Hence the discussion over the previous two pages as to how the top of the draft may go if Essendon do draft McGrath.
If Essendon do take McGrath don't put it past GWS to take McCluggage. I think its quite obvious they have no issue drafting players and then using them as trade bait later for the Vic teams.

It has been rumoured all year that their cap is about to burst and Devon Smith may be looking to head home. If GWS feel like that might happen they may be strongly looking at Ainsworth as his replacement. McCluggage would be an awesome get at pick 3!

It was one of the reasons that Palmer was traded for a packet of chips, also I believe Richmond are still covering Delidios contract and this is why they got a first rounder for him.

If Richmond covers Deledio this year at his scheduled wage ($800k) it means GWS only pays him league average ($350k) for the next two years based off the $1.5m over three years deal reported.

Edit: Just read an article that says Richmond got the "bulk" of his wage off, so it's probably something like GWS paying $500k, $350k, $350k and Richmond paying $300k this year.

Just hope no one does the dick move of bidding on Allison/Watson before pick 22.

Let them .... just increases our pool of options at that pick.

If our deficit is 215 points under your scenario, points carry to next year. If we had pick 1 next year, this carries 3000 points. Pick 2 carries 2517 points, 483 less. As 215 is less than 483 we do not move back, and keep pick 1.
It will effect the round the bid was made in, so if the bid is in the 3rd this year and you don't have the points to cover the excess points will affect next years 3rd round pick.

I am starting to hope McCluggage is available moreso than Ainsworth atm. We already have Zorko, Christensen, Taylor, (Green if he stays) to play that small forward role. What we need are elite midfielders and McCluggage is exactly that. We dont need more small forwards.
From my understanding we want a midfielder at pick 3 and we are keen on Will Brodie if McCluggage can't get through to pick 3. If we wanted Ainsworth then we would of traded down to pick 4 in order to work our way up the draft order.

There has been a lot of discussion about maximising the number of draft picks inside the first 25, so I am interested to find out who everyone thinks we might draft with picks 3, 16, 21, 22. Closest to the pin wins bragging rights! :D

Pick 3 - Will Brodie (midfielder)
Pick 16 - Jy Simpkin (midfielder)
Pick 21 - Jarrod Berry (defender)
Pick 22 - Tim English (ruck)

There are a number of scenarios that run through my head.

All depends on who we pick at 3. Basically best from McGrath, McCluggage, Ainsworth or Brodie.

At 16, I'm dead keen on Oliver Florent if available. Can play inside and outside, and has that "x factor" about him.

If Florent is not there, either Simpkin or Witherden.

At 21 & 22. It's either Cedric Cox and Dylan Clarke if we haven't already picked up a HBF. Or SPP and Dylan Clarke if we pick Witherden at 16.

A HBF is a must, so to a inside contested mid. Both will be available around 16 & 21/22. Other than that a classy mid and/or HFF who plays both ways.

Ainsworth is a midfielder and has the potential to become an elite one. Will probably spend the first couple of years playing primarily as a forward with stints in the midfield similar to Zorko's first couple of years but he will eventually become a full time midfielder who rests forward imo.

I also think we've seen that Taylor is a pretty lousy small forward and Bundy gets most of his frees from drawing high contact. I think they're both better suited up the field.

bundy looked solid as a small defender and should be something we explore, probs need to get a small forward somehow, keays wont do the job, and pick 3 for a small forward not too sure just because its a need

Is there a limit to how much salary one team can pay another for a traded player?

Long term Ainsworth would be a midfielder but short term we could get him playing in our forwardline

Don't think so. I think there's a limit that only years that the player would've been previously under contract to the original team can be contributed to, but there's no written rules that I've been able to find in the CBA or the AFL's Rules. The Bulldogs contributed $1m towards Griffen's deal though.
