I loved the romanticism of Jack's selection and love the family but I want them to stop putting him front and centre of our youth resurgence now.

Jack's output needs to go up this year for him to be a definite best 22 player. We have depth. He is a third tall/flanker who lacks pace so needs to rely on guile and positioning. I desperately want him to succeed in a big way and I think we probably need to stop pumping up his tyres, let him concentrate on his game and put players who have shown a little more front and centre.

Don't get me wrong. He's a personable young player but I think the saturation will bring as much heat as praise on him.
That photo's from mid-year, isn't it?

Probably irrelevant. He's still one of the first to be interviewed when they return to training. Still a sense he is the go to youngster IMO. I just don't want him treated differently for his own sake now that he is a fully fledged AFL player.

I think he's just a better media performer at present.

Maybe but Charlie and Samo are getting there and Weitering is so levelheaded as well. So many potentials there ... just share it out a bit more.

I've noticed he has become a target on facebook for some as the club keeps using him when his ceiling doesn't look quite as high (so far).

I want him to grow his confidence on field and really break out with less pressure.

While I don't think he's the most natural athlete out there, I think we've gone a bit overboard on how far behind he is. There remains the possibility that he might turn into a contested mid, and if you let him have the football 15+ times a game he's going to do a lot of damage.

Who is we? I don't think he is very far behind at all. I just think he doesn't have the versatility ... yet.

Doc 'instrumental'

http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/2017-12-17/injured-docherty-instrumental

INJURED Carlton leader Sam Docherty will play an "instrumental" role for the club this season as an unofficial coach, teammate Matthew Wright says.
Docherty is likely to miss the entire 2018 season after rupturing his left anterior cruciate ligament in a pre-season training drill last month.

Having returned to Ikon Park soon after undergoing a traditional knee reconstruction, the leadership group member is attending this week's training camp at Maroochydore on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, where he has actively participated in the Blues' match practice and skills sessions as an extra coach.

I think our forward line is at least 2-3 years from being truly potent. But at least most of the pieces are already there.

I usually hate to isolate one player, but Harry Mac really does hold the key to us kicking ass up forward. That and depending on where Charlie ends up playing most of his footy.

Add in a developing midfield and more attacking gameplan and I'm really looking forward to seeing the improvement up forward this year.

Well, he needs to quit skipping leg day then...

Fox Footy’s crystal ball: 18 fearless predictions for the 2018 AFL season said:
EXCITING BLUE IS THE AFL’S NEXT BREAKOUT STAR

HE showed glimpses of his immense potential last season, but Charlie Curnow will well and truly emerge as the game’s best young prospect in 2018.

Curnow finished last season with a bang, consistently impressing with his incredible marking ability and his smarts around goal. But with more midfield time, he’ll take another leap next year.
