Our real target for the scenario you have mentioned was Plowman. Last I recall, he now plays for us.

Sumner, phillips and Lamb were salary dumps here, letting us secure plowman for pick 28.

Get your facts right champ!

Philips was not a salary dump.

We wanted him as a cheap developing option so we could let Warnock go.

Pickett is the wildcard for me next year.
If he can get a full preseason under his belt I think he could be very good for us next year. He's already shown some glimpses this year.
The winning goal for the Bullants was brilliant... shows us exactly what he can do. Hopefully next year he will get a full run at it and really show us what he is capable of and why SOS took him with pick 4 in 2014!

Not normally one to pass things on but if Dusty leaves Richmond Sydney is looking the club to land him.
Richmond will match any offers made. Sydney will give up Ried and another (have heard names but not sure on that) to get it done appealing to Richmond's needs.

Source I have only passes things on if he is confident in his Intel, has been right on a few occasions before.

Will be interesting who will be used for Martin, with Reid signing

I still remind myself of the preseason game this year against freo where Pickett was electric.

If he can replicate that on a regular basis with a bit of fitness under his belt, then we have a genuine superstar on our hands.

We took Phillips and Gorringe because SOS didn't want Cameron Wood as our only backup.

Should have taken Brayden Preuss when we had the chance. Instead Mick wanted Gowers and Foster because he had vague memories of their fathers running around 30 years earlier.

I am looking at the whole picture.

In SOS's trading history with GWS we have taken:

Sumner,
Lamb,
Phillips
Plowman
Pickett
Marchbank
Palmer

Marchbank will be a gun, Plowman maybe serviceable, but he will struggle to get games next year as Macreadie comes on, Pickett the jury is still well and truly out.

The rest are list cloggers - I am astounded that we've given Phillips a two year deal, but it suggests we don't have any ideas about drafting or trading for any additional Ruck cover this year.

Lamb is better than DVR.

We were able to delist DVR and others due to Lamb,Sumner, Kerridge etc coming in the door.

Some of these guys are not world beaters but a effing lot better than what we had.

Plays like he is a salary dump.
Not sure that is true. Looked O.K. last year and was thrown in for one game this year too early coming back from an injury when Kreuze got injured and missed the Port game. Was building nicely in the Northern Blues when they were on a winning streak and was shading Preuss (who everyone faps over) before getting injured. He is not a superstar but a reasonable back up on a back ups salary.

Plays like he is a salary dump.

Have been to a few Northern Blues games and he's been good, presents in contests and around the ground. His problem is he's injury prone.

Game against Essendon last year, showed he can impact at AFL.

Can be pretty easy to dismiss players because they aren't permanent at AFL level, doesn't mean they can't play great football.

Talking footy reporting that Sydney have no interest in Martin. North are the main option apart from the Tiges. Take it with a grain of salt but if Reid and Jones do re-sign hard to see them being in a position to make a move.

Agree. Also shows the value of the two's to develop and ply your craft in a less intense environment

Completely agree, in fact I never thought they were in the race. For me it was staying at the Tigers or GWS. If he goes to North, it clearly is only about the money

We are still a couple of years off knowing if SOS is any good. Personally I don't he was dealt that bad of a hand.
He has so far had the use of 5 picks inside 25 including Pick 1 and 5 from the draft. He also been able to trade out 5 players who have had value inside the top 25. That is a bloody lot of assets he has used.

Wow talk about selling him short.
Way to gloss over all the intricate trading he did to get us those picks.

Nobody thought we'd be able to get pick 8 for Hendo but he did in the end.
He shrewdly traded picks 21 + 22 for pick 11, netting us Charlie Curnow.
Menzel for Kerridge, PLOWMAN, Lamb, Phillips & Sumner...absolute bargain.
Yarran for pick 19 in hindsight was a huge win.

If you want to talk drafting, sure it's technically too early to say 100%, but so far the signs are very positive...even if you want to say Weitering & SPS picked themselves. Curnow is a great pick up and to get as much out of Silvagni, Fisher & Macreadie given where they were drafted is a win so far.

I think you are forgetting just how bad our list was in 2015...one of the oldest lists in the comp with almost zero promising youth coming through. We were putting our faith in the likes of Jaskch, Boekhorst, Buckley, Graham & Watson...that's about it. Think about that for a moment.

You're not looking at the whole picture, at all. The gravamen of your recent posts is that you think SOS didn't get a good deal out of the Tuohy trade. You think we should have got a better deal for a back pocket player.

You disgregard the whole picture - i.e. what SOS was able to do with the Tuohy pick we got.

You say these players are 'list cloggers'. Look at what the club has delisted in the past 2 off seasons:

Cameron Wood
Matthew Dick
Clem Smith
Andrejs Everitt
Dillon Viojo-Rainbow
Jason Tutt
Mark Whiley
Billy Gowers
Matthew Watson
Cameron Giles
Blaine Johnson
Fraser Russell
Robbie Warnock
Nick Holman
Tom Fields
Brad Walsh

And Plowman "maybe servicable"? Give us a spell.

Yep I agree. Those two things ****** us royally. Especially the fact that they showed interest in Bryce but then offered sfa for him.

I still wonder whether it cost us Hrovat...would have been a handy pickup for our midfield. I think it was barass or ericpascoe who suggested the whole Gibbs saga did cost us Hrovat since we were preoccupied with Gibbs and then getting the Marchbank/Pickett deal over the line with GWS who were being campaigners and trying to squeeze us by waiting on the Gibbs deal first.

The game plan will evolve as the list allows it to.

We're ultra-defensive now but it's madness to think that won't change once we've got the tools.

Bolton is creating a learning environment for the players. There's absolutely nothing wrong with teaching the defensive side of the game first - in fact there's no better place to start.

The other factor is defensive game plans like ours where we keep our structure more often is a less taxing game plan...yet we still tire in the last quarter which has cost us numerous games. This is most likely due to the high number of kids we're playing.

Imagine if we were playing a fast, free-flowing attacking brand where the ball pings up and down the ground with few stoppages? Our team would stop to a walk by half time. Unfortunately it's just not possible right now.

Clearly we will play more attacking in the years to come when the kids mature and can sustain it, plus we have a few personnel changes (like the rumours of Saad joining us which will instantly give us more options for counter-attacking quickly off half back).

Didn't finish in the top 10 of our Best & Fairest last year - so i'd rate that as serviceable.

Plowman struggles on the bigger players and certainly struggles on the smaller players and his kicking is dodgy at best.

With Liam Jones, Weitering, Marchbank covering talls and Williamson, Byrne and Macreadie providing run out of backline, Plowman struggles to get a game.

You clearly didn't see Plowman beat Dangerfield "one on one" numerous times on Saturday.

The same Dangerfield that consistently wins those same contests every other week.

You are letting your bias distort your vision!!!

Hard to believe some people are questioning SOS and his recruiting..I know it's early days but FMD!

It beggers belief.

Couple of bad weeks after injuries have destroyed us.. and people are starting to call for Bolts head and questioning SOS.

True, but Rowe did, would you rate him any higher than Plowman

Weitering missed the top 10 after a standout first year, would you rate him as serviceable ?

Given the amount of injuries Plowman had when he was first drafted (missing 2 years of footy), he is now starting to show glimpses of why he was a first round selection

KICK RATING

The difference between a player’s expected hit rate (number of times he hits an intended target) and actual hit rate. A negative kick rating indicates a player is not executing the kicks as well as the competition average and a positive kick rating shows a player is hitting the target more often than the competition average. Note that a kick that goes to a teammate counts as effective even if it doesn’t travel the 15m required for a mark.

TOP FIVE

1. Scott Pendlebury Collingwood +11.3%

2. Jacob Weitering Carlton +9.5%

3. Adam Tomlinson GWS Giants +9.3%

4. Lachie Plowman Carlton +9.3%
