All Stars >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Championships.

Nah. I think Luke is an absolute gun, but there is literally 0 defensive pressure in the All Stars compared to champs. I'd be rating championships form as a better indicator of composure and resilience, and probably a better indicator of ability in the less flashy parts, which all in all I'd consider more important than looking sexy with no pressure whatsoever.

Its posts like this that make me long for the next "Rebecca's Journey" epic to appear here or thereabouts.

Heh, I don't think I have another one of those in me.

If that’s the way you want to look at it then school footy > champs. In school footy there’s no zones and tagging is allowed.

I wouldn't be surprised if recruiters think along those lines as well, hence the so called 'bolsters' ala Clayton Oliver who go early after not being picked for champs but tearing up school footy.

Problem is LDU did not perform in the under 18 champs, hwnce why he did not make the all Aust un 18 side

That's incorrect imo. He might not have been consistent and did have quiet patches of games but he was still good overall, and excellent for periods.

Still averaged more possessions comfortably ahead of Dow who did make all aust.

Interestingly 3 of the top 5 didn't make all Aust

You are dead right pardon me. I should have said he was inconsistant He did have some fantastic moments. PS not having a go at him i would never bag any of our players period.

Yeah he had some big fluctuations. 33 touches on the first game. The next game was against VC where he was on fire early with 10 or so touches in the first qrt then he hardly touched it. The next game against WA was the reverse, ended with 22 after a slow start.

On paper he was all aust but reality was he was too inconsistent, though Dow was in a similar boat IMO.

Probably worked in our favour in the end. If he had have got 30 touches each week he would have gone no 1 or 2 for sure.

Most of the kids who play in the champs go to schools with a very strong football team. Schools like haileybury have huge budegets for sports and offer scholarships for talented footballers, for example I think Lloyd is there coach. The best of the school footballers would still play in the champs. Tbh I don’t mind the current situation because the scouts get to see them in both situations.

Dow averaged 12.3 contested touches - LDU 7.8
I think the clearances may have been 5.3 to 3 in Dow's favour.

These may have been the reason Dow was AA over LDU.

Dow was very contested - LDU was very uncontested.

hate to be 'that guy', but we wont know how well LDU will translate to AFL football until he is out there during an AFL game, even then it could take him a few pre-seasons worth of experience to develop into the player the club thinks he will become. They need to make sure that Ziebell and Cunnington are giving him the support he needs in the midfield, if he is too gain confidence in himself. Don't wanna kill his confidence from the beginning. Here's hoping he goes down as North champion.:)

The boy does not lack confidence let me assure you of that. He is not a big head but certainly knows what he is capable of.

Why are people casting little bits of doubt over LDU? He had the ability to drag his side (Dandenong Stingrays) back from 51 points down in an elimination final and win the game of his own boot. He will be a club champion one day

He was a potential number 1 all the way until he landed at North Melbourne. Suddenly some ranking systems had pushed him down to pick 9-.

I think there has been a few question marks over his attitude around draft time but who knows

Look at who had the #1 pick. Brisbane considered him a flight risk and rightly so as you could tell he was estatic to reamin in Victoria. The ranking system isn't worth a cent as here is another example: Will Walker. where was he rated? I bet you it wasn't anywhere near number 23. Ranking systems are a bit of a wank if you ask me

That all came from freo, who were trying to play funny buggers with us with Brayshaw, Cerra and LDU.
