Good outcome.
Common sense. Pay attention Will Schofield and Matthew Pavlich.
It was more Schofield. He was ranting most of the night. Pav was balanced

The defence is he’s contesting a marking contest so he is allowed to push someone in the side or fly for a mark and knee someone in the head. Your focus is the ball, not a duty of care for the opposition.Interesting precedent set. Is the defense Melksham didn't see the players infront because he's basically pushed McGovern into the players

At what point is it classified as a marking contest? The defence is he’s contesting a marking contest so he is allowed to push someone in the side or fly for a mark and knee someone in the head. Your focus is the ball, not a duty of care for the opposition.
Do either of those two things not in a marking contest and concuss someone, you will get weeks.
Where you are realistically competing for the ball to mark it. Both the previous Ginbey & Mansell incidents had those two out of the contest as they were 2-3m out of position and they stopped looking at the ball.At what point is it classified as a marking contest?
Both Mansell and Ginbey were in “marking contests” trying to move their opponent away from the ball as well

He actually doesn't think this act should be worthy of a suspension but just points out that the AFL punishes outcomes over actions 9 times out of 10.
This is the one they didn't.
His point is that if the AFL doesn't like a particular action, then it should be set so players know what actions they can be punished for. Instead, dangerous actions that don't end in concussions are let go and football acts that inadvertently lead to a concussion are punished.

He wasn’t bumped into the marking contest - he was the marking contest. It's alright if you barrel into someone with your body, if Melksham had laid a little pinky on him he was gone.
We all know how this will play out, more players will be bumped into the marking contest.
It doesn’t change anything. Melksham didn’t do anything wrong as he was contesting the mark and actually marked it. It’s unfortunate that the concussion has lingered. So McGovern still not recovered from concussion and has to see the afl concussion specialist(s). Afl said its ok not giving a suspension so if McGovern is forced to retire does he take afl to court over this?
