I don't understand why Mitchell would want to leave Sydney, unless he sees too many good Academy players coming through. Sydney are paying him well enough. He gets to play in a strong team, manages to play consistent finals footy and has a reasonable chance of being in a premiership team. It is his Old Man's club. That sounds like some good reasons to stay.
If he decides to go, Hawthorn would have to come up with the sort of deal that would get O'Meara. I can't see them managing it. They don't have enough good players who want to leave or any draft picks that Sydney would want.

$$

Hawthorn generally don't pay that high. They use their status as contender to keep good players at the club at under market value. To offer Mitchell the type of money you posit would be out of character. However, I guess Hawthorn saw what Geelong did and want to keep relevant as well.

The offer for Mitchell is just very low comparable to the Hawks offer. There was obvious fallouts with the massive buddy/tippett deals that the swans signed. Mummy was one casualty, and it looks like Mitchell can be the next (unless he wants to play for just about above average wage)

390k v 550k is a big difference, whilst not being overs from hawks

Langford 3rd round tops has fallen of a cliff since 2014 gf . Disposal and decision making very questionable .

I don't see any questions about it, it's deplorable. The only reason he can't get a game is for that reason, such a shame as the kid is a bull.

How is Sydney only offering Mitchell $380k per season- an actual reduction on his current deal when he has become a full blown regular in their side?
To be honest, Mitchell should be a little insulted at the offer and you can't begrudge him if he decides to move to Hawthorn.

After Jaeger officially nominated Hawks I just can't see them getting this deal done. Carlton should be licking their lips, get him and Cripps doing the gruntwork for the next decade.

Sydney are too, Carlton have more assets that are attainable.

Mayne is being offered 4 years at $500k - apparently.

On that basis, Mitchell is worth about $2m a season.

If we use the Mayne deal as a basis, I'm worth about $750k a season...

Tigers as bad as they are need Mitchell ahead of Prestia and should offer the 5 year 700 k to him . That would be the smart thing to do :-/ . On durability alone .

maybe they are factoring in that they were paying mitchell 500k a year when he was in the twos to keep him away from gws

Pretty sure the $380k rumour started on BigFooty...

It has been reported in the paper that is all the Swans offered him because they are chock a block in the salary cap.

The Hawks will snare him for 450k a year and the deal was struck months ago.

Tried hunting around for the reference but the only thing I can find is that Greg Denham said it on SEN. The same guy who told us to "take it to the bank" that Gary Rohan would be at Geelong next year...

It's amazing how p'ship success has suddenly given 70% of Hawks supporters a higher IQ giving them the ability to EXACTLY KNOW the ins & outs of their list management.

JOM & Tom Mitchell may very well want to play for Hawthorn next year, but now you have to not only come up with something to give Gold Coast for JOM, but find something to give the Swans for Tom Mitchell. You couldn't find anything for O'Keefe & that went well for you.

We've won a p'ship too in the last few years & that increased my IQ enough to know that the Swans won't deal with your club if the right thing doesn't come back our way! You trade players to improve your own position. You honestly think we will improve your team whilst at the same time weaken ours.

Now how in the heck are you going to find 2 high first round draft picks (let alone 3) to accommodate two players you rate so much that your club is prepared to pay them more than a group of players that are triple p'ship players? Pay cuts my arse!

Watch AFL 360 & have a listen to what Jordan Lewis said about new boys getting more money than loyal servants!

No club is going to lose an A grade player over 70k a year. Minus tax and it's only 40k cash. Smells like BS to me.

And that shouldn't be lost in discussions with Mitchell. It showed great loyalty to a kid who couldnt break into the best 22 and he should show the same loyalty in return and reach a fair compromise, unless $ are not the sole driver.

FWIW I see his value as a late 1st rounder.
