I'm sick to death of the "Pav / McGregor moment" rewriting of history. McGregor was a speculative late pick (pick 75) who turned out to be a really handy player. He was verging on AA selection in 2004, and I think it was Jono Brown who described him as his toughest opponent to that point of his career. Pav wasn't drafted that year by any team, not even as a rookie. This was largely because he was a fat 16 year old (he turned 17 about 6 weeks after the draft). Pav was then picked at overall pick 4 the following season after really coming on in 1999.

By your definition, every single club in the AFL had a "(insert late draft pick here) / Pav moment". The only difference between us and most / all of the other clubs is that we got a 150 gamer out of it.

Oh, and 5 picks later in the 1998 draft, at pick 80, we drafted a mature age Brodie Atkinson. Why it's not referred to our "Atkinson / Pav moment" is anyone's guess. Not to mention Darryl Wintle who we then took in the preseason draft, and all the no-name rookies we and every other club in the league took in the rookie draft.

Kenny's name being linked to this whole thing is just plain weird. This even being a thing is weird. Always was, always will be.

He's linked because each club could only take one 16 year old.

The fact Port took some one who never played should be more of an issue.

In all honesty I'm still very salty we didn't take burton and went for doodoo (pun intended). Since the pick of James sellar our drafting has been ridiculously superb. Every draft page that revisits previous drafts has 1-2 crows players in the top 10, which is a feat because we have not had a pick under 10. Really feel we mucked this one right up and could be a pav/McGregor moment all over again

That's an odd position to take. You're basically saying that the you're disappointed with the selectors because you value your opinion on the 2015 draft ahead of theirs even though you think they've been excellent. Doedee was awesome coming off injury interruption last year and has hit the ground running this year off more of the same. I've seen a bit of Burton and no doubt he looks good, but I'm not writing Doedee off reaching similar levels himself. Burton wouldn't be getting a game with us at the moment, so we'd be comparing SANFL output only.

There is very few players that can win a flag almost singlehandedly he is one of them. He would be the missing piece for our flag chances.

While we have almost zero chance of getting him, I just hope we have made a play for him at the very least.

It's a question of whether he wants to be in a team that will go somewhere or not. Someone will pay him squillions, but does he want to win?

We are missing a couple of pieces.. we are missing a dusty/danger type player and a hodge type player....
agree we have no chance in getting him.. he would never leave Melbourne to come to a town like Adelaide.
We should make a play for Rockliff.. it looks like he has made big improvements on his attitude.

TBH Richmond are mad for trying to keep Dusty by paying massive overs for him given their current plight. They are another team that needs a full rebuild.

Full rebuild? They've been within a kick of some of the better sides the last 3 weeks. Before that they were sitting nicely.

They have a good spine.

They need cultural change. A Walsh or Beveridge type to come in and take a no nonsense approach. It's between the ears with Richmond and chronically so.

A better question might be which of those has lived up to the billing?

Other than Riewoldt and Hodge and to a lesser extent, Goddard and Cooney, the last twenty years of number one picks haven't produced the absolute guns people assume number one picks should be... its interesting. And had the Saints chosen Lever over McCartin in 2014, I'm sure most Saints fans would be more comfortable with their pick than they currently are. Lever is certainly in the top handful of players from his draft year.

Anyhow, I hope he re-signs, but if not, let's hope the club gets some decent compensation from any trade.
