Preview Round 9, GWS Giants vs Richmond, Saturday 20th May, 4.35pm, Spotless Stadium

Thing I've noticed about the lower crowds in the last two weeks than expected, have been the drop off in opposition supporters. Crowds are smaller, yes, but the percentage of the crowds in orange and charcoal have been up I reckon.

Gone are the days when you would go along to Spotless as an oppo supporter expecting to watch your team crunch the Giants. Less Collingwood supports than last year last week, and less Richmond supporters this week.

Also, funny thing on the way to the game. We were driving along the M4 (because of track work ) and as we approached the roadworks  there at Church street, we came up along side a car and the kids in the back (4 or 5 of them) started fist pumping us. What's going on we thought. Then we saw the dad driving was wearing a Richmond shirt. Oh, ok, we thought, they're having a go at us for wearing orange. Then we had to pull in behind them as the lane we were in was closed off. But no. All four or five of them started holding up and waving their 2017 Giants members caps, and waving their Giants scarves out the window. Thumbs up all round.

That's why we'll win in the long run. Dad might be a Richmond supporter, but all the kids were all ours and there were more of them.

It's called The Long Game.
Well said.
I never seen anything published but the kast couple of years I noticed a lot of "one offs" around the aisle and I know some were on freebees cos they said so.
I've moved but is the club maybe not giving freebies as much? Their "guest" policy tightened up this year tòo.

Well, that was just amazing and incredible. I must admit, we were not the better team for most of the match, and I thought that we couldn't win it from where we were at three quarter time, just that 1% that says 'don't give in, fight until the end' - and they did! The noise from the GWS stands in the last quarter was so loud, hopefully it helped lift the boys. Just so really proud of their collective effort tonight to keep playing right until the end. Really glad we made the trip from Canberra, just a really great feeling when Jezza's goal went through, and then when the siren sounded. Fantastic!

One thing for me today that really pissed me off.
Coming into the venue I was in a great mood, the bag search guy was a decent dude for a change though buggered if I know why we have a members line and never open it.. BUT, 3 times now inthe last 12 months I've had some dodgy looking guy scan me for weapons going into Manuka or Spotless... WTF, when was the last time someone was stabbed at the bloody footy ffs.

Will be complaining to the club Monday

Its happening everywhere, every person that goes into the MCG and Etihad now, its hands out wide and getting frisked by the hand held wand things. Sign of the times.

Taranto building very nicely. Still rushes/skys a few kicks, but he looks so composed most of the time. That extra 10% will come with more experience.

Looked like he lifted in the last and did some pretty good centre square stuff when the pressure was on, most youngsters would second guess themselves in that situation yet he took it all on.

Must be you. I was joking with the bag search guy about starting fights with Richmond supporters and had no issues. :D

Running on empty at the moment with a 2nd string line up and we have got early wins on the board.
Gave up into the last quarter a bit yesterday as most probably did,but here we are top 2 and many to get fit and re enter senior team.
Shape of the year looks slightly better than 2016.
Whitfield,shiel,kelly,hahahahahahhahhahahhhha dynamite.
W@W running out of backline, just superb come GF day at the "G"

Just a point that there was an NRL game down the road"

Times changed. To those who damn us and do not understand generational change; Lakeside, Arden Street and Brunswick Street are calling you......."

That's a sad indictment on the paranoia pervading our everyday lives, but to be honest it wouldn't be as bad if it was everyone, it's the targeting I get really embarrassed by.

Yeah, bag search guy was great, and then..... ;)

I had the metal detector wand search as well. It's annoying as hell to take out keys wallet etc but in this day and age you never know.

I have no issues with it happening but I just wish it was more consistent because when I joined the back of the line the guy didn't pick anyone else out until he picked me. What about picking one or 2 of the 15 people that were in front of me?

:rolleyes:I walk through without a bag hands in the air every week and just get waived through. Clearly I look less antisocial than in my younger days.
I recall going through Customs at about 6am after free booze on a plane all night in my 20's. The guy said go through no one would be that stupid.

Yes, the problem for GWS is that West Coast will be on their home turf and stung from today's shellacking by Essendon - so looking to breathe fire & stamp their authority on the game. If we play like we did for 3/4 yesterday, or 1/4 of the Pies game, or a lot of the Saints game, it will be more of the same at Domain Stadium. Hopefully Leon can work some magic and have the guys breathing their own fire.

And, yes, Stevie J looked absolutely cooked out there yesterday. Anytime he had to run, he then was hands on knees breathing hard. But, we really don't have any option at the moment other than to play him.

We get an extra day to recover and they have a sunday night travel.
So were a bit in front for a change.
Stevie J is getting games on our short list due to injuries ATM.

What can we do. An 8 day break and probably no Lobb next week. If he isn't right that may be no bad thing. We need him right and the General and Jezza have been taking contested marks around the ground more.
Seems to me we should be a little better as the new guys get to read the others play and capabilities better , and vica versa under match pressure.
I wont be losing it if we get beaten, and for once we aren't favourites. If they play to their best I'll be hapoy this week. 4 points would be wonderful, but I doubt it.

McGovern and barrass are both excellent intercept players. Losing lobb would devastate our i50 attempts. If we do lose lobb then we need another marking threat in the forward line. I would suggest big dawson or maybe even give Sproule a baptism of fire
