There is no way I can be convinced that some posters dislike for Buckley is bigger than their love of Collingwood. End.

As each point is raised and debated away, they come up with something else. SAD.

What is sad is people who support him blindly. How long do you give him? Every year he has taken the club backwards. You talk feelings, the people being critical of Buckley are talking facts. He and Eddie seem to be made of teflon in eye's of some.

no hes not. The opposition let him run amok because they know they will get the ball back more than average. He will never get tagged because he is average. His kicking action has a huge flaw in it. His decision making is terrible. He has no footy smarts. In the JLT game he started off like he always did, by squaring up the ball and turning it over. He might have an average DE but that is a furphy, he hardly ever hits a target to advantage, most of the time the player who receives it has to fumble a bit to control it or run and get the ball cos it misses the target and that time lets the defenders get back in place. I had to laugh when he ran down the field and actioned to a forward to run towards him and then he kicked it over his head and it got turned over. Classic Adams.

Having said that I think we are using him wrong, He should be a deep forward to use his attributes, tackling and hardness. He can kick a goal and he would be good at defensively keeping the ball in the forward line. Might even turn out a little like Toby Greene.

There is a tendency to focus on mistakes, and as you say, deficiencies. I think its tied up with our poor perfomances over the last four years, and our frustration with that. When things are going badly, we look for culprits, and after the coach its the players who make obvious mistakes that we focus on. This then accumulates and builds on itself until by season's end we are a frenzied bunch of critics, flailing about in our disappointment!

Personally, I'd like to see more Adams in the team, even if only for his mongrel. We just dont have enough of it, and seem to be too top heavy in 'nice' blokes.

People see what they want to see and our recent history does nothing to paint their views in a positive light. Swan and Daisy Thomas both had periods where they were arguably the best players in the league and both were pretty hit and miss with their disposal. Adams has had a few turnovers so people think he can't kick. Others see lace out passes onto the chests of team mates and think he's pretty good. As with most players, the truth is somewhere in between.

have you seen him ever have an opponent ? Only when he runs with someone. I am not bagging him. I do not bag players, He can play but he needs to play somewhere where we can minimize his costly mistakes. He would be a huge asset as a deep forward IMO. I know you wont agree most people don't.

We don't need mongrel, we need skill. All this team has is mongrel. Look it might turn around but unless Buckley can craft a functional forward line from what looks like a team without many true forwards, I think he's shot. And the only way you do that is with good ball movement. He was re-employed because he was able to point to certain performance indicators that were on the rise - I reckon its probably stuff like hard ball gets etc. But its the goals that he needs, and (I think) we just don't have the players down there. Our best hope is that somehow Fasolo, Elliot, Wells, Varcoe get and stay fit all season and crumb off some basically functional big guy. The reality is though that these guys just aren't durable, and is that Buckley's luck, or the luck that Buckley made? You just know that by mid-year two of these guys will have broken down and 'almost be ready' every week, someone will be having personal issues plus a few more dui's in midfield. And I love Buckley, he was literally my all time fave player, but he's messed up his list management basically.

MM had one significant advantage when he joined us, he had 'been there and done that' at both Footscray and WC. He knew what was required from himself and the club in order to succeed and win flags. Bucks had no such experience. In retrospect, throwing Nathan into the top job out of a fear he may go elsewhere reeks of panic and a feeling he may be lost to 'Ed's Pies' forever. It also looks like Nathan's loyalty to Collingwood really worked against him and the club. Both of them painted themselves into a corner and what's really regrettable is that it took so long for the club to recognize they made a bad hiring decision and so long for them to try and do something about it. Clearly MM pulling out of the agreed role did not help and our recruiting since 2010/11 has not been very successful. Time will tell if the club has now done enough to fix things....

Just how many developing in and under mids actually draw a hard tag? It's generally only the very elite. Adams isn't at that level yet but if he continues to develop and becomes Mitchell or Pridis good then he'll certainly get an opponent. Hopefully he continues to develop to be as good as them. He's tracking the right way.

There's merit in this theory, in fact you could argue this with other teams throughout the leagues history. Would it be possible Nathan could be the next Tony Shaw for the next coach to come in and have success or looks like? Barring all the other factors there's no reason this is not a possibility.

Mate I wonder if mick had done the right thing by himself, his family, his reputation ,his warrior who carried him and or the bloke who revived his coaching carear if the outcome would have been different if he had have put the club first like tony

Seriously gave him over 10 mill for 1 flag and left the place with heaps of problems mainly of his own creation, trading picks for players prior to expansion and limited draft pools

Between Shaw and MM? Between MM and Nathan? Between the 3? I'd argue that MM had the best FD and panel around him hence the results

This wasn't my question so I'm not going to get into a debate on MM and the club in general

Some would argue that on face value that MM and the playing group had the strongest of bonds, players pleading for him to stay on supports that theory. I'm not convinced either way if MM put himself before the club or vice versa - I can't really answer with any real insight.

I will say this, it seems to me you and some others feel that MM under performed via a myriad of reasons including treason and are angry at him for both. And while you have every right to your perception I have every right to claim myself a fan MM for his coaching - taking into consideration the exceptional FD we had for most of his tenure and the fact I don't care for personalities in coaches - just want results and confidence of success - that's what he gave us.

By the same token I have, as you know a strong belief that Nathan can bring us a flag of course he'll need that FD and panel around him to do it

Malthouse didn’t leave a huge mess in terms of the talent of the list.
The only mess was the circumstances of his departure given Eddie fired him to give Bucks a head coaching job.

You can’t blame Malthouse if Buckley can’t get the best out of the players on the list.
