Given that the only other aunt of Jons I can think of is/was Lysa Arryn, id say "slightly" gives the wrong impression.

He should be. You'd think as soon as news got out that all the Freys had been slaughtered either some of the women or Tully allies would go and spring him from there.

He was already free. He was released on the provision he gave riverrun up to Lannister/Frey control. I assume he has been allowed to rule at Riverrun with a demilitarized garrison under Frey control. Now the Frey's are gone. You'd hope he'd beging mobilising control of the riverlands again.

Did Dany know the wagons were laden with food? The could of each had a giant crossbow in them for all she knew.

As for why she didn't roast the length of the Lannister line, probably the same reason she was talked out roasting Kings Landing.

While I think both things happened the way did they cos it either looks cooler on screen or budget reasons, there are logical "in universe" reasons that it panned out that way.

Jamie's swimming lesson aside, the final battle did have a couple of moments that made me go "why the hell did they do that?". These are not "plot holes", just things that don't make a whole lot of sense.

The first was Dany taking out the Lannister soldiers by flying across the line. This created a gap for the Dothraki to pour through, so fair enough. They also set a record by having 20 stunt men lit up for the stunt, which is apparently a world record. Question - why would she not fly along the length of the line, toasting the entire army? From a military perspective, this makes little sense. The answer is probably cost - 20 stunt men was a world record, lighting up 200 stunt men probably would have blown the episode's budget completely.

The second was the decision to toast the supply wagons. We watched her fly repeatedly along the supply column, roasting one wagon after another. Why? She has an army stuck in Casterly Rock, with no food... and here she is destroying a column full of supplies that the Unsullied desperately need. Why? Probably because it looks pretty on the screen, even if it makes very little logical sense. Presumably this battle takes place not far from Kings Landing (given that the gold makes it safely to the city) - it's a long way from Casterly Rock, so who knows if the supplies would have even made it there in time. Could well be a moot point, so I'm not overly annoyed by it. It did make for very pretty pyrotechnics.

Looking to more positive things... I loved the sword battle between Arya and Brienne. Outstanding. I also liked the scene with Bran getting the best of Littlefinger. I figured "chaos ladder" was significant somehow, but it wasn't until I read this thread that I made the connection with Littlefinger's season 3 speech. Kudos to those who picked this up so quickly.

As for the poisoned crossbow bolts... I'm not sure. The idea hadn't even occurred to me. The biggest impediment would be a lack of knowledge regarding Dragon biology, given that they're magical creatures. I certainly wouldn't put it past Qyburn to coat the barbs with a concoction of the deadliest poisons he could come up with, and hope for the best. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out.

Because if she had of attacked in such a prolonged way, she herself would left herself open to many attacks of opportunities. More over, by flanking them so drastically it would have taken the element of surprise off her.

Thats not to say there isnt merit in your notion, but she has all those Dothraki screamers. Why not use them?

Hmmm. I wasnt paying that close attention and i havent given it a second run through yet. Perhaps they were using hay for armour padding due to the Westerosi cotton shortage?

I don't mean to sound like I'm having a go but why are you so certain that this nitpicking problem is just entitled book readers having a whinge?

I can assure you that there are plenty of book readers here just as frustrated by this carry on as you are. I think you're being a bit harsh lumping all the whingers in with the book readers TBH. I also doubt that a lot of them even have read the books anyway.

People aren't relentlessly complaining about stuff because they think Martin would have done it in a more impressive and less convenient way. They're complaining because they're unable to momentarily suspend their disbelief in order to enjoy the show. They're people who can't accept that due to budget and time constraints we're going to have to put up with some short cuts to get where we need to be.

Whereas book readers are very aware of how hard it is to wrap up this story because Martin hasn't even worked out how to make it happen yet. They might complain about a character inconsistency from the book, or how a certain storyline deviates from the book, sure. However being invested in the books doesn't automatically make someone want to derail a thread to talk about ******* cotton padding. You don't suddenly become that pedantic by reading a book.

you make a very valid point, i don't mean to tar everyone with the same brush.. I think it is just that the loudest whinger constantly brings up the source material and how bad the show is since it deviated from it

I very much doubt she thought anything other than 'find these c***s, fly towards them and just burn the f*** out of them. Supply-wise perhaps it doesn't make much sense, but maybe it was just a gross demonstration of power.

I don't know think Arya did, but I could be wrong. The Lannisters know, Ser Davos knows, Melisandre knows. Stannis knew, but he's dead now. I'm not sure if there are any other surviving people who know his true identity.

They may yet come up with something plausible. If he dies... there's no plot hole (as repeatedly noted in previous posts). If the dragon rescues him... there's no plot hole. If he swims to safety, under his own steam.... massive plot hole. A lot depends on how they resolve the situation. Could go either way.

You realise the reason it's hard to swim in clothing is because of the drag it creates in the water, it tires you out. It's actually easy to float in water ridden clothing, because regardless of the the weight of water it absorbs, water in water has neutral boyuncy.

He could have cotton padding that absorbs 1000kg of water, but it still has neutral boyuncy.

The mythical cotton padding does not make him sink, because it absorbs water which contributes nothing to his weight in water. It also contributes nothing to drag, as it's inside the armour.

The only thing dragging him down is the metal, and it's already been shown you can swim with that weight of metal.

Regardless of all that, he will almost certainly be dragged out, not swim out, so can we drop the ****ing drowning, and the ****ing cotton as an issue.

I really used to enjoy this show. Thought it was some of the best television I'd seen.

But now I realise how blissfully unaware and naive I've been… unintelligent even. The writing is lazy! There are massive plot-holes! How could I have been so foolish and mis-led?

So that's it. No more Game of Thrones for me. I will wait patiently for the day that HBO announce their latest smash-hit!
"Ship-building cotton-pickers." (But not in 3D)

I shall look forward to watching hour after hour examining realistic ship building techniques in a 13th Century fantasy world on an island bereft of timber. I am trembling with anticipation at the 13 episode season that will explain the art of packing metal armour with copious amounts of cotton…. only there had better be some black guys doing the picking or else I'm going to get all huffy about the lack of historical research! Talk about quality, entertaining television…. much better than a three minute innocuous scene with that Greyworm eunuch guy. Who wants three minutes of apparent filler when they can show hours of people cutting down trees on another more forested island? And I will stand and applaud as the non-lazy writers who used to be accountants and VicRoads employees collect Emmy after Emmy, despite having no film or television experience whatsoever as well as choosing to make their acceptance speeches dressed up as Gandalf or Dr. Who.

His brother was watching him the whole time, Tyrion still has feelings for his family and his brother, my bet is he rescues both Bronn and Jaime, but doesn't tell his Queen or does he? Tyrion has an agenda and is already offside with Dany, his plans have been less than successful and somehow leaked to the enemy, i think she will seek military aid from her old bed mate Daario...and remember Ser Jorah is on his way to her also. Tyrion is conflicted and he was not a happy man at that battle. Something's not quite right with the little fella? Jaime now knows for certain Tyrion did not kill Joffrey and Cersei really is a monster. Could Jaime actually join Tyrion and bend the knee to Dany? How ironic if the "kingslayer" swaps sides?

JCVD has a very dry wit. I believe you have missed his very clever and quite excellently made point. The trouble with satire on the internet is that sometimes you can misread the posters intention, particularly when they are good at satire.

Of course, emoticons would have made his satirical point more clear. They would have also detracted your attention away from his cleverness.
