Also if he was not rated then why renew his contract, they did, so you have to say they rate him rather highly.
And one thing I have noticed in all my years watching and Playing Football, is the team that kicks the most Goals win the game. Jenkins kicks Goals
When you get a tall KPF who backs up in the ruck that has kicked more than 40 goals a year for last 3 years you keep them.
More so when you realise they are only our 3rd maybe 4th key Forward.
Also because you like numbers. This is a guy who has improve on his 2015 stats in 2016 - tackle count by 20+% his Goal Kicking By 20+% his Marks by 10% his Hit Out by 40%, Contested Possessions by 30%, He has improved in all most every stat on 2015 results which were a slight improvement on 2014. Followed by a jump over 2013 stats.
JJ has improved his game every year and is still learning.


So I have to ask what is the problem

I clearly rate Hartlett higher than you. At his best he is a gun. His problem is he is a bit injury prone. The only reason Port want to get rid of him is because they are tight on the salary cap.

Hasn't been injury hit for a few seasons now. His best is A+ but he does tend to skirt around and not put him

Dunno if I can see that. I distinctly remember Deledio laughing at the idea of coming to Crows off when asked about it earlier this year.

He laughed off any suggestion he wouldn't be at Richmond next year, then suddenly he wants to go to Geelong or the Bulldogs. He's chasing a premiership, I think that puts us in contention to convince him to come over.

I imagine they could continue to talk over the weekend, but paperwork can't be filed until Monday.

And 14th in the B&F. Goals are great, but it is important to consider how those goals are created, which I think the club has done when giving a player who kicked 62 goals a position of 14th.

Forwards rarely win the brownlow, game winners do

Jenkins will never win the Brownlow but if 60+ goals a season creates game winners then I'll accept a 14th in a B&F every day of the week

Carlton having a cry over Gibbs when we have helped them out in the past taking players they did not want like Betts and Jacobs.
St kilda swaping a pick 10 with Hawthorne so they can get another gun in their side, They just won 3 flags and didnt make Granny so help em out next year.

Just checked. How about that. He only played 15 games this year, but played 22 games in 2013-15. So this was the first year in the last 4 that he missed a significant number of games (missed 3 games in the 2014 season, played every game in 2013 and 2015).

IMO he wins his goals by being a unit not just on talent, his ruck skills are below average and dropped off in the second half

I don't disagree with you but I think these are factors

Never the less, we had two 60+ goal kickers this season- Jenkins is a required player

No doubt, the guy can play football. But he does come at a price, and its not just the mega bucks he is demanding (800k a year). His off-field behaviour, issues with team mates etc. He also plays very much like a inside contested ball winner (something we have in spades with Sloane, Crouch bros and Thommo).

If the Gibbs deal falls through, I may change my position, but at this stage I'm not really sold.

I would be shocked if he is in Hawthorn colours next season. Seems to be a bit of bad blood between the club and Lewis. Hawks might have just pissed down the drain most of the reputation they have built in the last decade or so.
