams'. Wilkinson Paddy Martin could here the roar as The Devonport Blues vs Burnie Hawks clashed some real characters back then. what type of numbers will they get at the SWL GF in a fortnight?

I reckon they will probably get between 5000 and 6000 which is pretty disappointing really considering the standard of TSL footy. I have watched a few of the regional league finals recently and with all due respect the gap in standard is huge

5k-6k? Is that the number of free tickets?
In reality all local sport has suffered over the years because of the domination of Tv sport, shopping, gardening, pokies, facebook, car stealing, shoplifting, drugs & a multitude of other non social activities.
