Jesse Hogan Contract Negotiations (Titus O'Reilly)

This thread sounds like a repeat of so many previous years. And, every year it has amounted to zero, zip, nought, nothing. Personally, I'll just sit and wait. On past trade form I'm expecting diddly squat. Hope I'm wrong but not expecting much.

Might just be a rumour, but I heard that the Eagles and Fremantle will be taking join custody of Jesse Hogan. Alternating weekends, he gets to stay in WA every week. Freo will be getting him for both derbies at this stage, but the Eagles are fighting that in the courts.

Who's taking him to Disneyland first?

You're probably correct but I think even if Lobb plays out his contract, GWS won't ever come to the party and play fairly. The well has been well and truly poisoned between GWS and Freo and I reckon you can point fairly and squarely at that moron Sheedy for a lot of that. That clown has p*****d all over his own legacy. Grubby hasn't covered himself with glory either, especially after making such a song and dance over McCarthy then buggering off himself for 'family reasons' five minutes later. Hypocritical d***wad of the highest order.

Four years out of the game would be justice

I doubt they (GWS) would threaten go to the ND if we were offering fair value for Lobb next year!

I actually think they would but I would hope we don't reach that stage.

A lot of that would be predicated by Lobb's attitude about staying or leaving and whether the relationship between the clubs improves following the departures of grubby and sheedy but I'm not that confident that GWS would behave all that rationally. They do exhibit a massive sense of self entitlement that has been spoonfed by the AFL. Maybe thats just their supporters though. They both seem to be massive flogs

GWS did hold the whip hand last year it must be said.

True and they still do as far as contracts are concerned but I would question how professional they've been in their outlook considering the other trades they were comfortable completing last year and their conduct in the media. They ran an active yet dishonest campaign and effectively denigrated one of their players and showed a lack of respect towards a fellow member of the competition.

There is is a difference in being firm in your stance and being a d*** and GWS well and truly crossed that line. I'm guessing they hold the view that things won't come back to bite them because they are a protected species at AFL House.

I believe Wayne Campbell is in charge of list management now. I think gubby was the problem for freo

Tend to agree on grubby. He was an A grade pillock. Campbell is an unknown quantity at this point, so I'll keep an eye out in the hope that he will at least be professional in his conduct.

I actually have no problem with teams refusing to trade a required player. It's certainly within their right to make that decision and is often the correct approach for the benefit of their respective clubs. That should always be their default position.

Disregarding completely an employees health position isn't however an acceptable position to take and GWS did exactly that with McCarthy. They were less than honest when they claimed repeatedly he had signed a contract extension only months before knowing that it was signed over 18 months previously and Grubby was almost mocking McCarthy's desire to return to be with his family. That was poor and unprofessional in my view. Had his health issues been worse then GWS might well have faced OH & S penalties and that is not in the best interest of the club or its employees.

You also need to consider the morale effects on other employees / players.

While it may have provided some of the knob jockeys on Bigfooty some entertainment value attacking McCarthy / Freo, it certainly must have put considerable pressure on McCarthy and his family at a time when additional pressure was the last thing anybody should have applying. It could have been handled so much better.

Had the club come out and stated simply that he was a required player, wouldn't be traded and the club fully understood and supported him in his efforts, it could have been so much easier for all but instead it was turned into a d*** measuring circus and cheap entertainment for a conga line of morons (thanks, Mark for that one)

IMO Hogan & Lobb will both see out their current contracts out. They both saw how gnarly GWS was to CM.Being out of contract will ensure the demons & Giants play fairly if both want to return home to WA in 2018.

We aren't stupid. I still believe we will do everything in our power to resolve this by trade week, and if he wants out he will be traded. We aren't GWS, we can't just let an asset like Hogan waste away for a year then get a significantly worse deal.

The fact that 'grubby Allan' is being investigated regarding the Whitfield drug saga, says to me he's a piece of work.

Will the deal worsen by that much? Only if he specifially picks Freo, as we will have no pick 3 next year.. It would also open the door for West Coast to trump us.

Is that about the length of the off-season?

It wouldn't surprise me if that's when its handed down. Society is pretty messed up.

I'm a school teacher and guess what the policy is for kids skipping school? To suspend them! Logic seems to go out the window.

Want to hand down a punishment to Whitfield make it 12 games of AFL football.
Want to punish kids for skipping school? Force them in, then fine their parents.

Sadly we have many things backwards.

Why? I skipped school as a kid and my parents had no idea nor are they to blame. Make the kid go to school and do extra work I completely agree with, even make him clean the yards and do a detention after school to top it off.

There's a difference between doing a Ferris Bueller and kids who simply don't attend school. So I'm talking about kids whose parents facilitate their staying at home, kids whose attendance drop below a certain percentage, kids who when parents are notified continue to not attend school.

So if you didn't attend school at an average of 80% over an extended time, had a school that didn't contact your parents to see what was going on and you got away with it? Then you went to a school that simply didn't follow normal practice

You possibly went to a private school where skipping a day here or there is reasonably normal and kids feel hardcore. I'm talking rock bottom socioeconomic school where attendance drops below 60% and parents excuses range from they need help with the new baby and so Johnny stays at home or they're helping with the family business, which is bagging weed and no I'm not even kidding.

Unfortunately, I look at both McGovern boys and they would fit Freo jumpers as well :(

At least with Mitch, we got Connor (and, for the avoidance of doubt, #notLamb) at the pick we'd have otherwise taken him with. With Jeremy we chose, in our infinite wisdom, the great Gavin Roberts instead.

Wait. Who...?

Haven't bothered to trawl through 65 pages - caught up with my ketchup sauce last night and said we are going incredibly hard for Hogan; offered pick 3 and our first round pick for next year. Melbourne are considering this hard - WCE are no where in the vicinity to make offers like that.

He also said all other players are secondary to Hogan; and that interest for Brad Hill is not massive at this stage and will be left to the last minute.

The Hogan stuff was my mail as well. Fingers crossed.
