I like his horror books, but they've generally been cut to shreds to fit in a neat 90-120 minute movie. It's why it's good IT is only the first half the story and why the original IT and The Stand as his books did well, as they were mini-series so you had time for character development, not just scare the audience. Shawshank and Stand by Me as based on short stories didn't suffer the editing leaving half the story out fate.IMO, 'It' is a great book because of its bang-on portrayal of childhood as well as the loss of childhood, the horror elements are really just a clothesline.
