If you're comparing Membrey to anyone on the 'Dogs list, wouldn't it be Tory Dickson? They're the same player. Medium forward's who kick goals in bulk (Not so much dicko this year, but point still stands).

Membrey's a ripper. He was booked as an ineffective, out of date forward and let go by the swans for nothing, and he's shown his value in spades.

Stringer's had a down year, with injury and form playing a large roll in his axing this week, but tearing shreds off him because he outperformed every other forward under 25 in the comp last year then had a bit of a shocker this year isn't fair. He's flipping 21. Get a grip, you crumpets.

With the team carrying two spuds all year in Stringer & Boyd, I'm still reasonably happy about a likely 16-6 finish.

Doesn't say much for the rest of the competition.

Sydney didn't want to lose him, he left for more opportunities (thanks Goodsey, for going one last year!) and possibly more money and they let him go for nothing so that he could start training with us immediately (instead of coming to us in the PSD), as we didn't have a suitable pick that was of any use to Sydney (bearing in mind that they drafted him with a pick in the high 40's and he had only played one game, so hadn't enhanced his value and was out of contract).

As for this thread, Stringer is clearly more talented, has more tricks and explosiveness and match-winningness, but Membrey ought to have a very consistent AFL career and be good for 35+ goals a year with any amount of luck.

He's one of those guys who just plays well consistently, month after month, year after year and it was silly that he slipped so far in his draft. Like Caleb Daniel lasting to a similar pick because he likewise was considered too short by most.

Stringer would seem to be better at most aspects of the game. I think Membrey reads play better and is a better kick. I know what Membrey is - a third "tall".

I don't know what Stringer is and I don't think he knows either. At the moment every time the ball comes forward his head says "do I go for the mark or do I stay down and crumb it" and he ends up doing neither.

Doesn't seem a natural contested mark and is not quite fast enough to be an Eddie Betts. Needs a big KPF next to him to have maximum impact I think.

Would I take him over Membrey? Not at the moment. Membrey is a really, really smart footballer and I think Stringer is the exact opposite. In the right structure Stringer has more upside.

Ummm, I am. After Geelong beat Brisbane today I have my doubts over us catching up the game and 20% that will be needed to get top 4.

Stringer has been poor and deserves the kick up the ass being dropped provides. But he fact is, we are playing Essendon and Freo and unlike other sides we bring a fairly consistent effort and should be ok to beat these sides with or without Stringer.

I think Stringer has great potential...in another year, another Stevie J. in his prime. But Jake continues to try and be too clever, without being able to pull it off. His stats this year do not reflect how poorly he has played. I put him one notch above Tom Boyd, who, so far, has been a non-entity, a dead weight. $6 million and Griffen for a guy fearful of getting hurt? What a disaster! When in the ruck, Tom often acts like a spectator (go sit in the stand!). But maybe he'll come good. Maybe a testosterone shot would motivate him.
