Few things I noticed:

- Buddy is the undisputed superstar of the competition. He stays fit - look out.
- The commentary after 3 qtr time was disgraceful again. Firstly, right at the start of quarter time darling had a headlock in a 1-on-1 inside 50 on Smith(?) I think it was, and the commentators were cursing the ump for not giving darling the free kick! F OFF it was a free kick to the Swans let alone to eagles.
- A lot of passengers, mostly due to lack of match fitness and it showed in the 3rd quarter. But we dug deep and got the win.
- Speaking of digging deep. The Swans winning if the opposition kicks >= 70 pts doesn't happen often. So good stuff.
- Ball movement is still a concern. It is just down the line and then bomb. Incredibly stupid. But I have given up I suppose we will just have to live with it.
- Hewett was great but his disposal was awful! Heeney magnificent.
- The smaller lineup suited us mostly due to us having more speed and agility around the ground. Made our tackling and hence pressure much more effective.
- All of our players going for the mark when the ball comes into d50 and a50 is dumb. Someone needs to stay on the ground. That's footy IQ.

I thought it was a decent first up hit out and win. Thought we missed Reid & Rohan as marking targets, but it also cleared out space for Buddy which worked extremely well.

We've got some tough fixtures to start the season so getting through with a win and no major injuries is awesome.

Florent's role was to provide some of the outside run that Hanners does. He didn't play badly but the real choices to go out are Hayward for Reid and Florent for Hanners. Papley was fairly quiet last night but still has the game to keep Hayward out whilever we structure as we do. Interesting to see Hayward playing higher than he usually does.
Hayward would be pretty hard done by to get dropped. Florent would be one of the first to go but if those 2 are coming in I'd rather McVeigh be the next one out. Fox is also on thin ice. He was good but if you're looking at making room - especially once Aliir gets back to fitness - he's close to the bottom

Now don't shoot me because I'm a glass half full person, but I don't get why there is so much negativity about last night, I thought it was an awesome performance.
The Eagles played far better than most expected - they were very motivated to get the first up win at their new stadium and when they came hard in the third, at the time I thought we had let it slip away, but we dug deep and did what good teams do.

Our win was the most impressive of the weekend, let's just enjoy and bask in it for a day or two.

Are we a 1 man team??

If Buddy goes down we are stuffed

Parker with a ripper

I'd suggest playing any two other forward targets probably still gets us maybe 4 or 5 of Buddy's 8 goals. He's extremely valuable but the hypothetical alternative to getting his 8 goals isn't getting none of them.

This game in particular he got several from the sort of marks Reid, Rohan or even Towers would have been a chance to take.

Jetta

Our decision making in the 3rd quarter was shocking. Kicked long when a short kick was the better option, kicked short when a long kick was the better option.

We also seemed to have a lot of trouble when WC switched to the other side of the ground, probably due to fatigue, but worrying nonetheless.

Good to see Jetta playing well for Sydney.

He was just woeful I thought. A bit like for any EPL fans when Raheem Sterling plays for Manchester City against Liverpool, he just stinks the place up every time. Same here for Jets - doesn't look a 10th of the player he was at Sydney :(

If we are 3-3 or better after 6 rounds, then I'll be very comfortable we are going to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. Yes there were some worrying signs last night, but I was stoked with how we dug in during the last quarter and found a way to win....

With a few of our best 22 out, it was a good overall performance, and things will only improve from here. If the imperious form of Buddy continues all season, just on that basis alone we won't be far away.

No it's not. Bit of confirmation bias at play there, I think.

We went through the middle a fair bit.

Yes. The Eagles did push us wide. But we always looked inside - even in congestion. I'm hoping we keep claiming the corridor with our dominant mids. That'll be key for us all year.

Interestingly, the Eagles had more success late in the game by giving up the corridor and marking around the wings. Put Kennedy back in their forwardline and it could have been a different story.
