Who's likely to be our best small forward?

So many new players - it is doing my head in.

Loving it.
It's quite amazing really.

When you add them to the guys we didn't see, or only saw briefly, last year it's going to be a monumental task just for the MC to see if they can squeeze many of them in the first.

Not been this excited about a whole bunch of youngsters together at the club since Wayne Johnston and Robert Klomp joined the club in early 1979 to give us Klomp, Johnston, Harmes, Sheldon, Buckley, McConville, Peter Francis, Michael Young and Peter Brown as the new look side Jezza was moulding together. As a little kid hung on every word the magical Jezza would utter on Club Corner every Sunday.

If only the ride to the top of mountain could be so quick now.
Going to have to be patient for this journey but it is just as exciting.

Unless they do change the rookie playing eligibility, LeBois and Gallucci unlikely to see action anytime soon. Surely Sheehan or Silvagni will
be our nominated rookie under existing guidelines.

We will have a LTI between now and the start of the year, that is almost a certainty.

I am quite excited with our forward setup this year. We all know about our 2015 influx of tall forwards, which I expect will all take a big leap in output . Charlie, McKay and SOS could easily show massive improvement.
But to go with these talls , I see some excitement amongst our smalls and their ability to exert forward pressure and hopefully lock the ball in our F50 for much longer this year. I see three new players that could excel in this SPS, Pickett and LeBois. All super quick , agile and hopefully can become great tacklers

1 Pickett http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...r/news-story/5fced45ce8c9e42c66e188ea6b124911

“Jarrod Pickett up the other end is a very small livewire, knows how to find the goals and his tackling pretty is outstanding and speed is very elite."

2 SPS http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...t/news-story/21c21660ffd3134d7a27896b5494332e

"Sam Petrevski-Seton has speed, polish and, just like Rioli, a tough tackling streak."

3. LeBois- very evasive himself, and fast. He will need to learn the defensive game this year but with his speed and tenacity he could be a real weapon.

Now consider that we already have sumner and wright and we have the makings of a nice defensive but also highly skilled goal kicking unit

Levi broke his leg last year and only missed a game. I expect that Byrne has had long enough out . Needs to learn to endure.
Whoa now; big difference between an ACL tear and a minor depression on the articular surface of part of the knee joint (and let's not forget Levi wasn't able to leap regularly for the rest of the year).

A lack of tape in early pre-season doesn't mean anything with injuries. Tape is for injury management to push through the pain of impingement or slight misalignment, not some magic device that somehow fully reinforces healing ligaments.

Players should be tape free as much as possible at this point in the season precisely so they don't overwork themselves as they build strength, conditioning and rebuild fitness.

Although i think Lebois will develop in to a genuine star small forward what is exciting is that we have so many mids that can go through the forward line and kicks goals. Makes us very hard to match up on. Have big Mckay up forward with Silvagni, Charlie (Maybe Kerr) & Lebois and then names like SPS Murphy Gibbs Cripps Cuningham Palmer Polson Fisher Kerridge Sumner Pickett Wright all rotating between the midfield and forward line. They all have the ability to kick multiple goals. Very dangerous

SPS, JP, KLB can all produce the mercurial and sublime as small forwards, in time as midfielders as wel. SOS had been competent and delivered so much young talent in 2016 trade /draft it's astonishing.
In the next few years the potency of our forward line will prevail.

Options are a luxury we haven't had for a while

Possibly, but I feel that we are only playing catch up with what the other better teams have already worked out. Most if not all players have to be able to play multiple positions, and , given the physical demands of the game now, it is such an advantage if your forwards can also run through the middle, and equally if your mids can kick goals. The greater the number of individual goal kickers per game on average, the more successful the team has been- for the past decade

That would be so good...

But unfortunately, no coach in their right mind would let a player like Betts leave their club...

Although, there is one hope. Maybe the crows will recruit a broken down player who is three or four years past his use by date, and pay him so much that they can't afford to keep Eddie...

I'm dreaming ! No one would do such a thing, would they?
Football operations manager CEO and boards are all there to make sure the coach doesn't do it
