$550k/yr or $600k/yr. The point still remains the same. Yes, the 20% increase is what some posters here believe. I have no idea on this one.

They will be restricted free agents. I am pretty sure, all will cost a first, otherwise the holding club may match it. The player is unlikely to want to risk going to the draft and end up anywhere.

2nd - you have to sacrifice something that you dont want to give up if you want to bring in a $1m+ player. The AFL rules make sure that you have to spend a minimum amount of your TPP, so there wont be much available. If you could keep everybody and bring in a Dusty or Rocky, then how are you going to manage that on game day? You have your centre, ruck and ruck rover taken. Brad would be your 4th mid. Where else are you going to play him for the majority of the game when your first choice 3 players are on? He is the obvious player to make way in my opinion because he has a big wage and he doesnt play multiple positions.

Which 4th string mid does that? I am not saying give up Brad and take that pick to the draft. I am saying IF we can bring in a Dusty, Rocky or Fyfe. If that happens Brad would be the 4th string currently occupied by Douglas/Hampton. Douglas can play multiple positions. Hampton is supposed to be able to play half back. Not convinced he can yet.

So why isnt he doing that for us. We could have used an extra dominant half back in the last 2 weeks. Brad may be a very good player one day, but IF we can attract Martin, Rockliff or Fyfe to our club then I will accept losing Brad to make that possible.
Mate, if the other club dont match, we get the player.for nothing bar Salary cap space and they receive a compensation pick.

If they match, that's when we have to trade (assuming the player still wants out).

Yes. For example, Brisbane currently have no incentive to match an offer for Tom Rockliff, knowing they most likely get pick #2 in return as compensation, which is much more than they'd ever get from us.

He's out of contract - I wouldn't rule it out . He's country NSW

It would take something special like a 6-7 yr contract but I'd be considering it if we thought he was the man to help make us better
Right on here Jeff. He would be a great get for us. Let's get it done

like Betts cost us a 1st...oh wait. In fact I think the only "free agent" trade to net anything is us for Voldemort.

There is a possibility that we could get a restricted free agent for nothing. Obviously, I am in favour of doing that and we should try to do that first. If we can get one of these guys (Rocky, Dusty, Fyfe) to agree to join us (massively unlikely), then we get him to our club in 2 ways. We can do a trade or we can make an offer for him as an RFA. If we go this way, then the holding club has the option of matching that. If they do then we have no way of getting him, other than through the draft - which would cost us what? first pick I would assume. We also risk losing one of the best players going around to another club. I also doubt that a player like this would agree to this much uncertainty of where his next club might be, so he would probably be much more likely to take the matched offer. The absolute hardest part of this whole scenario would be to get one of these players to agree to join us - especially Dusty or Fyfe. So if we did manage to achieve that massively unlikely and rare feat, do you seriously think we should jeopardize that by not giving up a first round pick which we would probably spend on taking that player anyway?

Not how it works as far as I am aware. We can agree a trade first. If not, then we can make the RFA offer and they get the option to match. If they match then the option to trade will have passed.

Ah Ok Brad is and will always will be a 4th string mid, OK if you say so.

And btw there is an ocean between what Fyfe and Martin offer when compared with Rockliff.

If...If...If...If...If....

Why can't you see it's not Martin or Fyfe for Brad Crouch, it's Martin or Fyfe and Brad Crouch.

You seriously think a club that went all out to retain Brad Crouch will in less than 12 months later look at rissoling him?

Yes. We would probably be able to get an idea if Brisbane would match or not in discussions. I think this is very possible and would be brilliant. It wont work with Fyfe or Dusty. I would love Rocky for free.

We would still have a problem of what to do with Brad Crouch as the 4th mid and also how to fit Rocky into the TPP.

If you're thinking of the Geelong situation, they bypassed the offer part of the deal as it was already known we would match. That is why it went almost directly to trade

And Brad is going to be as good as Martin, Fyfe or Rockliff one day... if you say so.

As for the ocean between Fyfe / Martin and Rockliff. Agree 100% and I have been very much in favour of the former two all this time. But looking at what we have dished up the last 2 weeks I think Rockliff is exactly what we need. But I wouldnt say no to any of them.

For what its worth, I havn't given up on Brad Crouch. I dont think he will ever be a Sloane level player or above, but I still hope he will be a very good player one day. But we are going absolutely nowhere with this current midfield anytime soon. While we have Tex, Sloane and Eddie in their prime we should try to get one of these 3 players and if we can then Brad is worth sacrificing to make that happen.

No hope in hell in any of those clubs not matching remember they already pay them a nice packet they have to find less than half of what any other club has to find

Agree - Fyfe and Martin no chance they wont match. There is a definite case for Rockliff though. Depends what they think the compo pick will be. Looks like it would be pretty high, maybe pick 2. I have always preferred Fyfe and then Martin and then Rockliff in that order. But the last 2 weeks has reminded me clearly what our midfield issues are and that order is now pretty much reversed in what I think we probably need.

Fyfe is staying in Freo. He's already let that slip.

Choco Williams says Dusty would have no interest in coming to Fishbowl Adelaide, so that may be a long shot there.

I agree Dusty will go to the highest bidder but it's likely to be Richmond considering they are probably already paying him 600 they don't need to find much more and with the increase in cap they will easily retain him

Nope, other way round. We make the RFA offer, if they match then we have to trade. With Dangerfield, Geelong didn't bother offering because they knew we'd match, instead preferred to simply deal in good faith knowing that we'd probably let Paddy go easier if they came to us early with a deal clearly better than FA compo, even if it wasn't close to Paddy's true value.

Ae we going to have a crack at Burton, out of contract, was a selcted as a late first after ours of course and is looking at challenging for the Rising star this year, what would we offer

He'd tell us to get stuffed if we bothered to approach him after snubbing him in his draft year for an absolutely speculative pick in Doedee.

You dont get, if you dont ask

I would like to have a crack he looks like he will be a 200 plus gamer that could move all over the park going on what we have seen this year he doesnt go below 20 possesions from the backline and they put him on the number 1 forward

I would have no problem them asking the question after all its business, we didnt choose him for what ever reason we chose it wont be the first all last mistake we make when it comes to drafting but it shoudlnt stop us from trying to get him, it will only be us that it costs as he will come at a pice graeter than pick 19

Yes, we should ask.

Yes, this would be the answer.

Unless we're getting him for a 2nd round pick I really don't see the point, we don't need any more defenders
He can play forward just as well. Him or Himmelberg would be good ways to spend what we get for McGovern.

Has he stopped passing to the other team on kickouts yet?

No, what we get for McGovern has to be spent on a top 20 midfielder. We've already spent far too much currency on third tall after defender after third tall the last 7 years, how good Burton could be is completely irrelevant, because we in no way need his type more than we need others.

You really think after what we've seen over the past 3 trade/free agency periods that Adelaide will or can bring in the midfielder that we need?

He'd understand that clubs were wary of him with his knee. Now have had a couple of years to see him withstand the rigours of AFL training and matches. I doubt he'd hold being prudent against the other 17 clubs.

However, he'd have to be enjoying his time at Hawthorn. Playing regular games at a big club who are rebuilding and likely to be investing heavily in him. Would be very enticing to stay.
