If we had a really healthy state competition I don't think it would matter, you'd pick the best player for each position, like they do with international soccer. Because our state sides have been massively weakened and there's very little competition now, there's not as strong options presenting themselves at that age.

Absolutely, this sort of policy didn't happen in the 90s and early 00s. Unfortunately it's what we've got now with our batsmen (our bowling stocks are very healthy though), and it won't change until we have maybe 4 or 5 solid, consistent, and reasonably young contributors in there.

Upping the standard of the Sheffield Shield would obviously help too, but that's easier said than done.

Renshaw should be dropped. For state and country hasn’t passed 50 in 15 innings.
Looks at these dismissals though. He’s a walking wicket for Anderson or Broad in this form.

Who comes in for him?

I like Bancroft at 6 too

Renshaw should stay, if only to send the message to Khawaja that the leg stump is kinda important - maybe after all these years :drunk:

That's his job - do nothing, just stand there and not get out
Still need runs and it's arguable he'll even stay at the crease long at all. Like Dr Gero said in this crap form he's ripe for the picking for the top line soapdodger bowlers.

It's laughable that people want to select Renshaw for the Ashes when he hasn't scored any runs in ages.
If we're going to back the "high performance model" when a younger player is picked you have to back them in for a while. Yo-yoing young players won't achieve shit.

He has been poor for ages. Being 'young' should not be some golden pass. I like him and he'd be in if he was at least going ok, but his form is rubbish.

Ideally yes.

Considering we seem to be in a generation of cricketers that are spooked by the ball moving a cm to the left or right, staying in and making nothing seems like a great scenario

England have elite international level bowlers, I don't care how he plays in this sort of form good luck staying in for more than a handful of overs.

I'm not some Renshaw 'hater', but I swear that on BF he has some sort of bizarre cult following. He hasn't really done that much.

It didn't help Phil Hughes much.

He'd probably be in the mix to open if he was still around.
