Autopsy Rd 21 Young Blues take it right up to Eagles

Just watched the replay, I don't know about anyone else but I thought that was close to our best performance for the year.

The game style was quick and snappy and we looked to attack.
Thought we were easily the better team but just lost it through inefficiency.
Looked better the second time? Ha.
I watched the 3rd qtr again today and yes we dominated via many players.

Brisbane have some talent, no doubt. I think the thing with us is that we have focused on defence both tactically and with our recruiting. We're good at defending and have just enough in the middle to be competitive. We've had some really good wins and a lot of close losses. Very few floggings. The competition is the most even I've ever seen it, may not take a huge amount to turn 5 or 6 wins into 10 or so wins which really elevates us a lot. Plenty of challenges lie ahead though.

Brisbane will do it their way and we will do it ours, no right or wrong, we'll just have to wait and see how this pans out.
I think Fagan is doing a Ratten, giving them licence to run ahead, play exciting footy (commercial/feel good reasons). But it doesn't build a premiership as we know. Bolts is on the right path I'm sure of it.

And just as topical, did you happen to see Jason Day's last hole in the PGA. He considered his brain fade for 10 minutes and in collaboration with his long time coach and still pulled the trigger.
I was watching this & could not believe he was even contemplating such a shot. Chip out onto the fairway & at worst he winds up with a bogey. Instead he goes for the high degree of difficulty & ends up with a quadruple bogey & is out of contention going into the last round.

This decision was right up there with the decision not to pay Plowman's mark, which ultimately cost us a goal.

Haven't watched the game yet, but I am loving the optimism in this thread. Not sure if the mods have been working overtime culling the chicken littles, but there seems to be an unusual level of perspective and long-term/big picture thinking here, which haven't always been apparent after a loss. Loving it.

Don't worry, there's always next week!

Even the chicken littles would have to acknowledge the green shoots from this game. Each one of our younger players displayed some promising signs.

Knowing that we also have Cripps, Marchbank, McKay, Byrne to eventually slot back into the team gives us something to be really excited about.

Kouta, is it you?

This kid is one I'm most excited about. Bottom age and looks liked he belongs. I love how the players give the ball to him to use his left leg.
I also love the fact that he is not afraid to go after more experienced and bigger opponents and fly the flag for the club. And his whole face changes when he goes...

And LeBois, Poulson, and Kerr to come out and play as well... things are really starting to get exciting now!

channeling greg norman. Norman could have been anything if it wasnt for his course management. Plowmans mark - there have been many just as bad decisions on a weekly basis- just non as empirical as that

Pickett is a really interesting case study for me. Your absolutely right that he needs a pre season. He had a very bad foot injury that ruined his final season at GWS and really limited his pre season with us. I think he has to do a lot of running and drop 3 or 4 kilos

When did you last see him?

I reckon he's already dropped 4-5 kilos?

He looks completely different now compared to the start of the year.

The distance covered by Weitering is astonishing. Demonstrates how hard he works.

Always had an amazing endurance base as a junior and will only continue to improve. Want him to work on his power, burst speed. That will help refine him to be an even better player

..........and Ed Curnow and Cuningham and eventually Macreadie.
..........and then Kelly, Hopper and pick #1/2 :)

Which is why I'd be doing something drastic like Hawthorn did last year, only more subtly considering we have higher draft picks.
I dont see it with our list. Who is old and in our best 22 and not performing now who wont be perfoming for another 2-3 years.

Dont count the White's of the world. They're not best 22.

But otherwise our senior players are Rowe, Simpson, Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer, Casboult, E.Curnow, Jones, ASOS, Daisy.

Apart from Simpson and Daisy all of those players have 3-5 years left. There isnt enough to justify a Hawthorn style forced cull. Let Daisy and Simmo play out to their natural end if its one or two more years.

No need for a forced cull of our experience, especially considering Casboult will go and potentially Gibbs too.

Really. U can think of nothing that would justify throwing a beer at someone? Not saying in this case anything happened to cause it.
But im sure if we all put our heads together and get creative we could come up with some "justification"
No.

It's so refreshing to see nice things written about Weitering as opposed to him being called a pea heart and comments like he should never wear the Carlton jumper again. All is right with the world :thumbsu:
Don't be such a sensationalist. Please point out who exactly called him a pea heart and should never wear the jumper again?

His performances have been down on last year, where we were rightfully expecting incremental progression in his second year. Quite frankly comments pointing this out were warranted.

It was good to see him finally buck the trend, and have a meaningful impact on the weekend's game.

I'll find the posts, hold my avocado.
