Bulldogs showed you don't need a great forward line to win a premiership, just great midfielders.
Well to some extent. But Boyd won the game for them. Lobb looks more flexible than Darling.

I dunno, I think it's a fair trade for Lobb considering he's contracted and we'd be getting a first rounder back as well. Is there a consensus number 1 midfielder that looks like being a superstar in this draft though?

There was a rumour a couple of pages back that he's been talking to Essendon, this scenario is based on that and the Darling to Essendon rumour.

I'm going to cop it for this, but this is now my off-season master plan. In light of the rumours of Darling, Emac and Essendon, does a trade of Darling & McKenzie to Essendon shake loose pick 1? And if not what else would need to added to it? Assuming this trade gets done we now have a heap of cap space to play with, throw a decent offer at Lobb and Mitchell.
So -
Darling & Emac (&?) to Essendon for pick 1.
Pick 1 to GWS for Lobb & pick 16.
Pick 12 to Sydney for Mitchell.
Re-sign Brown as the backup defender.
Don't sign Petrie or trade for Ballantyne.
Go to the draft with pick 16 and all our remaining picks.
He wouldn't be worth a top 10 pick by himself though, we're getting back pick 16 as well. Could always see if we could get one of GWS's second rounders thrown in too.He hasn't done enough to be a top 10 pick.
I'd go for pick 12 for him and emac if we have him. Dont know if gws need emac though.
Not sure about the midfielders, others are better placed to know than me.
Just trying to address our weakness.
Because re likes chaos
wellingham needs a decent midfield around him to be of any use. Always been more of a complimentary mid. Even at his best he was avereging less than 20 disposals for the pies.
Yeh, would probably take a bit of re-jigging to get everyone to say yes, but I agree it would be a great off-season.Been thinking something very similar. Reckon this type of scenario is the only way we let go of JD. Only difference is I reckon EMac ends up at GWS and the picks get moved around abit. Reckon Essendon only let go of 1 with another first rounder coming back in somewhere.
If we could effectively turn JD and Emac into say Lobb and Mitchell, and stay in the first round, I reckon off season would be a massive success.
Bit odd that he's supposedly been talking to them, then again it's probably just a facebook (or Hackdorn) rumour.I know but-
-Hooker
-Hurley
-Hartley
-Brown
Probably some other twat with an H I'm forgetting too.
Bombers don't need eMac
agree with yeo. he was given a clear crack at it early on in the year but after not having much impact and showing everyone he has no tank he was moved. Will be a big preseason for yeo. He needs to build his tank while not trying to maintain as much muscle he has atm and he also need to learn to Play in the middle. wellingham should remain in the back line but i wouldn't him being thrown in a cbd time to time. That's what we need to help Shuey. If we actually played Yeo and Wellers there maybe we wouldn't need to go for a premium mid this trade period?
It would be a success; it would be a miracle the likes of Jesus would struggle to pull off. No way we can turn Darling and EMac into Lobb and Mitchell without throwing in a first rounder of our own.Been thinking something very similar. Reckon Yeo could bulk up a bitagree with yeo. he was given a clear crack at it early on in the year but after not having much impact and showing everyone he has no tank he was moved. The original scenario we were discussing had us trading pick 12 for Mitchell. It would be a success; it would be a miracle the likes of Jesus would struggle to pull off. No way we can turn Darling and EMac into Lobb and Mitchell without throwing in a first rounder of our own.
i agree with redden but yeo has been in the system for long enough and his tank is no where near what it should be. Build up his tank this year and the look yo add muscle next year. His tank should improve naturally with another preseason. Him and Redden should both bulk up a bit to provide some bigger bodies in the middle.
Do you really rate Taranto as good as Petracca? My "poor man" doesn't mean bad, just not as good - forward making conversion to inside mid well being the comparison. Top 6 is a big call, McLuggage, McGrath, Bowes, Brodie, SPS all seem locks, with Setterfield, Marshall, Ainsworth and even Perryman and Scrimshaw all options after that. There's always a bolter though.
I don't really rate all star games too much, the defensive side is always lacking. I'll check out the footage though, thx.

If the rumors are true Mitchell is either going to the Hawks or will stay put. If we can't get him then we go straight to the draft with our picks. Gollum and Putrid can **** off.
They'll have to offload some players plus use future picks. Bruest has been mentioned as one that may be tradedHow would Hawthorn be able to secure both O'Meara and Mitchell?
For the last time, 1 mill was what was required to get him to move. Not his at-the-time ability. But to move. They had to fend off Carlton and making an offer Carlton can't match is a way to tell Carlton to F off. It was also spent as political capital to keep everyone calm because griffin was traded.
Second is that teams need to pay something like 90% of salary cap. U can't just save money and forget about it. U have to pay it. Who it goes to different matter but it cost Bulldogs zilch in extra money. So unless they lost a player as a result of no cap, money paid really has zero bearing on anything.
No one complains when good players get paid peanuts and take pay cuts to save cap. No outrage about fairness then.
Also fairly certain Kennedy would have been paid handsomely to come back to Perth. Way more than what he was producing at time. Maybe it's whole "million" as a number thing.
I thought your original post was that shuey wasn't a hard at it mid?And if you read what this discussion was about it was we have one medium / small mid who has a crack in Shuey and Priddis who is almost done and dusted.
After these two we have nothing much left we can describe as a hard, tough mid who can win their own ball and has some class.
Hence my original post stating that's what we need to draft.
Nelson has promise. Redden didn't deliver this year. Duggan looks like class but is not big. Gaff, Masten and PArtington are also medium / small mids.
We lack an Ollie Wines or a Selwood or a Bontempelli who have a bit of size and height AND have a bit of class.
That's the type of mid we must draft and not just one.
